Cat Cloned in US
$50k for this cat. Would you spend that much money just to have one animal? (let's just assume you have this type of money to spend)

Pure idiocy on the part of a buyer trying to recreate his/her dead pet. There's absolutely no guarantee that the cloned cat will act anything like its deceased predecessor. Furthermore, even if the animal did act very much like the once loved pet, it remains a distinctly different and quite unique creature. The owner merely fools himself into a state of imprudent satisfaction wherein he lives under the delusion of having restored a part of a very dead animal.

Even if it was the same animal, think about this: As the artical stated it takes many tries to get a clone right. In otherwords, you may be getting one animal but you're also sentencing dozens of copies of your beloved pet to die gruesome deaths in the process.
Not exactly something I'd want for my pets.

No, you see, we SHOULD have laws in place that prevent people from doing stupid things like that. Just think about it. If we just let people start cloning whatever the hell they want just because they "can", just imagine what problems we'll have. We already have enough problems with overpopulation as it is. People like this need to be stopped.-jay

Who said anything about human cloning? I was talking about overpopulation in general, for all species. Don't you know how many cats there are in the world? 500 Bazillion. Give or take a few bazillion. That's a problem. We don't need rich whores in Texas who lack a brain to start cloning the things. Overpopulation is a REAL problem that will start becoming real messy real soon. The world has a limit on the number of animals that can survive healthily on it. Too many and we start having famine, food shortages, disease, ect.
Plus, after losers start cloning their cats, you know this could eventually lead to allowing people to clone loved ones who died. Which would be beyond stupid.
I'm not talking about human cloning for organs. I don't know what my stance is on that, since I havn't really thought about it. But I know I would be much more willing to allow people to clone organs to let a little boy who needs a heart live rather then cloning another stupid cat.-jay

Jay, something tells me you don't like cats.
Jokes aside, Jay's right. Cats are more commonly put down in pounds than dogs because of their high population. Dogs are easier to find homes for. Cats are just too common. All our dogs came from the pound or other adoption agency, and three of our five cats got dumped in our lap by people who couldn't keep them. Then there was that heartbreak with Fuddy, all because nobody wanted him except us, but when he finally found us he had already contracted a fatal illness.
Much as I love my kitties, when Simba's time comes, I'll mourn, then get another cat. On top of giving another animal a chance for love and care, it'll save my parents $49,990.
Where are these lemmings going? The Super Nintendo Super Shire! Hop in line and follow them there!

Oh, sorry. No, you misunderstood me. My anger in my posts are not directed at cats specifically. I've never had a cat, but I don't hate them or anything. I have nothing against cats at all. My anger was directed at just the action of cloning a dead pet. (A pet of a species that is completely overpopulated). I would say the same thing if the person was cloning a dog. Sorry about the confusion.-jay
