Actually, back in the days of DVD first generation, some company made a disc that could hold 40gb of information. This is just more of the industry attempting to slow the introduction of technology to market, so consumers get the shaft.

</font>[/QUOTE]Errr...no, it isn't. Most conventional Blu-Ray DVDs can still hold about 50GB of information. I assume this amount of space being reduced is actually due to two things: first, paper is cheap, and second, paper can't hold as much information as whatever else DVDs are usually made of.

Though it sounds nice in terms of cost (like DVDs are expensive to produce anyway....) it doesn't sound very practical. I mean, if it's literally made of paper, it would be ridiculously easy to destroy. The oil off of your fingers would be able to ruin the thing, instead of merely making it dirty.

Edit: If I remember, Sony plans to implement Blu-Ray DVD technology in the PS3, so this may be what leads to that.

Well anyway, this is just another reason for deforestation.. I mean, as if there wasn't enough **** made out of trees already. Also, I'd rather have media that doesn't decompose. I thought we finally got past that.

I imagine that the particular quality of mulch needed for this kind of object would only be found in pre-recycled paper in the first place. Not to mention that it's probably treated in a specific way, possibly with high-grade sillicon, that would make it impossible to decompose unless that treatement is breached.

And why is deforestation a bigger concern than over-exploitation of petroleum? You know, the raw material from which plastic is made?

Because oil doesn't make oxygen.

Right. Oil processing just poisons the oxygen we already have.

Of course. Which is why they both blow.

^ Are you talking about oil processing and deforestation, or oil processing and oxygen?

Sorry, I couldn't figure this one out on my own...

By the way, trees also reduce global warming. Oil processing increases it.

Alright, let me make this clear: Trees cannot be treated and processed into paper without oil. It's not a requirement, but that's how it's done. Oil powers the factories that create paper. Oil is required to process many chemicals, some of which might be used to process paper into this usable medium.

Well there is ONE upside to paper discs and being biodegradable. Does anyone actually keep those AOL CDs they always mail out? Exactly. ;)

Monster Rancher, uses Cd-Rom discs to get monsters.
It just so happens that PC-Cd-Rom also can be used to get monsters. Since they have Cd-Rom bit in its name.
AOL Discs happen to be PC-CD-Rom disc too, so guess What......!

No it isn't. He must be sacrificed to the ever-watching Monster Rancher Overlord, Krull.
