FFIV topic thread

#1

Post by ZeldaGirl » Thu Jul 24, 2008 7:37 pm

Just picked it up yesterday, and I'm diggin' it.

-The opening cutscene is GORGEOUS

-Thus far, it's had really good voice acting; Kain is a MANLY MAN, but I like his voice (it's compelling...); Rosa's actress is a bit annoying, but then there are moments when I just think "Wow, way to go Rosa's voice actress; hope is not yet lost for you"; the rest of the cast thus far has been excellent, and I really like Cecil's voice.

-The battle system is okay, but things like auto-battle make it easier to level up

-Augments...still haven't used them, as I read somewhere you need to be careful who you put them on. Still, I haven't really needed them thus far...

Anyone else have this game yet?

Update:

-Kain's voice is still amazing. MANLY MAN!

-Counter Augment = awesome, especially when paired with Cecil.

-I'm in love with Porom and Palom. And Rydia. And Kain.

-Thus far, I actually LIKE all the characters. As in, not one of them genuinely bothers me in any way. And I love Cecil - I usually never really love the protagonist (unless his name is Zidane).

-The mini-games are the greatest things ever. I seriously have spent at least half of my time playing them. AWESOME.

Not sure if I'll buy this, because I have the GBA version already. I may, though.

Spoiler.
It made me laugh. Though, it wasn't actually SPOKEN. It was just text.

It only got a fairly modest review on RPGamer.

RPGamer > Staff Review > Final Fantasy IV DS

That said, I was going to pass on the game anyway, due to my Squeenix boycott.-jay

The one line I'd love to hear a voice acter try and work with, and they just shut it aside. Ah well I'll probly just buy the GBA version then.

What if they made Radical dreamers?

I got it today, and I must say I'm VERY impressed.
Spoiler.
Cecil's voice isn't what I imagined it to be, but it does suit him well.

Kain's voice is what I envisioned Cecil's to be, but it's still very good for him.

Rosa's voice isn't anything special.

I like how there are new items you can pick up.

And I like how you can see what Cecil is thinking.

Spoiler.
The character bubbles are my favorite. By pressing Y, you can control which character is your avatar (so, you can control someone like Rydia and have her walk around rather than Cecil), and each character has their own thought bubble that changes as the story progresses to reflect their thoughts/personalities. I seriously keep stopping every time I get to a new place to go through the roster and see what everyone is thinking. :D

Pft. The boycott isn't over with a port of CT... (And a boring looking port at that.) It's Chrono Break or nothing.

How much if any have the teaked the music in this port?

What if they publicly admitted that Chrono Cross was a mistake?

You do realize that if this Chrono remake, boring looking or not, doesn't sell....well, you'll never see Chrono Break.

I'm serious. Chrono series? Gone.

^^I can't compare it, since this is the first time I've played any version of FFIV, however, I did read that the music borrows influences from the FFIV Celtic Moon soundtrack (which I actually own and ADORE!). Overall, I enjoy the music - not the greatest quality on the DS, but the actual compositions are great. I adore Theme of Love - it's one of my favorite pieces of music, period.

the "mistake" of chrono cross was trying to sell it as sequel to chrono trigger. it wasn't terrible.
