^I concur. I believe my performance a bit less than a 6, but I thank you anyway. I find this to have been one of my most bone-dry bouts of writer's block in ages, but hey, I tried. And Vapor gave me a good run for my money, I must say; a good fighter, that one.

I don't remember, where's Repster's judging criteria? I want to see more specific judging.

And that was a good battle, Gale--a bit short though.

My criteria are purely opinion based. It's all about what I liked more, what I enjoyed reading more. No specific reasons. I'm like Anti-Kargath with his list of precise point allotment.

Or at least get another judgement even if we can't have three? There've been times when there were only two judges in an NLBFT for a round or more, and the thing kept going. Don't see why it should stop now.

I've had people die, funerals to go to- one is tomorrow morning. I'm sorry, but half the time I'm trying to distract myself, and the other half I'm directing anger at people for ridiculous things. *shrugs* Better than giving in to depression again, I can assure you.

I've read the round, but putting together a semi-coherent judgement hasn't been in my list of my priorities. I can give just the numbers again, if that's what you guys want.

I didn't mean to imply any ill-will or make any assumptions of any of the judges' character, I merely thought that the significant lull between posts was indicative of another NLBFT going under (of which there have been numerous). I think it's pretty safe to assume that a few more days and nobody would have paid this tourney any more attention so I posted what was more or less a more verbose "BUMP". I'm sorry for your losses SD, but don't take our words as slants when we just want to know what's up with judgements.

I didn't take any offence, Phen. I'm sorry that my post was pretty sharp sounding- tired and stressed at the time. o_o'

Feeling better today; I suppose that's the "closure" side of things, hey?

Give me a couple more days (currently got a week off work) and I'll get the judgement done. *hugs to all*

My condolences- I wish I'd known, but contact with the forum outside of the battlefield is frequently spotty for me.

Best of luck in recentering yourself.

Selene vs. Phenom

Selene: Your character is interesting purely from the standpoint of, "why bring a person to the battlefield that doesn't want to fight?". That makes me curious. It makes me want to read more. Alas, never did a fight eventuate, and this round you had time enough to acquaint yourself with the opponent to actually beat him up. I can appreciate the idea of using natural resources to do most of the fight, but you just lead each post to a cliffhanger, hoping that Phenom would deliver the battle you're here for.
I think when I was going over the 'running away from the avalanche' scene, I wasn't making a lot of sense of Fallen Star's movement. This may or may not be entirely the fault of how I was reading it, but I thought I'd mention all the same. I was relieved to see your use of "ly" words had dropped significantly, though.

Phenom: Hagen is honest. In a harsh world, you have to survive, you have to count on what you believe in. I'm almost confused why such a warrior would carry a rusted blade, particularly, but that doesn't make much difference. I was really hoping for a good ass-kicking, but nothing came of it. I appreciate the length you (and Selene) went to in writing such vivid and awe-inspiring landscapes, but this is definitely the place to beat someone up. There was ample time for you to dive or punch or throw a snowball, but this is where we're at in the end.

----

In terms of writing, I really enjoyed reading this "battle". If it were meant to be a story, and not on a time limit, I would've been very satisfied. However, that I was looking for a fight and one didn't eventuate in the six posts (between the both of you), I was left wanting. :( Great writing from the both of you, though.

Selene: 7.4/10
Phenom: 7.2/10

----

Galefore vs. Vapor

Galefore: I don't know that I really "got" your character. Unfortunately, some of the writing didn't carry through- as an example that comes to mind immediately, Erasmus' throat was crushed, but there was still breathing/talking. I would've liked to see how creative you could've gotten using a scientific-experiment-gone-right type, but it seems like you didn't find an appropriate opportunity. Try adding more in the way of incidental sensory description. When the spikes first rose from the blood to form a cage around Ven, there wasn't any detail on sounds, or even what the spikes looked like. Good job on twisting the attacks against you to your own advantage.

Vapor: I think, perhaps, you could have given a little more attention to Gale's opening post. You reply something about not screaming for challengers, when all I can see in Gale's post is a silent begging for someone to come. For a minute, I was completely confused which battle you were part of, honestly.
Try reading your posts out loud; you'll find any "problem areas" very quickly when you do. As an example, "Ven didn't think deep thoughts..." It could be rewritten to have a much smoother flow. Just as a suggestion, "Ven's thoughts were not very complex or meaningful".

----

There didn't seem a lot of meat to this fight. My only real advice to the both of you is don't be afraid of attacking repeatedly in a single post. You can throw Hell at your opponent (twice, even), as long as there's a reasonable chance of their survival. ;)

Galefore: 6.0/10
Vapor: 5.7/10

Thanks for the judgment, SD! I'll be sure to take that advice.

I'm also glad that I got a chance to write "Giant Vegetable Fist" here.

Yeah, I made it clear that I was disappointed in my own performance, and that sensory description is a weak-point of mine. Thank you for the advice, and I will do my best to improve.

So, do we await another judge?

In an effort to expediate things, I shall officially concede the match to Selene. She was clearly the better writer on this occasion and deserves to move on to the finals. If some mystery third judge were to score me the required 1.3 points higher than her to move on, it would be nothing short of a screwjob.

Good luck in the final Selene (if they in fact happen), my only regret was going thrice to the well with a one-off character. In an effort to preserve Phenom's legacy I was going to save him for the final, but perhaps it wasn't the best choice after all.

As for battling here, I have some unfinished business with some people. After that's taken care of we'll see if I stick around or fade off indefinately again. Thanks to all who took time to participate in this tourney and good luck to the finalists!

I believe we'll just forgo the third judge until perhaps next round. It seems I was ahead of Vapor, although a new judge may have said otherwise... Even so, the winners were clear from the two judgments. I'll begin the final round tomorrow.

Double post: If anyone wonders why I've yet to post the round despite lofty promises, it is due to a small detail that must be worked out before I am certain whether or not I can participate. If push comes to shove, you'll either have to wait thirty days or just count Selene as the champion.

Well come now, we have to have a final of some form. Let Vapor and I or whoever duke it out for a wildcard bid to face Selene in the final or something. We've come this far to have a dropout create a de facto champion without a little tussle first!

I never said I was dropping out as of yet. It's a mere possibility as of now. I'll be sure to have someone let you know if I've been forced to drop out; as of now, it looks as though I may be in this for the long run.
