It makes sense to me that the slasher would win if s/he survives until the mafia wins. I believe the slasher was included as an obstacle for the town, given that they won the previous round, so Crav would give the slasher an incentive to seek out the mafia.

If that is true, it is also possible that the slasher could have the ability to join the mafia, making it impossible for him/her to kill one of them by accident.

I mean, yes, they'll have help from the mafia, but eventually, the mafia would have the ability to get them, too. So, to me, it seems possible that he would have another option - like CL last game, he/she would have to just through hoops to BECOME a mafia, then they get two kills a night and the slasher will win with them (it makes winning for him/her that much easier).
My hunch is that the Slasher's alternate win condition--should one exist--would be his/her survival. I got this idea from the description of the "Godfather" character under "Double-agent Roles" on the Wiki' link. This allows him to stay truly neutral; he or she would merely consider themselves aligned with the team he/she has the strongest chance of winning with.

I just don't see how the slasher could possibly be the last person standing.

So, as townies, do we have to kill both the slasher AND the mafia before we win? I'm too lazy to go back and re-read that... :p

DOUBLE POST: Ah, TML, thank you, that makes sense.

No matter what way you spin it we have to find the slasher first. Finding him or her will greatly increase our chance of survival.

^I agree. We get a mafioso, well, we're still up against two night kills. Get the slasher, it's only one night kill (provided our hero has good aim :/ ).

This is possible, but I still think the slasher's purpose is to hinder the town specifically.

Also, I express agreement that outing the slasher would be of the greatest benefit. It's one person making kills every night, not a group of people making one kill.

The slasher's role is hard to win with if interpreted very strictly. It's why he wields so much personal power.

I know that we can't win until he's gone.

I know that if the game comes down to the slasher and one Townie, he wins automatically.

I know that if it comes down to the Slasher, assorted Townies, and too many Mafia, the Mafia wins.

I know that if it's one Mafia and the Slasher, it ends in a bloody draw since the two kill each other.

Slasher plays fairly differently depending on the mod running the game.

Long story short we need to ferret him out, but he shouldn't be given priority over Mafia members because

1. He will be harder to find
2. He will be going after Mafia too
3. The Mafia will also be going after him

This game is a lot more exciting now.

I don't believe we know these to be true. If the slasher can join the mafia, and does so, s/he will certainly NOT go after them. Likewise, the mafia could have a valuable ally in the slasher if s/he joins them.

I have to agree with ZG and Daos. Otherwise, we could have up to FOUR kills a day:

1.) Mafia
2.) Slasher
3.) Accidental Lynching of Townie
4.) Hero with bad aim

That's just scary.

Ian, I find it a bit strange how you continue to supepct Gearz, even when it's been said many times that he may have not read it yet. Not FoSing anyone, but still, I find it a little brash.

Whoa, let's not forget that it's just my THEORY. I haven't the faintest idea if that's even close to being true. I was just trying to think of different possibilities.

There are ups and downs. On one hand, he wouldn't want to go after the mafia, because they help him kill townies.

On the other hand, they (mafia) could possibly kill him (slasher). In which case, he would want to get rid of the mafia first.

Which goes back to my previous question: say we eliminate all the mafia. Does that mean we need to kill the slasher before we officially "win?"

Oh, nevermind, Wy addressed that.

Well, that is scary. I agree though that our chances of finding a mafia member is higher then that of finding the slasher but that does not mean we should ignore the slasher. The fact remains that while he lives two of us die a night.

There is nothing that says the Slasher can join the Mafia. He's a third party altogether.

Wy stated his ideas to look like facts. I'm just saying that we can't say that at all, and I know the ideas I've discussed are equally theoretical.

We were just musing and wondering if it were possible for there to be a set of conditions that would possibly allow the slasher to join the mafia. Just musing, that's all.

Also although it's been pointed out that the mafia would also be looking out for the slasher any townie he kills would certainly be in their favor.

True.

Still, that's the situation I consider most likely: we are three factions working against each other. If we're only two, fine, that simplifies things and actually makes it worse for us, but it doesn't make trying specifically to out the slasher any more feasible.

Now where the hell is Chunky?

We've had a lot of talk about Gearz. Let me put a small argument of what we should do provided (1) Gearz doesn't show and (2) we don't suspect anyone else.

Odds are over 50% that he's a Townie. So mathematically speaking, he's a Townie. The LAST thing we want to happen is for a Townie to be killed via a Modkill. I don't know how Crav is handling Modkills specifically, but I would bet not replying at all by the end of the first week might prompt that.

If we suspect no one of being Mafia or Slasher by the end of the IC day... and Gearz does not show, then it is a logical argument to lynch him instead of someone at random.

This doesn't necessarily justify being suspicious of him, of course. But it would certainly be a logical way of cutting our losses.

TML, Crav will almost definitely replace anyone he modkills. That way, roles don't just go away and the flow of the game continues more smoothly. CuccoLady was a replacement in round 1 for someone (forget who) who was modkilled.
