Inferno's Trial By Fire Tournament (sign up)
OOC: sorry, I couldn't wait any longer, the NLBFT was taking too long to finish.
*Inferno, the draconic saiyan king ran an a blinding speed through the streets of the Gunjin city, posting flyars and posters as he ran. Inferno then stopped in his tracksand smirked before teleporting to the main arena of Gunjin city and setting up a teleport point to his home world of Draco, more specificly, the entrance to his palace. Inferno posts the last of his flyars on the wall of the arena. Inferno then spread his wings and took to the sky with a blazing trail behind him. He then wrote a blazing message in the sky.
"To the strongest warriors of Gunjin city, seek out a 'Trial By Fire' flyar and join me at the Gunjin Arena entrance! Inferno."
The King of dragons glided down and landed in front of his teleport point.
Inferno: now to wait for the combatants to arrive.
Rules of Engagement (Tournament rules)
Rule 1: all combatants must post an entrance before accepting to join this tournament.
Rule 2: I will not tolerate cheap, broken, or killing attacks in my tournament if anyone violates this they will be punished sevearly. this means no one hit KOs, no physically damaging your opponents brain (psychic attacks are okay though because they don't physically damage the brain), no attack spamming (I.e. using the same attack over and over while your opponent is pinned against a wall), no decapatations, no blowing up my planet, no intentional damaging of the heart, I'll put more here when I think of more examples but you get the basic idea. the punishment for this will be a 20 point deduction from their final score. if you actually kill your opponent, you will be disquallified and I will personally throw you out of my tourniment.
Rule 3: once you choose a character, you are stuck with that character for the entire tournament so choose wisely.
Rule 4: all judges are to be completely unbias in their decisions and must grade fighters on their abilities as fighters, not writers. also, all judges will grade on a scale of 1-10, so as to make things less confusing when calculating scores. (so that means the highest any fighter can score is 30 points) The reason I have judges is to make this tourniment more official on the final decision of the battle outcomes. also, the judges are there to enforce the rules and punish those who break the rules. and also I'm using a scoring system to punish those who try to cheat by misusing their one heal or try any cheap attacks.
Rule 5: each fighter will be allowed ONE heal per round and this heal may ONLY be used on a life threatening wound (i.e. a rib gets broken and punctures a lung, profuse internal bleeding, etc.). if a fighter uses their heal under questionable circumstances (I.e. used to heal a small flesh wound or try to heal more than once) then the person who used the heal will be deducted 5 points from their final score. it will be up to the judges to determine wether or not the heal was misused or used under questionable circumstances.
Rule 6: I will allow transformations mid-battle, but only if you truely feel that you need to and only once per battle. This means that if you transform in battle there has to be a a good reason for it. before you use a transform ability in battle please PM me with your reason for transforming I'll let you know if you can transform.
hmm... I think that's about it. oh wait I almost forgot, we'll be fighting on Draco, prelims will be fought in different regions, round 2 will be fought in the castles of different kingdoms, semi-finals will be fought on my Island in the sky and the finals will be in the throne room of my palace and I'll be determining battle arenas for you guys along with starting draws so start signing up.

This seems somewhat... odd to me. I mean, isn't their ability as a writer what determines their ability as a fighter, or do you mean they should ignore all non fighting aspects of a battle like flashbacks and choice of wardrobe?all judges ... must grade fighters on their abilities as fighters, not writers
Either way doesn't sound like something I'd like to judge. If it'll inspire people to post more often though I'm all for entering Videospirit into it.
One moment, the entrance to the Gunjin Arena had been empty, for it was not often that combatants gathered outside in wait rather than inside. There was no stirring of air, no audible hum, no visible warping of space or other non magical clue to warn any passers by of this events occurrence.
One moment there was nothing, and the next, a man was standing in front of the Arena holding a flyer, so settled in this spot it appeared he had not moved at all to get there, and indeed this was the case. For what need did one have of movement when they could ever so subtly rewrite the fabric of the universe so their current location is their destination?
The man's age was difficult to determine, for he seemed to posses many conflicting qualities, the oldest being the supernatural aura all beings possess yet few can truly comprehend. Some had encountered beings older than he in their lifetimes, and truth be told he was only a third of the age of the oldest modern elves, but his soul was ancient.
Still, despite this, his face was youthful, and his smile and demeanor were very much like that of a child. He was Blond, bright and sunny blond, not a dirty brownish blond. His eyes, Dark purple, an unusual color, and one that matched the shade of a Crystal slightly bigger than either eye in the center of his forehead.
He turned, looking around the area. His sky blue full-body Scale-mail armour shifting smoothly and naturally as he does so, almost as if it was part of his body. The armour's tail, an odd extension for a suit of armour, rests on the ground naturally. "It looks like I'm the first one here."

OOC: when I said that judges have to judge the combatant's abilities as a fighter I meant just that. I feel that a fighter should be judged on how well they perform in combat, their tactical skill when facing an opponent, their ability to pull off amazing attacks in the face of advercity, and how much they can beat the snot out of their opponents. I don't think a fighter should be judged on how well or how pretty they write as long as they put up a great fight against their opponent.

OOC: Well, There is a very small amount of advantage to a better writer in that respect, since they can better portray exactly how well they perform in combat, their tactical skill when facing an opponent, their ability to pull off amazing attacks in the face of adversity, and how much they can beat the snot out of their opponents.
Makes scoring it a bit of a pain, since that's more of a "He wins he loses" judgment, but works for me.

This is essentially the Tournament of Red Lions with a fresh coat of paint, perhaps a bit different. No matter. May be a fun little diversion, a nice little unofficial side-tournament for those that missed out on the NLBFT or for those who can't get enough tourney action. As for me? Eh, I'm thinking about joining. Not certain, though.

Oh boy.
While this looks like a good idea on the surface, there are some vagaries in the rules (one heal only if it will extend the battle?) and minor issues (if the better fighter wins, which should happen anyways at the end of the fight, why are you bothering with judges? You should be able to tell who's the better fighter by who's in better condition, what's the judging actually for?) it is nice to see something else inclusive actually happening here.
Please understand, I question these rules because I hope that having them defined more will make it more likely for people to participate- as the rules stand now, I know I wouldn't join, largely on the grounds of rule vagueness and seemingly unneccessary presence of judges to determine who beat the other person harder.
Ah.... you know, if you want anyone to actually be able to follow this rule, you're going to need to specify, at least a little bit, what you consider to be cheap or broken. Also, you need to be aware that what one writer may consider to be a nonfatal attack may, by character design, be a killing attack to the other writer's character.Inferno Dragon wrote:Rule 2: I will not tolerate cheap, broken, or killing attacks in my tournament if anyone violates this they will be punished sevearly.
...wait. If the better fighter wins, then why are you having judges (and scoring) at all? Please explain?Inferno Dragon wrote:Rule 4: all judges are to be completely unbias in their decisions and must grade fighters on their abilities as fighters, not writers. also, all judges will grade on a scale of 1-10, so as to make things less confusing when calculating scores. I fear I must mention that limb loss is rarely inherently life-threatening to standard-biology creatures, and if one is using something like a robot or android, may well be downright negligible. How are you going to actually rule on healing (that is to say, not what will the judgements be, but how will you actually go about making the rulings), and what will happen when someone performs one under questionable circumstances?Inferno Dragon wrote:Rule 5: each fighter will be allowed ONE heal per round and this heal may ONLY be used on a life threatening wound (i.e. a rib gets broken and punctures a lung, profuse internal bleeding, limb loss, etc.).
This rule is too vague to be certain of following. Please elaborate.Inferno Dragon wrote:Rule 6: I will allow transformations mid-battle, but only if you truely feel that you need to.

Ahhh, wonderful.
Thank you. Those clarifications are excellent.
I would judge for this, if you are willing to permit it and you get enough contestants to run it.

OoC: Eh, why not. My fighting skills need some good sharpening up.
---
A lone, cloaked figure stood in the alleyway he had commonly hung out before. Something was different, though. A flyer was stuck on the opposite wall of his. It blew around in the wind, and it looked about ready to rip from the wall and into the cloud-covered sky.
...Interesting. He thought as he grabbed the flyer from the brick wall it was attached to, and brought it close to his face. A tournament. I haven't been in one of these in a while. No since...they grew. He was too preoccupied on reading the flyer to notice that the wind had carried away his cloak as well.
The removal of the cloak revealed what he had to hide: two different-sized devil-like wings, each colored with a darkish-brown color. Besides this eyebrow-raising feature, it appeared that the only clothing this figure was wearing were ripped-up blue jeans that looked a bit...loose on the figure.
He put his two arms over his body, in an attempt to warm himself in the dark alley. God damn it, I need to pay more attention. He began to walk to where the flyer had instructed him to go, when he noticed the burning letters in the sky. Oh, crap. My cloak had better not have entered those, or I'm screwed...Great. Another terrible day with X-3 the "Hedgehog"! Or whatever the hell I am... X-3 let out a deep sigh, and kept walking.
