Disgaea 2 is one of my favorite RPGs. I need to get 1, however.

Seriously, Diver Down is awesome. PLAY IT.
Why is it drug addicts and computer afficionados are both called users?

Diver Down is a Van Halen album apparently.

That's what a wiki search goes to, anyway.

Oblivion. I don't care if you have to spend $400 for a 360 or a new graphics card for your PC. Do it. DO IT NOW.
When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
So.....
What happens when Romans feel out of place?

I doubt Jay's got a taste for Western RPGs (in spite of how awesome Oblivion is).

But...but Western-style RPGs are better than Japanese-style RPGs. How could he not?

Look man I don't know how it works! Some people have never played Elder Scrolls or any BioWare RPGs! They just haven't! It's like something inside of them is broken.

BioWare RPGs are abundantly available on the original Xbox.

But they don't have to play Bioware/Elder Scrolls titles; the obvious superiority of nonlinear Western-style RPGs has caused them to spring up on occasion even in the Land of the [strike]Bishounen Prettyboy With Mysterious Past[/strike] Rising Sun. Case in point--GODDAMN METAL GODDAMN SAGA GODDAMN. (I made 'Metal Saga' the meat in a Big Mac-style sandwich with GODDAMN for bread, just in case my suggestion earlier was too subtle.)

Metal Saga you say. Western style you say!

What system is that? Tell me about this game.

Actually, I forgot that I have La Pucelle Tactics, but never finished it.

There must be something about Tactical RPGs that don't agree with me. I didn't really like FFT all that much either.-jay

Do you like an exploration aspect in an RPG, Jay?

Strategy games don't really have that with them, it's mostly "Build your base", "Kill the enemies", "accomplish this goal", or "Zergling rush LOL!"

'Metal Saga' is a crazy-ass RPG released last year for the PS2. You drive around the bleak desert landscape of a post-apocalytic future in mega-customizable tanks, eking out a living by killing bizarro monsters, hunting outlaws for bounty. and salvaging things from old ruins. The game is super nonlinear; there's little pressure to pursue the main quest. Weirdness abounds--it's 'Mad Max' by way of Monty Python, and it's excellent. If you see a copy on the cheap somewhere, I highly recommend snouking it.

(EDIT: Just found the 'Metal Slug' trailer at YouTube. Check it out and tell me this game doesn't look like the cat's pajamas.)

That does, indeed, looks like the cat's pajamas. I will look into this. But! Big but: you need to look into this, Boo, because it is the distilled essence of everything that was good in the nineties. Ball-bustingly difficult, hilarious, a parody of gaming in the nineties, and totally rad. Not an RPG, but I mentioned it earlier in the topic.

That video doesn't really capture the craziness of the game, or the awesomeness, but the fact that one of your super moves is kicking your opponents in the balls says something in and of itself.

[EDIT: If you don't mind being (very mildly) spoiled in a game where the plot doesn't matter, the credits really phrase it all better.]
