Final Fantasy 6, without question. I mean, c'mon. It has Kefka.
Help me out with the best fanfiction ever, Ganondorf Beats Up EVERYONE! You decide who gets beaten!
For the battle-minded and mathematically inclined, there's the Hyrulian War, a revived time-honored tradition!

FF7 was just depressing and it wasn't able to keep my interest long enough to beat the game. Materia was sencond only to drawing in FF8 as the worst idea ever.
FF8 was just plain awful.
FF10 was decent, but you can see FF7 for plot reasons.
FF9's plot was able to keep me captivated to play it through and to attempt a second try. The graphics were decent enough, and they had excellent sidequests that kept you busy while leveling up without driving you insane (see ultimate weapons and powerups, FF10, chocobo sidequests, FF7, etc.) Neither FF10 or FF7 were anywhere near bad, but I just got more fun out of FF9.
