A man shrouded in darkness appears before Saiku. He wears dark blue robes with a large golden eye insignia upon the back. Slung on his back are two katanas, not very ornate. He raises his head as he draws back the hood, locking slate-gray eyes with Saiku. His silver hair falls to his shoulders, caressing his angular face. He has the look of confidence and danger.
"I heard a challenge proclaimed," he says simply in a young-sounding but deep voice. "What's the bet?" Before Saiku has a chance to respond, the man pulls something from inside his robes. "This," he says, "is the Ivory Blade. I'm sure you've heard of it. If I lose, the Ivory Blade is yours. If you lose..."

The man in dark blue simply smiles and gestures with an open hand. Saiku looks with astonishment as the battlefield unfolds before him, blooming from nowhere.
Shrouded in darkness, with minimum light penetration, it is hard to make out the battlefield. But as they approach, he sees the sharp, angular cut of the irregular structures that look as if they were once proud, tall buildings of great architectural beauty - now fallen. Metal, stone, and wood jut sharply all around. Platforms are made from the fallen homes and palaces, but none of them truly stable. There is little that can be used. This is a city that has been pillaged, looted, and ransacked. No structure has been left whole; dead bodies litter the floor. The man in the dark blue feels rather than sees Saiku's revulsion at his choice of combat grounds.
"It was my home," he says simply, indicating the dead. "I never got to fight them here. But I will fight you here. You, warrior, have the right to call me Raewyn. Others call me the Dark Prophet." Suddenly, in one graceful movement, he draws the twin katanas and gives a slight spin, jumping as he twirls onto one of the unstable broken roofs. He stands on one tiptoe, a blade to either side. "Will you fight me?"

OoC: This be my first battle, so I'm not exactly sure how these things go, but I have an idea from other boards I've been to before... but tell me if anything I do is not allowed or is not according to rules.
Raewyn saw the small ninja tack slicing through the air, heading for his sleeve. Purposely missing, he scoffed. He mocks me. As it nicked his sleeve, he suddenly flicked his wrist and caught the star between his thumb and forefinger, then even as Saiku charged toward him, loosed the tack toward his chest, making it the hardest to dodge. Putting his twin katanas hilt to hilt, he brandished them like a staff with blade edges more than two swords. Then Saiku saw: the two blades had been designed as such, so that the two grips could attach to one another, making one long blade with a two-foot hilt in the middle. Raewyn's smile was eerie in the half-light. He twirled the katana-staff around with expert ease, stopping abruptly with the katana-staff intertwined in his right arm, one end of the blade running down his arm past his shoulder and the other end pointing toward Saiku. Grinning again, Raewyn charged forward, fending off all blocks with the staff-like katanas, parrying and waiting for an opening for a strike to the ears, nose, or stomach.

Saiku pointed the blade at his head, and an aura erupted from the blade. With expert ease and a look of near boredom, Raewyn gracefully split the blades, replaced them, then spun around, holding his hands before him, palms out. The aura crashed into an invisible magical wall, slamming against it full force and knocking Raewyn back about eighteen feet, into wall. Winded, he fell to the ground. Saiku leapt to his body quickly, sensing victory.
"Your shield was no match for my magical power," Saiku said. Raewyn groaned, rolling a pathetic two feet from Saiku. He looked up with his chin in the dirt, an anguished look upon his face. Suddenly, he spun, righting himself adroitly, the twin katanas in his hands again. However, he did not join them this time.
"Enough of this childplay," he said in a low voice. "Time to see what you've truly got." He swung the katanas over his head, taking an offensive stance. When he deemed Saiku decently prepared for his attack, he threw one of the katanas up into the air, the dangerous blade twirling in mid-air. Saiku knew better than to look up, however. Raewyn held out a calm hand, from which emanated a bright blast of light which temporarily blinded him. So Saiku could not see the bolt of lightning issue from the Prophet's hand striking him in the chest, nor the man catching the blade after jumping swiftly from wall to wall then joining the katanas and charging him, striking him in the midsection with the blade.

Raewyn looked at the bloody stump of a wrist he had even as he twirled the katana-staff with the other hand alone. Saiku would not be generous, even though he seemed an honorable fighter; just because he was without one hand did not mean the battle would be easier for him. After landing a solid blow on Saiku's midsection, Raewyn jumped back, landing on a platform about five meters off the ground. Saiku assumed a defensive stance. Raewyn had blood running down both arms.
"Time to see what you've really got," he grunted, separating the katanas and juggling them for a second, then throwing them like spears at Saiku, aimed for his heart and his left knee. Then, Raewyn suddenly discarded his robes to reveal a dark blue tunic with a golden eye insignia on the front and the same flowing words on his belt. Raewyn pulled dagger by dagger from his belt, his leg, and his sleeves and threw all nine at Saiku one after the other, aimed for the shoulders, the thighs, the midsection and heart, the throat and head, and then another one for the chest.

OoC: oh, okay... on the other boards I've been on, you're allowed counterstrategies, so I guess I was fighting wrong...
Raewyn cursed under his breath as his opponent attacked relentlessly, forcing his other hand to become weary. Shaking away his perspiration and the anger still filling his eyes, he disengaged, one hand covering the cut on his arm. It came away red, for in the heat of constant battle, it had not had time to heal. It was then that Saiku really saw for the first time what the strange paints and words swirling around Raewyn's arms were. The red, blue, and dark purple paints and silver-golden words seemed to come alive with the blood, pulsing in the dim light. With a yell, Raewyn held his hand forth, and a fireball hurled through the air, aided by wind. Raewyn kept on leaping back and evading Saiku, hurling fireballs and lightning.

Raewyn pulls out a nail file from his tunic and begins filing his nails. When done, he tosses the file in the general direction of Saiku. He hears the light noise of it hitting Saiku on the head, but he seems so absorbed in his essay-writing that he doesn't notice. Grinning, Raewyn pulls out a whole box of nail files and begins tossing them at Saiku.
