This is why we need a salary cap.
And don't give me crap about capitalism *eyes Bolt.* This is baseball, not Economics 101. Besides, capitalism is the same system that allows companies like Microsoft to kick some global ass. Not that I have anything against capitalism, I just think it's moronic to try and apply it to baseball.

The Yankees aren't bought. Bernie, Jeter, Soriano, Posada, Petitte are all homegrown. We got Boone, Garcia, Wells and Mussina all in trades. The only people we "brought" were Clemens, Giambi, and Matsui.

If every other team could afford the payroll of the Yankees, we wouldn't have an issue. Its sad that mid to small market teams who cannot generate the same amount of money that New York does will never be able to build themselves up to be consistantly good like the Yankees have. Why do teams like the As lose all their talent quickly? They can't compete financially. Take the Devil Rays (please): A-rod makes more then their entire team. Come on. That's not competitive. Every other professional sport has some form of salary cap and other restrictions to level the playing field (NFL and NBA have caps, NHL has mercenary-style free agency and caps). MLB has none. Until they do have some sort of limit on how much teams can work with, you'll continue to see teams like the Yankees buy off the talent from other teams, and then watch other teams (like the As, Twins, Cubs, and everyone else) struggle to even stay consistantly over .500 since they consistantly lose their talent because of financial issues.
The yankees represent everything that's wrong with the sport with the exception of Pete Rose not being in Cooperstown.

Uh, yeah your right about Mussina. My bad... But we traded Wells away and then traded back for him. I think.

I'm not denying the fact that the Yankees have homegrown talent, although they probably also make a stupid amount of money (Bernie Williams: $12 million). It's just annoying to see homegrown talent from other teams flock to New York because they oh so desperately need another million added to their payroll...
... though I swear I thought Boone defected from the Reds due to a money issue.

Go right ahead, I just find it kind of odd that I'm arguing with a Yankees fan that's less than a half-hour away from me on a video game message board.
