Wow, they got Yasunori Mitsuda? I'm impressed. Someone should talk them over into remixing the "Dragon God"-battle theme and the "Faraway promise" or whatever the track at the end of CC was...After World Revolution.
Think they'd be able to include a stage that'd make that appropriate?

No, I mean, usually the non-themed levels have their own unique music. I'd expect if they were arranging a Mitsuda song they'd have to include an appropriate level. See what I mean?
Edit: Or character, I guess.
As this is true - and more, you've admitted to such even while working against it - the idea that Mitsuda is better than Uematsu is intellectually and logically bankrupt. And more than that, you and CS are the only ones to throw out the idea of one composer being empirically better than the other over and over - I have said this only once, and that in reference to specific songs of Uematsu's being peerless when compared to any of Mitsuda's, a position much easier to actually defend. As such, your argument, part of a debate initiated by your perspective, is destroyed by the points that you make yourself. Repeating the idea that Matsuda is Uematsu's superior is just compounding the folly.
I can forgive that - I can't forgive wussing out on a friendly internet fight and running away from the conversation. You actually robbed something this stupid of the fun.
I can't believe it, Jay.
You actually managed to lose an internet argument.
And you're still wrong.
Jay's right. Very, very right.
And I named three Mitsuda songs, two of which are the best two songs from any video game. Ever. I can name so many more that are better than Uematsu's stuff, too. -CSM

All right then, CS, welcome to the game! Normally I'd say you get one song per turn but in this case you get two. Now, which two of those are the two best songs in any videogame ever?

All right, my friend, welcome to the Music Fight. You can't actually win the music fight, it just ends up forcing both participants to listen to each other's music.
Here is how it works:
Step 1: You put up songs (step 1 complete)
Step 2: I put up songs in answer to them.
Step 3: I put up a song for you to answer.
Step 4: You put up a song in answer.
Step 5: GOTO 1
This goes on until we are tired of it. Arguing is of course expected.
On to the songs:
World Revolution
Ooo, this is a nice one, definitely one of the best battle themes ever. Gonna be hard to top, and I don't want to do a cop-out by throwing out OWA or Dancing Mad, so a bit of thought was required here. How about...
The Fierce Battle (FF6)
Widely regarded as one of the best boss themes in the Final Fantasy series, this is of course the tune for Ultima Weapon/Atma Weapon. I think it stands well enough on its own, especially given the otherworldly nature of the thing that you're fighting. One of the more memorable boss themes that Uematsu ever came up with, particularly the horns. Not a lot more to say here, except that I'd put this up against anything short of a very select few battle musics in gaming history.
To Far Away Times
Ouch. Pulling out your big guns early. Masterful piece, can't be denied; there's a certain subtlety and softness to it that fits the context perfectly, and it carries a weight I've head in few other game themes. Still, the best game song ever? Hm.... I'm going to have to pick a song that matches it thematically, which more or less limits me to "goodbye" sounding themes. So, with that in mind...
Melodies of Life (FF9)
I strongly suggest listening to the OST version of this song - might be unfair that it's vocalized but those are the cards we're dealt. One of the best closing themes evar. Evaaaaar. You will listen, and you will remember, and you will nod in grudging agreement.
Now, for the song I set before you, for you to match:
You Are Not Alone (FF9)
Songs like this are why I can't take a lot of the stuff Jay says seriously. I can't think of any offhand that make me feel more ready to go kick some evil ass.
The ball is now in your court.
Oh, and don't be afraid to move beyond the Chrono games, even if you haven't played them - you can easily find MIDIs or such of his other soundtracks all over the net.

^I just have to say that at one point, I had an amazing arangement of You are not Alone... then my computer had its mental breakdown, and thus it is no more. Anyway, the original point of me typing this was to say that CSM has his work cut out for him if he is going to find a song that beats You are not Alone... because not many things do. That song FTW.

First off, OWA sucks. I never got into it. And with all those rerecordings of it it sucks even more.
Dancing Mad is excellent, and is a brilliant piece, but there's no way in hell it beats World Revolution.
I do agree that the Fierce Battle is a great song, but I love ALL the boss themes from Chrono Trigger and even the Chrono Cross one more.
Melodies of Life, while better than the other vocal themes, no way in hell beats out To Far Away Times. That's like asking me to compare Nomura and Amano.
You're Not Alone I'll give you, that IS one of my favorites, but WR and TFAT are both better. YNA I often use to criticize the voice acting in FFX, particularly Tidus' voice actor, because when people whine we deserve to be listening to stuff like YNA rather than a whiny voice.
But the song that plays during the sad scenes in CT is still better than YNA. -CSM

Going back on topic, I doubt that there are any Chrono characters. Mitsuda is probably just doing something completely different for SSBB. He's awesome like that.
Haha...Wy counters with Melodies of Life??? Haha... That song sucked so much...
Thanks for the laugh this morning. I needed it.
Oh, by the way, Wy, try not to get too offended that I said that your cute little song sucks. I mean, it's an alright song... I just think it sounds cheesy as hell. Especially with the lyrics.
But it doesn't even compare to To Far Away Times.-jay

I would reply, but I'm not sure you actually threw up a counter to YNA (it has to be a new song), nor did you throw up one for me to counter. Play the game, man!

The point is to get the other person to listen to the music and to strike up discussion about this kind of thing that's more in-depth than "nuh-uh you're wrong, and you can't argue with me because opinions are never wrong".
Jay's rank should just be "cognizant dissonance".

CSM, none of your counters are really valid. You just said the same thing again, and never produced any new ammunition. Personally, I think all of the songs Wy listed are better, and just to make sure I wasn't being prejudiced, I relistened to the MP3s of every song. Seriously, Wyborn was correct, in my humble opinion.
Second, I seriously love how Jay uses a superiority complex to run Wyborn into the ground instead of saying anything that is valid or even supporting his arguments. It gives me quite a laugh...
Still, I agree on one thing: you can never be wrong in your own mind. If they prefer their Mitsuda to Uematsu, they will stick to that and will forever believe themselves correct. Inasmuch, I prefer if people don't randomly assault my choice because I believe he's better.
Still, at least back your opinion up so it doesn't merely seem contradictory and no more.
