Three million, you say.

That including Final Fantasy Chronicles?

Huh.

Don't know where I got that idea from.

All right, I'll try again:

The reason they aren't doing more Chrono games is because, unlike the Final Fantasy series, the Chrono titles so far have been in the same world, which means that they're part of a single cohesive narrative. It's all about Lavos. Lavos is gone, and there's no way to bring about a bigger conflict without creating a game that completely bastardizes the rest of the franchise (even if Cross sucks).

So, yeah, they could make more Chrono games, but it would be strained and stupid in ways only previously seen in spin-offs of Final Fantasy VII.

Is that what you guys want? Chrono Advent Children?

Let it lie, cherish your memories, and don't wish for something that could not turn out well.
How about they take that same amount of time.......

AND MAKE A NEW FREAKING GAME.

Naaaw... Stupid idea, Jay. What am I thinking? Square would never do that. Silly, Jay.-jay
*Points to the GameInformer's preview for The Last Remnant*

That actually looks pretty new to me...Using the Unreal 3 Engine is actually new to square. They just have to not turn it into a clone of Dynasty Warriors.

That's actually a good point. I don't want Square to milk Chrono the way they milked FFVII. But one Chrono game every five years or so and only one in development at a time isn't milking it. -CSM

Yeah, 2 games over 15 years isn't realy milking much.

And just because 99% of sequels suck terribly it is not a reason not to try.

I'm sure a great sequel could be made if they really tried.

If anything, Square needs to redeem itself for CC.-jay

They have Quest now. They're better than they were ten years ago anyway.

IGN: Final Fantasy IV Update

Thought I'd put this up because it is interesting. When I say "interesting" I mean "gleeful" because of the mention of how only one quarter of the game's original scenario made it into the SNES game, and they're putting some of that back in there.

Oh, and we get the same number of enemies on-screen as in the SNES game. Huzzah!

I think you mean the American one? No, I think this one's going to get the Japanese treatment. All the Japanese stuff'll be in there. -CSM

Only one quarter of the game's original scenerio?

Now I actually have to play this now, just to find out what the original scenerio was.

No. The FFIV Advance we already got essentially had the Japanese version of the story. This interview with Famitsu says that three quarters of the original scenario was left out of the Super Famicom version, which means we will be getting parts of the original story that have, up to now, simply not been seen before.

If this is a novelization of FFIV, this doesn't have the story that the DS game will have either.

This doesn't include any information not already available to us, though. There's nothing new here, and nothing that would shed light on what we can expect from the DS version.

Gee, Final Fantasy people are fighting one another like Sonic fans did when the company made Sonic Heroes and flew into the ground.

In short, Final Fantasy and Square are doomed. If they keep up remakes and make nothing original and new, they'll continue to post profits, but lose all artistic power in their games. Much like Sega now. Bleck.

If you think Sonic Team "flew into the ground" with Sonic Heroes you weren't quite keeping up.

And I wouldn't exactly call this in-fighting in the Square fandom; I'm as big a Square critic as anyone, I just try to be realistic and honest.

But about how Square and Final Fantasy are doomed? Melodramatic drivel. Nevermind the fact that true remakes have been done by Square only a few times, and numbers on those will be ramped up only because they sell so well, but the remake work is being handled by another development house in the first place. Square isn't losing any of its workforce towards this, just capital. It's literally an investment that allows them to make money.

Any work Square actually does tends to be on actual new games - and yes, all of Nomura's FFXIII battalion will be new, original games. FFXII? Original game. Revenant Wings? Original, just set in XII's Ivalice. Last Remnant? Original. Dissidia? Original. Kingdom Hearts 3? Also original.

Every major installment in the Final Fantasy franchise except for X-2 has been an original world, much more an original game. The creative force at Square's disposal is the greatest its ever been, after their acquisition of Quest and all of those assets. Nomura, whether you like him or not, is a driving creative force who tends to do his last bit of Final Fantasy work with panache and style. The series is still quality: the company is still quality. This is the same breed of naysayers popping up that have popped up for every Final Fantasy after 7.

Anybody remember that? Yeah? People calling FF8 the death of Square? Or how FF9 was them selling out, and how they'd lost all integrity? Anybody?

This wave of vitriol will pass in time, and we'll all get back to playing the best Japanese RPGs on the market.

For the record...I never said Square is doomed and is going to die... Of course Square is going to keep making games and keep making loads of money. All I'm saying is that Square is dead to me. I don't care if the rest of you keep buying their crappy games (LOL, FF12:RW original), the point is that I'm done with them. I'm not buying any more games. And as a long time Square fan, I just wanted to take the chance to rant and criticize them for what I feel they are doing wrong.-jay

Which is...what? Getting another studio to remake Final Fantasy IV for the DS with huge parts of the original, never-before-seen story re-inserted into the script?

Please.

Edit: Hey Jay, you know that the guy behind DQIX is the same primary creative force behind Chrono Trigger, right?
