Maybe they just wanted the main characters to be different colours.
sonic = blue
knuckles = red
tails = yellow
rose = pink
Bean = Green
Victor = Lime Green
Espio = Burgendy
Big = Purple/White
Cream = Cream
Rogue = white/hot pink
Shadow = Black
Charmy = Light Yellow/Orange
Omega = Scarlet
