ULTRA FREAKIN' HARD BOSS BATTLES. Post YOUR favorite.
This is a topic dedicated to the most annoying of boss fights in RPGs. Its a revival of the topic Erdawn posted a long time ago in the gunjin, which seemed (accurately) out of place. Here we go:
SEPHIROTH IN ANY FORM (Listed here in Kingdom Hearts and KH2 forms)
Well, this is a given. There is an easy way to beat him (Level 75-99 can tear him up in no time.), but he is VERY difficult in hard mode, and at level 67 (Yeah, I'm foolhardy), he ain't a pushover. In both games, I took the hard67 challenge, a little challenge I made myself. It used to be hard50, but why would I take a risk THAT stupid? Feh. At any rate, he is a boss that all of the major 'sources' recommend a 70 plus level for, and yeah, that sure as rain is useful. He takes a high level of reflex, and a concentration on patience and memory (Memorizing his pattern makes it WAY easier to defeat him). Upon learning how to make him attack unwillingly, and learning exactly when he was going to summon almighty satanic evil fire from the heavens, and learning the glidy meteor avoiding technique, Sephiroth became a very weak opponent. But that was in normal mode. I ventured to take him on with the Lionheart or Oblivion keychains, because of their capabilities, and do this all in Hard Mode. I used a number of double combo, double finisher, and dodging techniques, and all of the aerial techniques, in both cases. The Nightmare Before Christmas keychain was my favorite, even though its name escaped me.
ANY way....
He killed me. 35 times in a row. I drank several energy drinks, pepsis, and a few other soft drinks, and laughed, cried, fumed, flipped off the TV, and kicked a leg off of a chair, thus knocking the chair over onto my video games. Goodbye, older copy of Pikmin. I eventually took him down, in KH1.
KH2 was a bit more consuming. He actually taunted me. He angered me. He made me look foolish. 54 times in one night. Cursed Sephiroth...
I had to level up in tiers, going from level 50 to level 55 to level 57 to level 60 to level 67. I had so much of a pea built up at the end of my Sephiroth slaying night that I fell into a mild coma one hour afterwards. Still, it was challenging, and cool. Even if that punk Sephiroth did nothing over his SHAMEFUL defeat other than wipe off his shoulder and tell me to bring Cloud. Ass****...
Good times.

Abyssion in Tales of Symponia, and Zelse in Quest 64. Abyssion is much harder, but Zelse is much more annoying.
I'd say Shilf from Quest 64, but she's actually pretty easy with the right comboes.(Confusion + Magnet Rock + Healing Lvl 1/2 = Ownage)
Edit: I take that back, Nepty in Quest 64 is much more difficult. There's no fire spells that actually deal enough damage or attack enough times to be useful. Zelse just needs enough Magic + Rock 1 to kill. Funny how Nepty is the only Water boss...

This will go by game, not in any particular order...
FFIV: Plague. It took me a long time to figure out how Count worked.
FFV: Shinryuu. Still can't beat him.
FFVI: Storm Dragon. This is duh here. It's so damn tough.
CT: The Golem Twins. They took me forever to beat in Chrono Trigger.
SMRPG: Belome 2. He took me forever to beat.
FFVII: The thing Reno sends at you. Damn it's tough!
FFVIII: Ultima Weapon and Bahamut. Basically anything in that dungeon.
CC: Garai. He IS a hard boss, especially because there's no way around it.
LOD: Faust and the Divine Dragon Spirit tied. At least Faust takes damage from physicals.
FFIX: Ozma, duh. Too many Flare Stars and Meteors.
FFX: That damn Neslug and Sphere-looking thing. Anyone else want to comment on how they should have brought Terra into the fight with Neslug so she could use her TekMissle on it the way she did Whelk?

Ballos in cave story, but only without the spur. With it (assuming you have decent aim), he's pretty much toast.
The super FUZIONZORZ boss at the end of Golden Sun. I tried fighting it a couple of times, then decided that it wasn't worth spending hours leveling up for to get a sequel-intro ending.
The ice queen in Dark Cloud. That's more a problem of being cheap though. "Hey, I freeze you in place with every one of my attacks and your freeze protection items don't work for no adequetely explained reason. Oh, and half the time I can only be attacked by one character, and the other half I can only be effected by a different one. Have fun trying to dodge my homing freezing missiles while I teleport around and hit everything within a 20 foot radius."

Ah, the Ice-queen... I remember the Ice-queen. I hate the ice-queen. Hate her. I spent hours just trying to figure out how to damage her, and that witch just kept on sending her icey-doom at my ass.
And, I would like to make a shout out to "Ansem" from KH1. His second battle, without your party members to back you up, is bitchin' hard. I could CRY from all of the times that ass-**** knocked me into oblivion. Especially with the Riku-style zip-back-and-forth death move.
Then there was the battle with Bonetail. From PM2:TTYD. Why. why all of the freaking defeat. I tried so damned hard. No success... Argh....
FFIX had those stupid elemental guardians in Memoria, and every last one of them was difficult. And they all go down with a 'BANG'. I hated that.

Ah, I forgot some of the Radiata Stories bosses...
Aphelion. Aphelion is a bastard. I spent hours leveling up on the human-campaign, looking for good party members (The guild-leaders, in other words), and learning new commands and strategies SIMPLY to kill Aphelion. I used Elwen, Kain, and Gerald, and then used a "Power Injection + Healing" strategy. I had Kain on "Heal Allies" mode at all times, and Elwen and Gerald taking chunks outta the dragon's HP, whilst I jumped around and performed occasional volties. After losing the fight a few dozen times, I managed a lucky win and celebrated a happy victory.
On the non-human side, I had JJ, Galvados, and Ganz. Since none of those are healers, I stocked up on party-heal items and took over as healer while commanding their every move. Surprisingly, it was easier on the non-human side. Probably because Galvados is simply rawk.
The Ethereal Queen. First off, why does she calmly greet you and then tear your ass up? She has a certain move that, once it catches you off guard, is insta-kill. I hated her for that. In this battle, I used Valkyrie (Lenneth, in other words), Galvados, and Gruel, since that had been my party ever since I beat Valkyrie and kicked JJ to the curb. The battle dragged on for an hour, using classic strategies and continuously having to heal. After I got her down to about 3000 health, I was killed by her little laser-rain technique. I have still yet to beat the Ethereal Queen.
Cairn Russel. Jack's father is ****ing hard. No matter WHAT I DID TO DISTRACT HIM, he always, ALWAYS attacked me. And killed me. I finally beat him after many tries, but it was bittersweet because he ate up all of my healing items.
Valkyrie. Ouch. Lenneth is always a secret boss in these Tri-Ace games, but in this case, the reward was having her as a party-member. I battled several times, each time getting nixed by her volty (Nibelung Valesti), and having to trek all the way back to her lair. Ouch. She was finally defeated by a lucky volty, and then put on my team as permanent assistance.
There are more; the elemental dragons, and then Gabriel Celesta, and even that evil cartoony grand-dragon, were hard, but I beat them much more easily than the above listed.
