Could use some help
Alright, so as some here may know, my PC went ka-blooey. It's either the hard-drive or some bad internal connections, we aren't sure. Whatever the case, I lost anything and am without ressource. My friend lent me a program to help - Ubuntu v.5.04 Live CD. Linux. And I'm having some trouble adjusting.
1) I have no friggin' idea where to connect to the internet. I use dial-up - so after some searching I found System >> Administration >> Networking and managed to set up the propreties for my modem - phone number, user name and password for my Synpatico account (although there isn't anywhere to mark "Sympatico... hmm), and the Modem port, etc. I activate the modem connection - but I don't connect - there's no screeching fingernail transmission or anything. Internet, gAIM, Evolution - nothing's working because I'm not online. And there is nothing in HELP that helps. Am I missing something?
2) How in God's name to you save stuff to Disquette? I'm not going to save a Word doc. on CD (not that I could, running live Ubuntu), but when I "Save As..." there doesn't seem to be a pathway to save on the A Drive.
Now I'm using Linux from Windows, so I'm lost like a retarded cub scout in the woods. If anyone here knows anything about Linux and Ubuntu... please help me. I need Internet. ;_;

Oh gods, this would have the potential to be amusing... No one takes the time to care about DOS anymore... and then they decide to jump to Linux... the sad, sad peoples...Originally posted by e-r-d-a-w-n:
And /dev/? What, do you type that in, or something?
Right-click the desktop and launch a new terminal window (from the menu that comes up, and no, I don't know where in the menu that would be).
Then
cd /dev
