Does lighting things on fire count? :D Well I haven't really done many home experiments before. Actually the best experiment I've ever done was most likely baking soda and vinegar. ;) Although I do remember getting this science kit when I was a kid and doing a couple experiments in that...

Fun thing to do:

1. Put some baking soda in a bottle. Or a glass.
2. Put some vinegar in a balloon (or in an unused condom, if you're using a glass.).
3. Quickly place the ballon/condom over the bottle/glass opening.
4. Watch what happens.
Note: If you have poor-quality drinking glasses, you may want to consider eye protection.

^ HAHAHA! yeah, that's a good one! I love that one...

Try buying a large chunk of elemental sodium and throwing it into a swimming pool full of water... MWAHAHAHAHA!!!

^

Get your hands on some HCl (ehehe... I guess it's not so home), and then dissolve magnesium (may work with other metals?) with it. Do this in like a flask or a jar or some container. After that, get a match. :D

Will need
Spraying Deo
Empty Bottle (Coke Bottle will do)
Lighter
Plenty of Room.

Spray Deo on the openning of the coke bottle, a good blast will do, light with lighter and then press the middle of the bottle aim away from face

Beware of wind if outside.

Electrolysis is always fun. And there are several ways to do it:

Take a glass of water and mix in some salt to make salt water. Then attach wires to a 9 volt battery, and put the wires in the glass of salt water. Be sure the wires are not touching. From one wire you will see hydrogen bubbles. If the water is cool enough, you will see liquid chlorine (green to yellowish green) from the other wire. If the water is warmer, the chlorine will be as a gas. I suggest using cold water, since the chlorine is easier to contain when it is a liquid.

WARNING: CHLORINE IS A POISONOUS ELEMENT. DO NOT EXPOSE YOUSELF TO IT FOR TOO LONG.

You can also use baking soda (not baking powder!) in place of the salt. Using the baking powder, you will get hydrogen from one wire and oxygen from the other wire

(At least it think its hydrogen and oxygen. It might actually be hydrogen and carbon dioxide If anyone knows whether it's O2 or CO2, please let me know).

AS WITH ALL EXPERIEMENTS, SAFELY DISPOSE OF THE PRODUCTS USED. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT PUT THE WATER IN YOUR MOUTH AFTER EVEN A SECOND OF ELECTROLYSIS. INVISIBLE, DISSOVLED, BYPRODUCTS ARE ALSO CREATED IN THE WATER THAT YOU MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO SEE.

Well, if you do drink it, not only would the chlorine cause problems, but there would also be Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH), commonly known as "lye." It has a pH of 14, which makes it a very strong base; a dangerous one as well.

That's not really true. Acids and bases don't have fixed acidity. The more you concentrate the acid/base, the farther the pH goes from seven. Even vinegar can be obscenely dangerous if you concentrate it enough.

I think Master Hand was talking about pure NaOH rather than a solution...

^ Sounds logical to me...

If you guys can get some 30% Hydrogen Peroxide, and some I- solution, put in some Hydrogen Peroxide, some soap, and some blue food coloring... then add some I- solution and stand back. The I- solution acts as a catalyst to speed up the oxygen escaping the Hydrogen Peroxide, and it creates a huge mound of soapy substance called elephant toothpaste

^Sounds cool. I'll have to try it.

I created a hologram once... looong story there. It's not really "at-home" either, since it requires use of Sodium Hydroxide powder in its pure form... hehe, that was really fun.

When mentioned before, throwing sodium into water creates somewhat of a double reaction.

When the sodium hits the water, it "kicks" the hydrogen ion out, leaving hydroxide ions. This hydroxide combines with the sodium to create sodium hydroxide while the hydrogen ions for hydrogen gas. The creation of sodium hydroxide gives out enough energy itself to deal a powerful punch, but it also ignites the hydrogen gas, creating an even larger fire/explosion.

Potassium matal works better...
Rubidium works better than Potassium...
Francium Rules All - but that gets water from the air and will likely explode in your hand
