Reusable Shopping Bags
How many reusable shopping bags do you own?
What are they made from? Canvas? Jute? A type of plastic?
How often do you forget them when you go shopping?

Re: Reusable Shopping Bags
We've got 2, one insulated & one foldable. My wife keeps the foldable one in her purse, so if she doesn't come shopping with me, I straight forget it exists.

Re: Reusable Shopping Bags
I have 6 made of polyester. I wouldn't use them if they didn't charge a fee, which one of the stores near me does. They are pretty good but not the most convenient. The stores only have paper now anyway, which can be annoying because they don't have handles, and now they seem to be of a lot lower quality and rip easier. When I worked at a grocery store, I bagged people's items with paper in plastic for this reason, strength plus convenience. I bought a stack of a few hundred single use plastic bags when they got rid of them because I actually had a use for them beyond just carrying groceries.

Re: Reusable Shopping Bags
I think I have 10-ish, of which 8 are the insulated bags. We get charged for all bags here.

Re: Reusable Shopping Bags
...I don't think there's a charge for bags here, as long as you're putting things in them (grocery store I used to work at would let you take a few extra, or charge you five cents apiece for paper bags if you needed a lot of them). Some places give you a five- or ten-cent credit for every reusable bag you have along.

Re: Reusable Shopping Bags
I like this concept. Incentivize people, rather than punishing them. It costs 10 cents each, only at one store chain so far, which I'm sure there are a lot of people who pay it because it's low enough they don't want to be bothered. I was caught off guard the first time because I had no idea. In their announcement, they referred to it as a taxable charge, which it's not. Looks like there are some larger chains around here that do issue a credit like that.
