Seems to be rather trendy as I'm hearing it used quite a bit recently. (and, in context).

Do you use the word 'unhinged'?
When did you last say it?
She lives in the clouds and talks to the birds...

I use it, but not often. Can't remember the last time.

...hmmm. It's not a bad synonym for 'crazy', but I tend to use more colourful terms, like "bonkers" and "loony toons" and "nutty as a Stuckey's log". Ooh, and "whimsical in the brainpan"----------that one's from 'Firefly'.
