How many different countries have you been to?

I have nothing to say here, because as of yet I've never traveled outside the U.S. :sob:

But I'm interested in seeing how well-traveled the rest of you are.

I've been to Canada multiple times (though not since I was in grade school probably) and Germany. I've also been in the Netherlands but that was just a layover in Amsterdam and I didn't leave the airport.

Currently in Canada. I've also been to England, Scotland, S. Korea, China briefly, Thailand, and the Cayman Islands.

One of the chaperones on this trip has been to 49 countries and 49 states! I'm so jealous!

Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, England, Wales, Ireland, Spain, Japan, and technically Germany via the Frankfurt airport.

Canada, Mexico, Argentina, and I had a layover in Brazil. That's it, though.

Only America, but I wouldn't want to leave. Every country but Canada has horror stories attached to it which I want no part of, and I have little interest in Canada so it's staying at 1.

^What are the horror stories about Liechtenstein? Or the Faroe Islands? And Canada has some really nasty unsolved serial killings.

I'm not going to tell you you're wrong for being content where you are, but it's a little hard to believe that you've found something to hate about all but two countries that isn't also true of them.

I have unfortunately never been outside the US, nor have I even gotten my passport. I want to, though. I live like 3 hours from Montreal and I'm currently learning French so I'd love to start my international travels there.

Canada (once, to visit my aunt and uncle)
France (a lot. My grandparents lived there before they passed, my Great-Aunt still lives there, and my dad grew up there/my sister was born there so there are lots of family ties. We used to go every holiday season because my dad has a lot of frequent flier miles from his job.)
Japan (twice. Once to visit my sister alongside a mutual friend, which my dad also covered with his miles, and another time I saved up for on my own to visit my sister, girlfriend at the time, and friend - all of whom lived in the country for totally independent reasons.)
Italy (a couple times; I always visited Southern France near the border and a couple times we made day trips to Italy)
Australia (IT WAS LAME AND SUCKED lmao jk it was fkin awesome just hot as balls; first time on the Southern hemisphere though and I'd like to go back sometime)

I'm super lucky because I was able to travel a lot as a kid thanks to my dad's job. And as an adult I've been really bad at saving money because any time I made enough to cover an international plane ticket I would immediately spend it on an international plane ticket. #NoRegrets tho and I'm also definitely lucky to have made enough to cover such expensive travel at all, and to have friends overseas who can help house me <3

I like visiting people, not places, I guess. Or rather I use people as an excuse to visit places. I don't think I'd want to travel if I didn't know people situated at the destination because I hate feeling lost, unanchored, or tourist-y. Having a local friend helps me feel slightly less tourist-y.

I've also not left the States but my goal is to visit all of the states. So far I've lived in three (OR, GA, MD) and been to thirteen others (CA, NV, NM, IL, TX, TN, FL, VA, WV, PA, MA, NJ, and NY). Also have driven through both Carolinas but never stopped for more than a bite to eat (that Maryland-Georgia drive is long af). I've also had a layover in Colorado.

I think that's it??

e: also I am 100% with AJ on the preferring to know people where you're visiting thing and I'm also not the kind of person who plans their itinerary ahead of time; it makes me feel trapped

Outside of the US, it's England, Ireland, Germany, and Austria. And Turkey if you count the airport.

12 States too.

Just 1 country so far. (I don't even have a passport yet.)

But 22 states!
Live in: MO
Significant visits to: IL, AR, CA, CO, TX, MI, OH, TN, FL, SC
Slept the night in: OK, MS, GA
Passed through/briefly entered: WI, IN, KY, LA, AL, UT, KS, NC

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Oh, cool site, Capt.

39 States and 2 Canadian Provinces far. I’d like to turn anything that’s White or Red into, at the very least, Amber.

32 states and 2 provinces for me:

I definitely want to see the rest of the Pacific Coast and AK/HI as well as some of the northern plains states. Not likely to ever go to the others.

^Yellowstone is a must, if you ever get to the Northwest part of the country. Yosemite, too. Lots of amazing National Parks out there.

Has anyone been to Iowa? So far it's a total whiff on the lists posted, even though most of the states around it are pretty common.

Poor Iowa.

Despite being intimately familiar with basically the whole Midwest...no, I don’t believe I’ve ever set foot in Iowa

All my dad's people are from Iowa, so I've been there quite a few times.

As far as countries visited, I make three-----------Canada, Germany, and Austria.

21 states and 1 province

defined "seen a lot of" as at least staying three days
