GotG2 is really good. Just a fun time all around. Multiple scenes had me dying in my seat, and I think while some of it was kinda corny I think they meshed the humor and the heart well overall.
and that's the waaaaaaaaaay the news goes

Next week is the 4th season finale of Agents of SHIELD.
The MCU is then taking a breather until July, when Spidey Homecoming is released.

But they have given us a teaser & a photo of the costumes for Inhumans. (Medusa looks ridiculous, but everyone else seems okay. I'm glad Black Bolt doesn't have his stupid headgear from the comics.)

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

^So yeah, the above Inhumans cast includes (left to right): Gorgon, Karnak, Black Bolt, Medusa, Crystal, Maximus, Triton (not pictured), Auran (not pictured), & Lockjaw (definitely not pictured).

Runaways is much further along that I thought--here's a picture & the lineup (L-R): Gert Yorkes, Nico Minoru, Alex Wilder, Chase Stein, Karolina Dean, & Molly Hernandez.

The full New Warriors lineup has been confirmed as well: Squirrel Girl (we knew that already), Tippy-Toe (naturally), Speedball (!!), Mr. Immortal, Night Thrasher, Microbe, & Debrii. Casting has not yet begun, hence no picture.

One last bit of news: Agents of SHIELD was just renewed for a 5th season! Even if they only do a half-season (I doubt they'll air at the same time as Inhumans), AoS only needs 12 more episodes to reach 100!

And remember "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

...so.

I'm super-behind in the MCU. But I feel safe saying Rogue shouldn't ever be a thing.

Rogue is messed up, man.

^No worries, Rogue is an X-Men character, so unless Fox gives up the rights, she won't be in any MCU stuff.

Couple new things, probably the only update I'll do this month, since Marvel seems to have (wisely) conceded June to Wonder Woman:
First poster & teaser for Black Panther are up; the film is out February 18th.
Final trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming is up; the film is out July 7th. (It takes place just a few months after Civil War; the timeline has been updated to reflect this.)
Season 5 of 'Agents of SHIELD' will be a full 22 episodes, with no breaks, starting in January (alongside Cloak & Dagger) & probably leading into Infinity War...
...speaking of Infinity War, here's Chris Hemsworth doing an early promo thereof.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Wow, busy June for nothing being released....

Somebody leaked a teaser for Runaways.
Someone else leaked a trailer for Inhumans, but the full version's been taken down. (Here's part of it.)
And, although officially the entire MCU has always been all connected, this photo shoot hints at a possible on-camera crossover between the ABC & Netflix shows.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

In an interview this week, Sony Pictures chief Amy Pascal announced that Sony's ill-conceived Spidey spin-off movies (Venom, Silver & Black, and Sinister Six) will connect to the MCU & will include appearance from Tom-Holland-as-Spider-Man, much to the obvious & hilarious surprise of Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige, who was sitting next to her as she said it & who did a hell of a good job holding back a spit-take. In addition to Feige's "oh hell no" face, Pascal's ridiculous declaration is also contradicted by the fact that Holland's contract is only for six already-specified movies (a solo Spidey trilogy that begins in a couple weeks with Homecoming, as well as the already-released Civil War, & the already-filming Infinity War and Untitled Avengers 4).

Here's another attempt at the leaked Inhumans trailer.

Okay, they finally officially released the Inhumans trailer, & also a poster.
This could be really bad or really just kinda okay.

Homecoming came out this weekend, & we had a free afternoon yesterday, so we caught the matinee.

I love the first 2 Raimi Spidey films. I even like Amazing Spider-Man. (It is well-documented, of course, that Spidey 3 & Amazing 2 both suck.) This was the best Spider-Man movie, hands down. Four films into Phase 3, Marvel Studios has reliably shown that they've learned their lesson about villain development--Zemo, Dormammu, Ego, & now the Vulture all rank with Loki as creative characters with distinct motivations. (Compare that with Malekith & Ronan basically being pallet swaps of each other. Or Yellowjacket basically just being an age-reversal of Iron Monger.)

Fortunately, despite Tony Stark's heavy presence in the trailers, he's not really in much of the movie, basically operating as bookends & as a checkpoint between acts. Even Happy Hogan has more scenes. (And it's sweet to see Stark still checking up with Happy's health after Iron Man 3.)

One big problem though:
Spoiler.
This movie seriously screws up the MCU timeline. Canonically, Avengers 1 is in 2012, Civil War is 4 years after Avengers 1 (2016), & Homecoming is 2-3 months after Civil War (still 2016). But Homecoming itself has a big title card saying that it's 8 years after Avengers 1. This means one of three things:

1) Future Shift: They're retconning Civil War/Homecoming to 2020. This contradicts spoken dialogue in Civil War, as well as opening up a gaping chasm of inactivity in the chronology, as moving those movies also drags Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, WHiH, Agents of SHIELD seasons 3-4, Daredevil s2, Luke Cage s1, Iron Fist s1, The Defenders, Inhumans, & everything else yet to come, leaving basically nothing (except Doctor Strange) happening between winter 2015 (Jessica Jones s1) and spring 2019 (Age of Ultron).

2) Past Shift: They're retconning Avengers 1 to 2008. This still contradicts spoken dialogue in Civil War, as well as on-screen dates in Iron Man 2 (Stark Expo 2011). It also still opens up a gaping chasm of inactivity, as moving Avengers 1 also drags Iron Man 1, Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, Thor, Incredible Hulk, Dark World, Winter Soldier, Agents of SHIELD s1, Daredevil s1, & all of the one-shots, leaving nothing at all happening from spring 2009 (Winter Soldier/Agents s1 finale) to summer 2014 (Guardians 1).

3) Easy Fix: The director screwed up & Feige just didn't catch it. Everything's fine.

BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!
Sprinkled throughout the film are some pre-taped PSAs by Captain America. In one of them, Cap mentions being frozen for 65 years before his recovery shortly before Avengers 1. Well, 2012-65=1947, which is not only well after World War II ended, but also after most-to-all of Agent Carter. So the "future shift" is straight-up impossible if the numbers in Homecoming are to be believed.

Of course, 2008-65=1943, which still contradicts First Avenger, in which Cap is frozen in 1945, so the "past shift" is also impossible if the numbers in Homecoming are to be believed.

Ergo, the only way to get out of this mess is the "easy fix": Throw the director of Homecoming under the bus. It's far, far simpler to say that just 1 movie is wrong than to say that half the franchise (in either direction) is wrong.
And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

I just saw it tonight and I've gotta say that this is definitely the best Spider-Man. They really nailed the character here and Tom Holland did a fantastic job. Really, the entire movie was really well-cast. Michael Keaton was good here too. Loved seeing guys like Donald Glover, Hannibal Burress, Martin Starr, and Tony Revolori in the ensemble. Overall it had just the right blend of growing pains teen drama and humor for Spidey. Going with a younger character was a great idea. I was super skeptical about a second reboot of the franchise so soon, but I really really liked this. Overall, this has been a hell of a good year for comic book flicks.

[spoiler]I noticed the timeline thing right away too. I assume it just slipped past the Marvel producers and stuff. Honest mistake.[/spoiler][DOUBLEPOST=1499838005,1499837927][/DOUBLEPOST]Also there's no **** way Marisa Tomei is 52. No. ****. Way.

Ah, thank goodness somebody besides me finally posted. ;)

News: The cast of New Warriors has been announced.

Next: The Defenders comes out on Netflix on August 18th; it will be set 1 month after season 1 of Iron Fist.

Then: The first 2 episodes of Inhumans come to IMAX theaters on September 1st; they will then repeat on ABC on September 29th, with the rest of the episodes airing over the following 2 months.

Later: Thor Ragnarok and The Punisher are both due out in November. Agents of SHIELD s5 debuts in January. Black Panther in February. Infinity War in May. Ant-Man & the Wasp later in 2018. The next round of Netflix shows (Daredevil s3, Jessica Jones s2), the Freeform shows (Cloak & Dagger, New Warriors), & Runaways are all due in 2018 as well, but no dates have been confirmed yet. Luke Cage s2 could be 2018 or 2019. Everything else will be 2019 or later.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Comic-Con happened!

There's two new trailers for The Defenders: One narrated by Stan with a "Punisher reveal" & one that's more traditionally trailery.
There's a new trailer for Inhumans that actually doesn't suck.
There's a new trailer for Thor: Ragnarok with a lot more Banner/Hulk action.
There were also teaser clips from The Punisher and Infinity War, but they haven't been officially released yet, & every bootleg upload gets sniped by lawyers, even as recently as 2 hours ago. There is a nifty set of posters, though!
Kevin Feige also confirmed a few things about the following movies: Ant Man & the Wasp will feature Michelle Pfeiffer (as Janet van Dyne) & Lawrence Fishburne (as Bill Foster), and Captain Marvel will feature Skrulls & Nick Fury....with both of his eyes because the movie is set in the early 90s. [Timeline is being updated now.]

4 weeks to Defenders.
6 weeks to Inhumans IMAX.
10 weeks to Inhumans ABC.
15 weeks to Ragnarok.
More than that to Punisher.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

My wife and I saw Spiderman: Homecoming for my birthday and it is fantastic! One of the best of the MCU so far. The best part was not wasting the first half of the film on his origin story and learning his powers.

Finally saw Doctor Strange and Ant-Man this week. Aside from the whole magic thing, the most unbelieveable thing in Doctor Strange was just how fast he learned all that stuff, but they never really gave a time frame on how long he was there, so...

Ant-Man was good, but it was pretty predictable

^Canonically, Doctor Strange takes place over nearly a year. Plus he literally studied while he slept. ;)

News: Despite being expected to be a 2018 release, Runaways now has a release date of 21 Nov 2017. Gonna be a busy November!

Mid-August 2017 Update

#80

Post by CaptHayfever » Sun Aug 27, 2017 12:14 am

The Defenders came out last week. I'd say about on par with Luke Cage or season 2 of Daredevil in quality. Not as good as Jessica Jones or season 1 of Daredevil. Way better than Iron Fist.
Spoiler.
Hopefully we're done with the Hand now, but Madame Gao might've survived, so we'll see.
Update time:
--The end credits of the Defenders finale included a new Punisher trailer (which you'd miss if you let Netflix auto-play the suggested teaser for something else), but we STILL don't have a release date beyond "2017", a rapidly closing window of time.
--New Inhumans character-intro trailer. Again, the first 2 episodes will have their IMAX screenings next weekend, & they'll re-air (in longer form!) on ABC at the end of September to kick off the 8-episode season.
--New Japanese Ragnarok trailer.
--Fresh upload of the Runaways teaser, since there's been no other news on that front yet, despite the series being released in 3 months.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"
