Do you collect anything?

#1

Post by ScottyMcGee » Tue Sep 30, 2014 1:25 pm

I used to collect several things when I was younger. I went into that whole State Coin fad that happened. It died after a while. Of course, I had my share of Pokemon AND Digimon card collecting. I then got into Mage Knight figurines. Anyone ever collect Mage Knights?

Nowadays I collect Snapple bottle caps, you know the ones with all the facts on them (Funny story, I knew the answer to an extra credit question in high school because of those).

I got into comic books a couple years ago, but my desire to collect them has dwindled somewhat. I only buy things I actually read or are rare that I also want to read. My sense of collecting things is pretty much overall "If it's rare and cool I'll get it and hang it somewhere." This could mean anything - a special edition DVD, a figurine, a first edition book, etc.

I have all the state quarters somewhere, and I did Pokemon cards for a while.

Unless it's something with historical significance, (the few fossils I own and the arrowheads I've found) I'm usually more apt to sell rare things. Having Pikmin 2 or the metal Metroid Prime collection was nice and all, but the ridiculous amount of money people paid for them on eBay was much, much nicer.

I collect an odd assortment of things... retro games and consoles (I'm pretty much done collecting them, though, and just enjoy what I have already got), books, art, pictures (on my computer), ideas, wishes and wands (...for real  ). I also have a growing collection of baking stuff. ;) :D

Val doesn't really collect things anymore. Too expensive a hobby for him. He used to have tons of Pokemon and MtG cards, though.

Lately I've been collecting a lot a books. I feel okay with this new hobby because I'm building my library for my future classroom and also I've been reading books so quickly that hopefully it justifies it. Hopefully.

I also collect earrings.

My old college roommate always liked to find first editions of books. I never realized until then how cool they are. I especially am fond though of finding old pulp fiction-esque novels.

^Man. I don't know that I especially collect first editions or pulp novels, but I do really like Conan of Cimmeria (both Howard and his many excellent imitators), and James Bond books, and it's kind of hard to find them things in any but your old timeworn copies at Half-Price Books.

I like how old books smell. There's nothing quite like it. It's strange.

I collect coins and paper money. They're interesting.

Books, pinecones, tarot decks and gemstones, paperclips. Gloves/scarves. Interesting trinkets. Colourful feathers, so on and so forth.[DOUBLEPOST=1412224572,1412224428][/DOUBLEPOST]I have old collections (as in, I'm not adding to them anymore) of Pokémon cards, and foreign money.

^Hey, talking of foreign money, are you still interested in weird-shaped coins? We spoke of this a couple years back, and I still have the same pile of goofy coins I don't care about that I'm willing to trade off, or even just give away. Shall we make a deal? Do you trust me with your address? (I promise, I'll send you only the most tasteful nudes as a bonus.)
^Man. Hrrrnnnggggg I love Robert E. Howard. I typically collect The Shadow and The Phantom novels. Then also any weird sci-fi that looks cool.

I went to jury duty a while back for the first time and they had us sit in a room with a lot of books. I saw that there were many old ones, so I figured, "Hrm, they can't possibly have anything I'm interested in, can they?"

Lo and behold, I found an ancient copy of stories from The Spider - the original vigilante with "spider powers". He had a gun that shot webs.

So naturally I stole it from the court house.

Indeed. It's like one of those scents you either love or hate - like gasoline or freshly cut grass.

Speaking of foreign money, I have a coin from Canada, and a bill from Germany and Mexico. There's something else foreign that I have in terms of money but I can't recall right now. I'll have to double check.

I guess I collect foreign money from places I've gone. I have money from England, Korea, Thailand, Canada, and the Cayman Islands.

I love to collect Skylanders.

I'm also thinking of getting back to collecting Playmobil - the figures are now getting so much more detailed and complex.
Hrrrnnnggggg I love Robert E. Howard.
Damn skippy. Like, on top of your Conans, I got into Howard's other biz, like Bran Mak Morn and Cormac Mac Art and all. The man was a real talent. I'm given to understand he was a close friend to HP Lovecraft-------you know, if he'd lived longer, he might easily have had the same influence on the fantasy genre that Lovecraft had on horror. Oh man, imagine another forty years' worth of Conan stories. Ugh. This crummy iteration of reality. Why couldn't I have been born in the alternate universe where Howard had written a jillion more books and the SW prequels had been rad and David Bowie was still releasing records.

Hey, me too. You have any of those wild collectible ones? I got the special Dark Swap Force box once upon a time (featuring goofy black-and-silver versions of the standard figures). Also got some of them weird variants, your Legendaries and all. Jade Fire Kraken. Missed a few (Best Buy had a full rack of the dumb Halloween recolours of Eye-Brawl last year. Never got one, despite not having the standard version. Oh well. Think I can just about live without it.)

Only a few of 'em - I managed to get my hands on the Kickoff Countdown and a Ninjini - back when it was rare. [seriously, there were one ninjinis for every 40 of the other giants.]

I'm going to start collecting pint glasses.
I only have 3 that are mine, but once I get a place to actually display them, I'm going to start collecting them.

I pretty much just started ordering the ones I was interested in on Amazon if I couldn't find 'em in the stores. (Like, from the start I kind of wanted to just catch as catch can------you know, the chase is part of the fun, innit. But I couldn't find a Flashwing for the life of me-----had to go online. Wouldn't you know, Flashwing ended up being my fave. Hard as nails, and cute as the dickens, to boot.)
