Metroid RPG?

#1

Post by Beam Yosho the Drunkard » Thu Jan 06, 2005 2:46 am

...I've been thinking about this for some time.

I haven't gotten a good story. But I've gotten some character ideas.

Samus(Duh)
A Rouge Space Pirate (Which might join the Federation)
A Luminoth
An (almost) Tame Metroid
Galatic Federation Troop(s) (They can join on certain missions. Kind of like the Empire Troops on Final Fantasy 3/6)
Chozo (Maybe genetically engineered one, if they are indeed extinct.)
N'kren and Ylla(They're species mentioned in Luminoth lore on MP:2. What they look like, who knows. But there's a chance they can be included.)

And the enemies:

Space Pirates (It's a must. They could also be hunting down the Rouge Pirate, as well.)
Ing (Why not?)
X (They ARN'T dead yet...are they?)

An Ing/X hybird (Or maybe a Space Pirate controlled by BOTH the X and Ing? A metroid is out of the question, seeing as they have immunity to X.)

.....That's about all I have now.

A Metroid RPG sounds cool, seeing how well the exploration element in MP 1 and 2 worked out.

I'd say no... My favorite quality about metroid is the action gameplay. I mean, if you're going to make a good RPG, why just slap a Metroid skin on there? Why not go the whole 9 yards?

Exactly. S'why I think those fellows working on the CT RPG are pretty stupid despite their talents.

Please don't SiT. What do you mean, CT RPG? Chrono-Trigger RPG? Counter-Terrorist RPG? Contra-Three RPG? Crazy-Taco RPG?

Metroid... RPG?

One of the things I love about Metroid is the total immersion into the environment. It's just you, as Samus, and the planet (and the hostile forces) and nothing else. I get totally overwhelmed comprehending that solitude, usually in a map area with a lot of lava or hundreds of feet below ground... but I digress; Samus works alone. (Well, she's sometimes aided, but that's rare, and never for an extended period of time.)

...The other thing I love was just finding that a boss strategy was just totally blasting missiles repeatedly into his gut-- JUST that-- and I fell in love right away. <3 *sigh*
The hills are shadows, and they flow
From form to form, and nothing stands;
They melt like mist, the solid lands,
Like clouds they shape themselves and go.

Yeah, that and I love how the story is presented more through subtle, interactive discover rather than cutscenes. Like the scanning in Metroid prime, for example.

I just would find it rather tasteless. Part of the charm of the Metroid franchise is that they do NOT milk it as hardcore as Zelda or Mario.
