New Force Vol. 1 Chap. 1

The cavernous hallway echoed the sounds of footsteps and the rumbling of luggage being pulled in. There had been no one to greet him when he had arrived, and he had to wait 20 minutes outside the door alone (the information he had recieved had told him that he would have to arrive at the destination alone, no guests or employees allowed), before finally decided to just try and door.

Kenneth Washington got several steps into the door before dropping his leather suitcases on the tiled floor, and, taking a moment to wipe the sweat from his brow and push the bangs from his eyes, made a call out to the echoes, of course getting no answer but the reverb of his own voice. Growing a bit impatient, Kenneth sighed and half sit/half flopped onto the largest of his suitcases. The uneasy peace would be short-lived, however, as he heard a car pull up from outside. Bouncing to his feet, he jogged to the door and looked out, ready to yell at the driver hired by the "Acadamy" just in time to see the vehicle leisurely drive away.

In its place was left a rather small, mousey looking girl with deep, red hair that hung loosely and, although neat, not much else had been done with it. The second thing Kenneth noticed, though, was the pile of mismatched suitcases and a duffle bag and that hung on the girl's shoulder. Hesitating for just a second, Kenneth slowly made his way to the girl and smiled politely. "Hello," he offered his hand, to which the girl shyly, 'or was she distracted' Kenneth thought to himself, took and shook softly, "I'm Kenneth, Kenneth Washington. And by the looks of those bags I will assume . . . you're here for the same reason I am?"

The girl looked up, smiled softly and half shrugged. "Looks like it, I'm Fiona Porter," she stated politely, if not matter-of-factly. Kenneth smiles a little wider and grabbed the two suitcases, leaving the duffle back for her.

"So Fiona," Kenneth said, cheerfully (a tone he had learned to fake in his sleep from the absolutely death-bringing boring meetings his father forced him to attend at his office. 'You have to learn early how to address your subordinates' Kenneth heard his father say in his mind and quickly shook it off), "do you know if we were supposed to go to any room in particular, or just wait? Seems like we were denied the "Welcome Wagon" treatment." Kenneth made a motion to the empty hallway.

Fiona just kept that small smile on her face and shook her head. Kenneth mentally sighed, keeping his own plastered grin in place. He really wasn't fond of silent, shy types . . .

Just as Fiona and Kenneth were getting aquainted, a slender girl with the brightest color of blue hair interrupts them.

She dresses in very plain clothing and speaks in a timid tone.

Katlin: Hello nice to meet you two... so are you guys also new here?

Kenneth and Fiona look at one another before nodding.

Kenneth: So do you have any idea why we were chosen to attend this very private top secret school?

Katlin starts fumbling through her backpack and pulls out an envelop.

Katlin: According to this paper... it seems
that we have some sort of latent abilities that make us unique from normal humans... but so far
I havent notice such phenomenon.

Katlin just stares at the two with wide eyes.

Kenneth: Same here... I don't seem to recall being able to do anything unique or possessing any extraodinary ability... guess we'll find out soon about the true purpose of us being here. He turns to Fiona.

Fiona: I hope so... ::Thinks to herself.:: I don't feel right keeping the truth from them... but I don't want them to think
indifferently about me... I'll tell them once we know more about our purpose here.

Unknown to the others Fiona has been exposed to her strange abilities since she was a child, but managed to keep it a secret til this day.

After brief introductions, the room fell into an uncomfortable silence. After a few minutes, Katlin sighed, drawing no attention. Fiona was busy, lost in some inner dialogue, and Kenneth was looking around the hallway with feigned interest, probably trying to identify the pictures on the wall. Idly, Katlin lets her eyes wander to the young, strapping male, looking down Kenneth’s strong shoulders, down his back, stopping just at the top of his . . .

Katlin drops her head quickly, blushing to herself. Her head suddenly turned, she notices the initials on Kenneth’s leather suitcase, “K.M.W.” She lets her mind wander for a moment, before her eyes go wide, and she looks up at Kenneth, who had his head now turned back and had caught her eyes. Shocked, Katlin ducks her head again, but lifts it again.

“Kenneth M. W.?” she stutters softly. “It wouldn’t be . . .”

Kenneth sighs softly, but smiles, “yes, I am Kenneth Michael Washington, son to William Washington," he states as if reading it from a cue card.

“CEO of Washington Industries?” Fiona says, now in shock herself. Most everyone had heard of W.I., they were responsible for a lot of the most breakthrough technologies around.

“The very one,” Kenneth let his smile grow a little large, now somewhere between pleasant and gritting his teeth. Fiona heard the slight creak of teeth against teeth and fought back the urge to question him further.

“But, you’re like a celebrity,” Katlin blurted out suddenly.

“Not quite," Kenneth said quickly, "at least I’d hope not. I just make an appearance when I have to, that’s all,” Kenneth put up his hands in defense. He hated the whole notion that just because he was in a position to exploit himself, he’d take it. “I would like to think myself as normal, its not like I’m some kind of glutton for attention . . .”

The door was roughly shoved open, making Katlin let out a slight shriek, her feet leaving the ground. Kenneth’s head snapped toward the door, and his eyes widened. At the door, was a remarkably pale young woman, long silver hair tied up tight, showing off her forehead and its smooth perfection. Maroon eyes very quickly found his as she smiled brightly, recognizing him.

Kenneth felt himself break into a cold sweat, the last person he wanted to see here, a person he had actually made a game out of avoiding at social functions . . . “Betsy Pateva,” Kenneth croaked out, his pleasent smile now descending even more into an act of teeth gritting. Fiona let her head look back and forth between Kenneth and this new woman, apparently named Betsy, no one noticing the sudden star struck look that enveloped Katlin’s face.

Kenneth immediately started looking for an escape.

Betsy: Well hello kenneth wasnt expecting to see you in this dump.

Betsy enters the room like she owns the place and
a two men dress in black with dark shades walk behind her lugging 4 huge luggages each.

Kenneth: Oh dear... this is a small world after all.

Kenneth shakes his head and sigh deeply

Betsy: Hun don't slouch not attractive.

Kenneth: I'm not a "hun".

Betsy: Sure sweety.

Kenneth becomes annoyed at this point as Betsy continues to have fun with him.

Kenneth: I'm not a swee... forget it I'm not gonna bother.[/b]

Kenneth turns away from Betsy and takes a seat in the lounge

Fi and Katlin both walk over to Betsy and introduce themselve. Katlin offers to shake Betsy's hand, but Betsy just make a fake smile and said "hi".

Betsy: : :sigh: : When is the headmaster gonna show up so I could pick a room and put away all my clothings.

Kenneth: Umm you brought your entire closet with you how many hours would it take to put them away?

Betsy rolls her eyes at Kenneth

Betsy: Bite me.

Kenneth: Not even if you were served on a gold platter.

Betsy: Ewww... you cannibal.. sicko!

Betsy is very annoyed at this point and walks over to the window and pulls out her cellphone and start making random calls. As she continue to browse all the names on her list, she could see a tall handsome young guy with dark brown hair and grey eyes with very lucious lips walking toward the entrance.

Betsy: Oh now that's what you call a true stud.

The rest of the guys walk over toward the window to see what Betsy was fussing about.

“You’re joking right?” Kenneth asked, looking over Betsy’s shoulder, peering at the strange newcomer, “He’s just another pretty boy, like you don’t have a dozen on speed dial already,” Kenneth motioned toward Betsy’s still opened cell phone.

“Well, duh, Kenneth, I wouldn’t expect you to find him attractive, go back to your corner and sulk. Go on, shoo,” Betsy waved her hands, making Kenneth simply roll his eyes and wander away.

“He is . . . quite attractive,” Katlin said idly.

“That’s putting it mildly, Katie, my girl,” Betsy said and moved to get up, missing the look of disgust at Betsy’s new nickname for her.

The man entered the academy in almost silence, Kenneth beating Betsy to the first move as he extended his hand. “Hey, I’m Kenneth.”

“Shane,” the man said, flatly.

“Move over, Kenneth,” Betsy said, shoving at Kenneth’s shoulder, making Kenneth, once again roll his eyes and mouth ‘be afraid’ to Shane before moving away again. “Hiya, I’m Betsy Pateva, but I’m sure you’ve heard of me . . .”

“Can’t say I have,” Shane replied, just as flatly.

“Well then, I have so much to tell you . . .” Betsy smiled a fake smile and reached for Shane’s free hand, caught off guard when it was suddenly jerked away, so in shock she completely missed the dagger glare coming from Shane.

“Attention.” A new voice sounded loudly from the back of the room. It was a young man, older then them but he couldn’t even be 25. He stood tall, over 6 foot, with hair that nearly rivaled Betsy’s in paleness, though his was clearly more of a blond-white, and tipped up into spikes. His eyes were hidden by a pair of thin, dark sunglasses, which, even though fashionable (noted Betsy), were obviously too dark to wear indoors. “Welcome to Freedom Force, an Academy for those with Latent Abilities . . . such as yourselves,” the man stated flawlessly. “Please follow me to meet the headmaster of this Academy.”

The mysterious blonde stranger lead the small group into a huge empty room with only chairs arraigned in a circle. A small frail woman, dressed in a black blouse with matching black skirt, sits in the center with her legs crossed. Her hair is pinned in a tight bun and she also wears a dark shade concealing her eyes.

Woman: Welcome younglings and I see you all got acquainted nicely. ::stands up:: Please take a seat.

Betsy: So are you like the head of this joint Ms...? ::Betsy asks amusingly::

Ms.Gainora: Please you can address me as Ms.Gainora. Now lets discuss your true movetive for being here. This is my assistant Gavin and he'll show us a little slide show about how this academy works.

Kenneth: Oh this is soo... so exciting.

Betsy: Sarcasm?

Kenneth: NO!

Ms.Gainora: I shall not have any of that nonsense in my presense. ::stares at both Kenneth and Betsy coldly.::

Kenneth frowns and stands up, "I have better things to do, Ms. Gainora, than stand here and be yelled at by the likes of you. I will see myself out . . ."

"Can dish it out, but can't take it, hun?" Betsy said with a smirk.

"Ms. Pateva," Ms. Gainora chastised quickly, before standing from her own seat and looking at Kenneth with her best attempt at a freindly look, which she couldn't quite pull off. "Mr. Washington, all I ask is that you stay for the presentation, after that, you may make any decision you wish concerning the academy."

"I really don't see why I should-" Kenneth began, still flustered.

"Oh, come on, Kenny, sit down next to me," Betsy said, her voice dripping with cynicism as she winked.

"Will you two just shut up so we can get on with this," Shane finally snapped, glaring at both of them. Katlin squeaked at his sudden loud voice, the sound making Betsy burst out with a laugh.

The brow on Ms. Gainora's face was terribly creased, but she swallowed her voice and took her seat. "Ladies, Gentlemen, all I ask is you please watch the presentation. I will not force you to stay . . ." Ms. Gainora stalled for just a moment before continuing, "but I think it would be in all your best interests to stay." Kenneth sighed and finally returned to his seat, everyone else falling quiet. Ms. Gainora nodded and turned to Gavin, "Now, please, Gavin."

Gavin nodded back, Kenneth and Shane noting how quiet he had seemed to be, the rest not taking notice.

The lights dimmed and what was once a large portrait of the school quickly faded to white before new images flashed on it. This time an aerial view of the school, empty, of course, since it was never been occupied.

"Freedom Force Academy," an announcer's voice began, "a school created for a very special purpose, for a very special cliental. More specifically, a cliental of those with latent or still undeveloped mutant abilities."

The room fell very deathly still.

As the presentation is over the light of the room came back on.

Betsy: Well that just sucks... I thought this place would be a walk in the park so I could get away from the boring upper classmen private school... now this is... like bootcamp! I'm sorry these hands aren't made for hardwork.

Betsy prepares to get up and leave, but as she was about to exit the room Gavin stood blocking her way.

Betsy: Well cutie if you want my number you
could just ask no need to stare at me like that.

Gainora: I'm sorry this is a super private academy you made a commitment by agreeing to enroll, so my dear... you can not just come and go. This isn't an upscale beverly hill shopping district. ::smirks::

Every body just stare at Betsy's angry face silently.

Fi: Betsy... betsy ::telepathically::

Betsy: Who said that!?!

Gainora: My dear you're being illusional... no one said anything. ::stares at betsy with a bewildered look on her face.::

Fi: Betsy this is Fi... I am mind linking all of us at the moment, please do not talk outloud anymore. Let me explain I am probably the only one here that knows how to use her ability, so lets just continue to see what this place has to offer.

Kenneth: I agreed, I do not like this Ms.Gainora, something about her doesn't add up, so lets just play along please.

Shane: Ms.Gainora...

The rest of the group turns to Shane in shock as if he's about to reveal what just went on.

Gainora: What is it Mr.Green?

Shane: It was a really long trip getting here, so mind showing us to our room?

Gainora: Why of course... ::turns to Gavin::

Gavin: Just follow me and I'll lead each of
you to your rooms.

The ladies had been led to their room, a large bedroom with three beds available. Also in the room, were two plush, red couches, three armoires, and assorted tables and end-tables, along, of course, with fixtures to give the room a soft light that seemed soothing, even comforting.

The first night in this nightmare, however, comfort would not be found easy.

Although they had been told to go to sleep as soon as they could, Fiona was up by the third armiore, empty only a few peices of her clothes into it, keeping quiet, as if any sudden movement would cause the room to explode . . . which, looking at Betsy, might in fact happen.

Tapping furiously at her phone, Betsy grimaced, wiping a few tears of frustration away as her service repeatedly came up as 'unavailable'.

Katlin just watched, curled up on her bed, as the other two girls toiled away. Not sure if she should try and say something, and too shy to try anyhow.

"They probably have jammers," Fiona said softly, looking back at Betsy, who looked up, and frowned even more. "That is why you can't pick up a signal, they probably have jammers that can block any signals . . ."

"Don't talk to me, you freak," Betsy said coldly.

"You're the same . . ."

"I am not a freak!!" Betsy screamed at Fiona, making the bed shake as she rose to her knees, throwing her phone onto the cushion. "I am not some mutant freak, I am a normal girl, and tomorrow I will leave this place and you can just stay here and die for all I care!" Betsy was now crying, pushing her face into the pillow.

Katlin looked away, afraid to watch the scene anymore. Fiona just looked at Betsy, no anger in her eyes, no hatred, no disgust. All Fiona had in her eyes at that moment was empathy.

~-~-~-~

The sounds of a scream made Kenneth and Shane look back, but all they saw was Gavin's form at the door, still showing them in. Between the time they left Ms. Gainora's office and now, he had barely muttered two whole sentences, and the quiet was beginning to grow old.

"Why can't we just leave?" Kenneth asked.

Gavin looked down and spoke softly, his eyes were so sad, Shane noted. "You need time to adjust. Most . . . people, in your position, would react and run away."

"And what's wrong with running away?"

Gavin's head didn't move, he kept his eyes low, "you should sleep, tomorrow they will try and introduce you to your powers."

"You're one too, aren't you?" Shane asked, the first sentance he had said without anger since he arrived.

"Yes."

"Do you enjoy it? Being a mutant?" Shane said, trying to coax more out of the strane blonde.

Gavin turned, his back facing the door and said softly, "you can stay up if you wish, but you should sleep." He seemed like he wanted to say more, but no more words would come, so he just left Kenneth and Shane alone to their room, closing the door behind him.

As the sun starts to set, a noise can be heard from outside, a rough screeching of tire's, and an engine puffing away, sounding almost exhausted.

As an old yellow el camino pulls up the driveway, makeing all sort's of noise's and sound's, a wave of frantic energy overcome's the school and all inside of it. The car pulls up to the front, then, as if finaly trying to escape, the transmision just drop's from the bottom of the car, and the door opens as a young lady step's out and trip's over nothing..... absolutley nothing.

The young lady pulls herself up and dust's herself off, she turn's to the car and open's the back door, and it falls right off the hinge's, she look's down and frown's as she start's talking to herself...

"oh, thats just great now how am i supposed to get home, first the transmission grinds the entire 3,000 miles here and now the door falls of, i don't know what i did wrong, its an automatic, for cryin out loud, and i'm allready late as hell, the gas meter said empty 10 mile's back, i don't even know why i came here!!!"

She grab's her suit case and pull's, but it appear's to be stuck somehow as she pull's and pull's and "POP", she fly's backwards and skid's across the ground.

"OW"

she stand's up and grabs her suitcase, dust's herself off again, walks up, and knock's on the fron't door.

OOC:sorry i didn't mean to leave it open in such a way so you couldn't post, i meant to leave it open for you to pick up, and go with it or something, i have a tendency to do that.

and i'm not sure what i should

The next morning.

In the females section of the dormitory.

Betsy: Oh my god... it's bad enough I have to share a room with the two of you, now Ms. Gainora is
putting this weird girl named San Megumi into the mix!

Fi and Katlin just look at one another and sigh.

Fi: Oh come on I'm sure she's a very nice person.

::A knock on their door can be heard by all three girls.::

Katlin: Come in the door isn't locked.

Ms. Gainora enters the room with an oriental looking girl with ravened hair and emerald green eyes.

Ms. Gainora: As you all know, San Megumi is to be joined in your rank, but she won't be staying in this room.

Betsy stood up at this point.

Betsy: What!? You mean this little freak gets her own room while i have to share mine with these two other freaks?! ::She quickly turns to both Katlin and Fi:: No offense.

Ms. Gainora: Calm child and don't be silly this room is too small for four girls. So I decided to move you out Betsy.

Betsy: Ohhh Ms. Gainora I'm so sorry I ever doubted you. ::Betsy face lights up like a bright light bub as she races to repack her clothing to move into this new so called room.

Ms. Gainora: Now child you're getting ahead of me here... you're gonna move into a new room with San here.

Betsy: Eh...

Betsy just froze in her place with her back turned from the group with eyes wide open as she drops all her clothings. The three other girls start giggling in hysteria including Ms. Gainora but slightly.

Ms. Gainora.: Now I will let you girls get accquainted, so hurry on and start getting to know one another. Just be sure to meet up in the training room in a few hours. I will introduce you to a very special person that helped brought all of you here.

San stands from sitting on the bed and bow's politly to Ms.Gainora
"yes, Ms.Gainora"
As she turn's to collect her book's and clothe's.
Over that one night she managed to pull out and read partly through at least 20 book's which were scattered all over her bed, san ended up falling asleep,on the floor while leaning against her bed.

she still wasn't sure what was going on but she knew that if she waited long enough someone would tell her, and then it would be back to her book's most likley.

"So . . . you and Betsy?"

"What?!" Kenneth nearly shouted, his suitcase falling off the bed, spilling shirts all over the floor. Shane had been quiet for a while, but as the night grew late, he had begun to open up . . . slowly.

"Come on, you and Betsy. Fighting like that? You must of had an 'encounter'," Shane said, a small but sadistic grin on his face.

"No," Kenneth said, trying to grab as many shirts off the floor as he could in one try, "no, no way, so NOT my type. I mean, I wouldn't say I'm picky, but a girl should at least have a soul. And, y'know, not be a heartless witch."

Shane raised his eyebrows, "ok, fine, but out of the three, Betsy, Fiona, and . . . whoever the third one was-"

"Katlin," Kenneth supplied.

"Katlin," Shane added, "which one you have the hots for?" Shane made a point by wagging his eyebrows suggestively. Kenneth just stared at like he had grown a second head.

"I don't know, I mean, I only got to meet them for like fifteen minutes."

"By looks only," Shane offered, getting annoyed with Kenneth's obsession with rationalizing everything too much.

"I don't know, man, I mean looks aren't all that important to me. I mean they are all . . . attractive, I guess, even Betsy, sort of . . ."

"Fine, fine, whatever, lets drop it then," Shane said, turning his back, getting tired of the conversation.

Kenneth blinked and laid the last of his shirts on the bed in a clump. "Well . . . what about you?"

"What about me?" Shane said, feigning ignorance.

"Who do you have the . . . 'hots' for?" Kenneth asked, the words sounding funny coming out of his mouth.

Shane just shrugged, grabbing his toothbrush and assorted toiletries from his duffle bag and headed for the bathroom, "not sure yet . . ." he said absently. "Gavin was kinda cute."

Shane disappeared into the bathroom after that, leaving Kenneth to nod for a moment, before his head snapped up and his eyes grew slightly wide, "wait, what?"

~-~-~-~

Ms Gainora sat at her desk, fingers interlocked in front of her, looking forward at her guest with interest. He sat before her, overcoat open, a pin-stripe dress shirt being flashed out, the dark brown dress coat hidden under the large coat. His dark, brown eyes stared back at her with slight disinterest, the wrinkles in his face showing just slightly as he sighed. Despite his wrinkles, he didn’t look terribly old, maybe in his late thirties, early forties, his cropped black hair not showing a single gray hair yet, his face clean-shaven, his thin lips curled in a frown. To be honest, he looked a lot like an IRS agent, or some government official.

“Was it really necessary I stay here any longer then tomorrow?” he asked, a bit annoyed.

“Mr. Seek,” Ms. Gainora said softly, staring deep into his eyes, like she was trying to stare into his soul, but the effect didn’t quite take, “you are here to keep close track of the development of our pupils ‘skills’. You have already told me they have the potential to be quite powerful . . .”

“Yes, but even with potential, it may be years before advanced mutations will appear . . . after I define their primary mutations tomorrow, you will probably not need me-”

“Mr. Seek,” Ms. Gainora stated, growing irritated, “I am not fond of the word ‘probably.’ You will stay. Tomorrow you will define their powers, and then you will check them every week to assess the progress,” Ms. Gainora leaned forward, darkening her eyes, “do I make myself clear?”

Mr. Seek rose from his chair, glaring daggers but nodding, “crystal clear, Headmistress.”

As Ms.Gainora led San and Betsy down the hall and around a corner, betsy glare's at san as san keep's her head down and and stare's at her feet the whole time, and yet somehow, despite how much attention she is paying her feet, she still manage's to trip over something that does not exist.

As she fall's to the ground, and luggage is flung into the air, the very startled san see's the fall's coming and fears the hard floor hitting her face, it will most likely break her glasses, but then in half a second her eye sight fill's with a blinding blue light, and then when she think's she will somehow fall forever she hit's hard on her back, it hurt alot, and as she laid there her vision slowly started to clear she started seeing shape's again and then other color's beside's blue fill her vision, and finally she can see straight, all though none of it make's any sense. she can see ms.gainora and betsy looking down at her, and yet they seem so far away, and as her focus shift's she notice's that she only see's their heads looking down the hole at he-

SHE SEE'S THEIR HEAD'S LOOKING DOWN THE HOLE AT HER FROM THE FLOOR ABOVE!!!

Such a realization only raises even more question's.

As the ringing from the small explosion clear's from her ears she can hear ms.gainora yelling down...

ms.Gainora "San, are you all right, San Megumi, can you move?...." and so on trying to make sure that san was ok, but San's gaze shifted over to betsy's face and what she saw there was shocking as all hell, she saw the look of someone who look's like they just died. the look was so filled with shock that san almost thought she was dead, but then betsy looked over and ms.gainora as she stood up and probably headed for the stair's.

san shook her head to get out of the shock and amazement of what just happened, as she sat up her back hurt tremendously, she quickly snaped her head to the left and then to the right and "POP", her back started feeling better right away. san stood up carfully and looked around to get her bearing's...

up above betsy was watching and a little confused over what exactly just happened her self, she went over it in her mind 'ok she tripped, she fell then bright blue light lit up the floor and the floor under her gave in...'

Slender, but strong arms pulled the dress-shirt off, leaving him in only an undershirt and his slacks. He had already ditched his shoes and socks when he came into his room. It was a nice room . . . a bit simple, but since he would be here alone, it was more then enough.

Kenneth, the business tycoon's heir, as he had read in their profiles. He was as clean-cut as they came, believed in the old tactics of honesty and hard work . . . Kenneth was really born a few decades too late, and especially to the wrong father. Maybe they would get along, Gavin had some silly idealisms with honesty as well, at least that they would have in common.

Gavin sighed and slid his belt off, his pants nearly falling straight away from his slender hips as his rolled his head back, trying to free a crick in his neck.

Fiona, she seemed nice, and had a confidence in her eyes, he had noticed that almost immediately. But at the same time there was a fear behind that confidence. She already knew her power, it was pretty obvious, Telepaths had this silly habit of making faces when they used their power, and Fiona was no exception. She was afraid of people finding out about her power . . . and he could sympathize with that quite well.

Slacks fell to the carpet, revealing slender, hairless legs, pale skin stopped at the top of his thigh by a pair of gray boxer-briefs.

Katlin, he didn’t know much about her. Not many did, it seemed, she didn’t even have a last name. He wasn’t sure whether she was unsure of herself or just shy. He would have to wait to see if she would open up first before he could form a decent opinion about her.

Fingers grabbed at the helm of his white shirt and tugged up slowly, smelling himself in the fabric as it passed over his nose, brushing his lips.

Shane. Shane was . . . beautiful. There was not really any other way to describe him, he just was. Just the way he snapped at everyone, he was so cold . . . so spiteful. He had only made contact with Gavin’s eyes once, when Ms. Gainora had introduced him, and for a second his heart, his stupid, pathetic heart, fluttered. As if Shane was . . . as if Shane would ever like him, that was just stupid.

Gavin let the shirt fall from his fingers, noticing the large mirror over his dresser, seeing the large night shirt resting on the surface, letting his fingers play with the collar a bit.

Betsy, she had glared at him. It was obvious what she thought when she looked at him. She thought he was disgusting, a freak. She hated him.

He was a freak.

Sad eyes looked into equally tragic ones, pale flesh glistening with just a slight sheen of sweat from under the lights. Gavin slipped the oversized shirt on over his head, covering his nearly bare form. Despite the sweat, the shirt seemed drape on Gavin, looking as if any second it would just fall back off of its own accord.

Long fingers combed through the sea of short, blond locks. They always seemed to stand up, it was just Gavin's preference to gel them into neater spikes then to just look like he always had a constant case of bed-head. His hair, just another thing Gavin hated about himself. Bias eyes looked over his body, swimming in the nightshirt, and his gaze darkened. He was too tall, almost lanky, if it wasn't for the muscle that seemed like it didn't belong on his bones. His fingers were too long (his toes too), and his fingernails were always white and bit too curved. Despite his muscle, his bones seemed to almost jut out (probably from his lack of body fat), making his body seem like an endless plain of unwelcome curved, sudden points, and too-pale flesh.

And his face . . . his face was like his body, a bit strangely muscled, but too sharp. His chin was nearly a point, his cheeks very sharp against his face. His eyebrows matched his hair, a too light blond that almost seems white, colorless, lifeless. Ears that came up in a slight, almost unnoticeable point, and teeth that were carved sharp, with long canines. And his eyes, in his mind, his most vile feature. Almost sad, almost looking like he was about to cry, but the color didn't suit the shape, his eyes may look sad, but the color made him seem fierce, dangerous . . .a monster. Yellow with just a hint of green, and red veins, so outstanding against the pale background of white and yellows.

He couldn't help himself, he growled at himself. He felt the sudden and familiar urge to smash his hand into the mirror, but as always, the feeling faded and usual depression eclipsed him again.

This was all a mistake, taking this job, coming here. He kept telling himself it was for the money, to help him succeed, but he could lie to himself all he wanted, he knew he wanted the opportunity to be around people again, to pretend they might accept him.

They hated him, though, Gavin was already sure of it.

The room becomes deadly quiet since Betsy was gone, Fi is always on her laptop with busy fingers pounding on the key nonstop. Katlin just sit and watch as this countinue on for a few hours. With nothing in common, the two girls just don't know what to talk about. Finally Katlin decides to break the ice.

Katlin: So Fi what are you doing a research on?

Fi pushes the glass up onto her nose bridge and answers Katlin without turning around.

Fi: I am doing some research on this place... but so far no luck. It's like the background and history to this academy don't exist. : :sigh: :

Katlin: We have been here for a few days now and we have to head to the training room in 3 hours. I was thinking if you want to explore the garden with me. I hear it houses many exotic plants.

All of a sudden Fi turns toward Katlin

Fi: Sorry Katlin... would love to but the more top secret things are... the more my brain starts doing it's own background check... hehe it's not easy being a telepath.

Katlin: Why not use your ability to mind scan the area?

Fi: My power is at its developing stage and at the moment I really need to be in the same room with a person inorder for me to be able to probe.

Katlin starts to wonder about what Fi just said.

Katlin: Oh! We were in the same room with Ms.Gainora and Gavin...

Fi shakes her head.

Fi: I wasn't able to even make a connection with them... stronger forces are at work here. This place is probably loaded with other beings with greater powers than we can even imagine.

Katlin: Well you continue your research... I'm gonna go say hi to the guys since we havent seen them since the first day.

Fi didn't respond. She didn't even notice Katlin left as her eyes brighten and fingers still pounding onto the keys.

Eyes focused solely on the object before him, the shining metal that was clutched in his fingers, turning his knuckles white with pressure. There would be no failure this time, no accepting mistakes, only victory. He would ascend from being mere flesh, blood, and bone and become something greater, something incredible. He would be an unstoppable force.

“Be steel!”

Shane rolled his eyes and sighed, peeking his head in from the bathroom, a towel still drying his wet locks. There stood Kenneth, a look of fierce concentration at a metal spoon he was gripping to death in his hand. It had been three days since the strange, and kind of lackluster ‘Mr. Seek’ had spent the afternoon identifying their powers. Kenneth apparently was a Morpher, able to change his genetic structure to any mass he had physical contact with, thus the yelling at the spoon. Shane, on the other hand, was a Dissolver, able to reduce his body into a state of gas. Of course, as of yet, neither of them had been able to use these supposed abilities.

Shane shook his head, “Kenneth, first of all, I think that spoon is tin, not steel,” Kenneth just took a long look at the spoon, but Shane continued, “and second, that Seek guy said we probably wouldn’t be able to tap into our powers until training-which, may I add, you should be preparing for.”

“I am preparing for it,” Kenneth said, putting the spoon on the table, “I want to be prepared in how my powers will work, so I can adjust to them.”

“No one expects you to master your powers the first day, y’know,” Shane stated evenly.

“I know that, but that doesn’t mean I try.”

Shane just shrugged, he had to respect the guy, even if he did opt to spending his free time trying to command dinnerware. At least he wasn’t obsessing about the whole Gavin comment like he had done the first day.

“How much longer before we head down to the training room?” Kenneth yelled through the wall as Shane chucked his towel at the hamper, missing of course.

“I think about 2 hours,” Shane answered, pulling a green tank over his chest, “but I was thinking of heading down there early . . . try and get an idea what’s in store for us.”

“You sure you’re allowed to do that?”

“Please, Kenneth, we may be ‘enrolled’ in this school, but we aren’t slaves. We’re free to do what we want until we’re needed in the training room, and I just so happen want to check out said training room myself,” Shane emerged from the bathroom, hair ragged a bit, he didn’t feel like styling it just to sweat it all out in training.

This time Kenneth just shrugged, eyeballing his spoon again for s moment, “guess its your choice.”

Shane just rolled his eyes, Kenneth was an ok guy most of the time, but he was way too uptight, it was obvious he had grown up with the whole ‘nose to the grindstone’ mindset, which was fine, except he used it with any and everything he did. Mumbling a goodbye Shane left to wander the halls, but before he completely left earshot he heard behind him:

“Be tin!”

As Shane opens the door to exit a slender girl with blued hair is just standing their with big doey
eyes.

Shane: Why Katlin what are you doing here?

Katlin begins to stutter.

Katlin: I uh uh... just wanted to drop by to see how you guys are doing... hehe.

Shane: Well Kenneth is in there and we shouldnt keep Ms.Gainora and the new person she's going to introduce us to waiting any longer.

Katlin: Right... yeah right, I should head go get the girls and Betsy is probably asleep still. See you there Kenneth!

She calls out without seeing him.

Kennth: Hello Katlin?

Kenneth heads out the door to see Katlin moving quickly into the hallway.

Kenneth: What was she doing here? And wow she sure moves fast. ::scratch his head in confusion::

Shane: I think she likes you Kenneth. : :smirk: :

Kenneth: GET OUT OF HERE! ::starts cracking up in laughter::

Shane: What is so funny dude?

Kenneth: Well do you notice that she's always jittery around you? :;raises an eyebrow::

Shane: What... I thought she was just shy around all guys...

Kenneth: No no... I think she has a crush on you. ::smirks::

Shane: Ok I'm not gonna have this convo with you anymore gonna go jog for a few mins before heading to the training hall.

Kenneth shrugs and return to his room and finish getting ready.

::As Katlin heads to the female quarter of the mansion.::

Katlin: What is happening to me... I'm flushed red... ::slaps herself:: Katlin now it's not the time.

With Betsy and Megumi.

Betsy: See this closet Megumi... it's all mine you can use tha drawer right there. : :p oints to a drawer between the two beds.::

Megumi: Oh... what a tiny drawer. ::just stood in front of the drawer and pulls out a drawer slowly.::

Betsy: Oh if you touch any of my clothings... you're dead... ::talks under her breath:: Not like you have the body to fill them up anyway.

Megumi: Excuse me?

Betsy: Nevermind. : :p ulls out a skimpy skirt held it up against her hips while staring into the full lenght mirror.:: What do yout hink of this skirt?

Megumi: Isn't it a little too short for a training session?

Betsy: Don't be silly you. That old man who is gonna train us is probably some old geezer that has never seen another woman in his life... I'll do some flirting and maybe he'll go easy on me Ha. I mean I don't want to get callouse or anything. ::lifts her palm up and stares at her manicure.::

Katlin enters the room

Katlin: How are you two getting along?

Betsy runs over to Megumi and wraps her arm around Megumi's neck.

Betsy: It's like we're seperated at birth!
:  :

Megumi just fake a smile and still confuse about what is going on.

Katlin: K lets head to the training hall.

‘The sun feels nice’ Gavin thought to himself as he flipped the page in his book. The sun was shining down on him, but the breeze kept it from becoming too hot. He was sure his bare arms and neck would turn pink later today, having chosen to wear a tank top to attend the training in. He would be in charge of a lot of the hands-on work, as well as demonstrating many of the other training exercises. That was ok, he had already gone through them a few times, of course, for him they really were too easy, but then he had been a mutant for a few years now. Most of the ‘others’ hadn’t even come into their powers yet, let alone had any sort of training probably beyond having to find the T.V. remote.

Gavin couldn’t help himself at his little inward joke and snickered.

“Funny book, huh?”

The voice came out of nowhere and made Gavin jump on the stoop he was sitting on. Looking up with wide eyes he saw a young man of medium height with brown hair, usually done up in spikes, sitting flat against his head.

“It’s interesting,” Gavin replied softly, trying not to be rude.

Suddenly Shane was about five inches from his face, and Gavin couldn’t help but regain the look on shock he had when Shane had first startled him. “Wha-what are you doing?!”

“Your eyes,” Shane replied nonchalantly.

“Yes, I have eyes. Most people do nowadays.”

“They’re yellow,” Shane explained, and Gavin couldn’t help but sigh inwardly. Trying to shield himself from Shane, Gavin raised the book in front of his face. But Shane just lowered it again with the tip of his index finger. “They aren’t bad, they are just . . . different.”

“I am different,” Gavin said flatly.

“I’m sure you are,” Shane replied, straightening himself up, stretching his arms above his head. Gavin his to turn his head down, less he be caught watching the youth. “So, you’re not going to the training hall?”

“What makes you say that?”

“Well, you’re here, reading a book, and we have to be at the training hall in twenty minutes. I’d just expect, if you were going to participate, that you’d have been there by now.”

“I will get there in time, its not a far walk,” Gavin started back on the top of his page, having lost his place.

“If you left now maybe,” Shane seemed insistent on striking some sort of conversation, “but you look quite comfortable there. You’ll have to end up running to make it there in time.”

‘What is he up to?’ Gavin thought as he looked up from his book, again losing his place, “I have no problem with running.”

“You don’t really seem like the running type.”

“I don’t?” Gavin asked, now he was starting to get interested. “Well I suppose appearances can be deceiving.”

“Oh?” Shane raised an eyebrow, “You a good runner?”

“You could say that.”

“Think you’re faster than me?” Shane grinned, he was baiting Gavin, but Gavin didn’t mind being baited, so he just smiled back.

“Probably.”

“Then lets race,” Gavin again had that look of shock on his face, but Sane continued anyway, “I mean it, lets have a little race to the training hall. If I win, you gotta take it easy on me during training.” Shane’s grin somewhere along the way had turned a bit sinister, but Gavin just shrugged and stood up, leaving his book on the stoop. He would come back for it later, given it didn’t rain.

“What if I win?”

“What do you want?

Gavin looked thoughtful for a moment, thinking it over. Before he even realized it, he said softly, “I want something special.” Gavin’s eyes widened and he looked over at Shane and stuttered, “W-what I mean . . .”

“Something special, huh?” Shane smirked, Gavin still had that ‘deer caught in headlights look’ that Shane was starting to guess was a constant for him. “I can do that. So, should we take it around the school? I think the path there runs right up to the training hall.”

“Y-yes, it does,” Gavin said, still a bit in shock. Why had he said that out loud? And what did Shane mean he could do that?

Shane had already taken a runner’s stance, and looked up at Gavin as he followed, his eyes still off somewhere else. “Wanna count it down?”

“S-sure.” Gavin nodded, and stretched his leg back. “Ready . . . set . . . go!”

Shane barely heard the ‘go’ as Gavin rushed out ahead, his steps wide and relaxed, his body being carried at an incredible speed. (and still looking as if it wasn’t even close to its limit) It was Shane’s turn to sport the ‘deer in headlights’ look as he cried out.

“Bastard! Wait for me!” And at that, Shane broke out into a run, then into a full sprint, still too far behind Gavin’s disappearing form.

The group arrives at the training hall cept Shane.

"So Shane isn't here yet?", Kenneth wonders. He turns to look at Gavin assuming he knows the reason why.

"He should be here soon", Gavin replies.

Ms Gainora enters the training hall with Mr. Seek. "Ok now that you all know your latent abilities, I will run some individual tests to allow you abilities to manifest itself slowly" she said. "Any first volunteer?" She glances at everybody, but no reply. "I hate to do this, but I will have to pick out someone randomly."

Betsy turns to the girls and whisper, "God I hope I go last..."

"Betsy", said Ms Gainora in a stern voice.

"Rats", Betsy utters under her breath as she moves
to the center of the room.

The entire room is dead silent with only Ms.Gainora's voice echoing the huge hall. "Now Betsy your latent ability is to manipulate the very fabric of time. Once you realizes your true potential you could become a very powerful mutant".

Betsy rolls her eyes and utters under her breath, "wow powerful mutant... I could take over the world".

Ms. Gainora just stare at her in annoyance. "Now Betsy I will test your ability to freeze projectile that comes at you in full speed, so be alert".

"What!??!?!?", Betsy yells out in a loud tone. "Is this a training hall or a torture hall!?" Before she notices it a fast moving speed ball flies right by her, but luckily she manages to duck in time.

"I demand you to stop this now!", Betsy shout. Before Ms. Gainora could answer, another speed ball hits Betsy right on the back knocking her down.

Betsy rose slowly with legs trembling as she tries to get up with the sharp pain in her back.

"Child this is a training hall and that is what I'll make you do", Ms.Gainora said in a cold montonous remark. "Now here comes another one!"

This time two speed balls moving opposite direction toward Betsy comes flying in super speed. "Enough!", Betsy shouts as she flails both of her arms toward each balls.

The entire group look in shock expecting Betsy to hit the cold marble floor fast and hard, but to their dismay Betsy manages to freeze the two balls
in place.

Betsy starts to pants with both arms still up in air maintaining the two balls in suspended animation. "Are you happy... now... Ms. Gainora?"
, she questions in a sarcastic tone. At this point Betsy knows that she hates Ms.Gainora with a passion.

"Ok Betsy you have demonstrated that you are able to use your powers in a stressful situation, but you still aren't able to conjure it at will. Enough for now next up is... Kenneth", Ms. Gainora says as she turns toward him.

All of a sudden a loud door slam can be heard as the group turns toward Shane entering the hall. "I'm so sorry I got side tracked", Shane says as he turns toward Gavin.

Ms. Gainora looks at him in dissapointment and says "Young man each of our once a week meeting is very important, so you shall be punished next time you are late, now stand aside with the rest of the group."

Shane walks toward the group as Kenneth walks to the center of the room nervously and not sure what
Ms.Gainora will do with him.
