Well it's Saturday here, late morning and I'm about to leave the house for the day. I wish I was further along at this point but all I have is a tonne of notes right now. It seems turning them into a coherent post explaining my thoughts and reasons for my scores will take a bit more time than I thought.

So what I'm saying is that I'm pushing my post back 24 hours. If that leaves me face down in an alley somewhere with one of MM's knives in my back then so be it. :D

Well, you didn't demand me to hold you to it with knives, so you're safe, Valentine.

Although if it turns into another mega wait, I will do silly things in an attempt to not be stuck in limbo twice.

It shouldn't. I'm home (for now) and should be able to get done before the end of the night, so yeah. No promises this time, though, because I hate breaking them.

^^'Course I never said I wouldn't if he didn't demand it.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not being impatient, I just happen to like throwing knives at people (especially Galefore), that's all.

Allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllrighty, here I am! And ahead of Galefore too!

These write-ups are taking a lot longer than I'd have thought so this is only the first three battles. The other three will come tomorrow.

Ok a quick overview on how I made my judgements. First I split the topic into their individual battles (thanks for the separators Rep :D ), then I went through each battle one at a time, making notes along the way. Now I'm converting those notes into something readable by all.

Loot vs Mushi
----------------------

One of the shortest battles discounting the ones that never took place, this nevertheless to me had the best banter thanks to Mushi's insane potty mouth.

Loot: You set up your character and the battlefield nicely. Having civilians around makes for interesting situations if they get involved in the battle, although in this case they never got a chance. Your first attack was pretty basic which would normally be fine, but this being the TRL, you need to be more vicious. Your second was better but needed more description. A broken wood shaft to the eye? Where were the popped lenses, torn irises and tears of blood?

Good writing but moderate attacks lacking any punch: 5

Mushi: I liked your opening. You expanded on Loots battlefield nicely as well as a nice opening dropkick. I lol'd. Then you.. intentionally cut yourself in half? You don't often see major damage like that being dealt in your own post but you described it well. The old 'attack at the end of the post and let my opponent decide what happened' way of writing, again while fine in a normal battle, doesn't work in the TRL. This tournament is about violence and I want to see you doing the damage in your own posts.

Good writing and dialogue, simple attacks and nice description of slicing someone in two (even although it was yourself): 7

A Traveller vs Tazy
----------------------

Seemed to be a pretty one-sided affair but I can't help feeling that AT's character's lack of exploit-ability made for a tough match.

Tazy: Intro's fine but your first attack seemed quite lame. Fire is fine vs humans, lots of burning flesh etc but seemed pretty underwhelming against a golem, even if it was eating away at him. After that AT roughed you up pretty bad and I was looking forward to your response. It started off well, slicing parts off cleanly, and you should've followed on from there but your post just ended. This is the TRL, I wanted to see you pound that golem into dust!

Promising but ultimately disappointing attacks: 4

AT: Excellent intro and decent first attack, it's a shame fancy writing doesn't get you a lot of points in this tournament. Your next attack, now this is what the tournament is all about! You sliced him and diced him; smashed and bashed him. It was all quite wonderful, the only thing I found it hard to imagine was a golem sliding down faster than a boulder hurtling along at full speed.

Posts a joy to read but more importantly, delivered a serious attack: 8

Zaidon vs Vapor
----------------------

A hectic fight that although quite short, left both participants banged up good.

Zaidon: Didn't quite understand the fusion part but other than that I got everything I needed to know about you char from your first post, nice. Brick throwing, fine as a lead up to an attack but wait, you stopped your post just as you were about to attack? I'm not too happy with you pushing your attack on into Vapor's post. Firstly, it restricts what Vapor has to write in his next post and secondly, this tournament is about your attacks. You need to write them yourself if you want to win.

Your next attack you wrote very well, a lot happened but not all of it to Vapor which was nice. Taking a bit of damage yourself in you own posts is always good to keep the flow of the battle. You bashed him good although in my head a laser shooting robot would pwn a Spartan any day. An then you flew. Crashing Vapor through all those towers, hurting him while demolishing the place was satisfying and you finished the battle off nicely at the end of your post.

Clear writing style and two good attacks a nice score makes: 8

Vapor: Chainswords remind me on Warhammer 40K, never a bad thing. Can't wait for it to start tearing someone up! Is Oceansford in the Marvel universe? We had Captain America and now we have Cyclops! Could've done more with your first attack though. You described your next one nicely and bashed Zaidon up good, but you incapacitated yourself too much and I really wanted more. Sure Zaidon lost an arm to the chainsword, but it was in his post!

Decent writing and attacks but not as good as I was expecting: 6

Working on this as best as I can. Gotta pick up college books tomorrow and then I have a band meeting later on in the day, so ideally I want to have half of the judgments up some time tonight and the other half tomorrow.

Judging post 2/2

MetalMan vs Repster
-------------------------------

The most vicious battle of the first round with both contestants getting stuck right in, though I'm surprised you both managed to have any sort of battle at all with two huge ego's filling all available space.

MM: You're a guy that doesn't mess about. A nasty first attack quickly followed by an Aidan barbecue, nice. Your third attack post was really written well. I enjoyed reading what happened including the cool transformation. I'm not sure about your Fire's of Time attack though. It seemed a little overpowered to me. Having said that your whole final attack seemed a bit lacking. I mean, if one attack is good, three should be even better! But somehow the combination of them didn't satisfy me. Maybe it was too much, maybe it was because it never actually hit Rep as his next post never came. I don't know.

Hard hitting and vicious with creative attacks: 8

Rep: Superheating a robots joint to immobilize it? Sounds a lot like another attack in this tournament. I think you have a groupie Rep. Your posts are positively littered with spelling mistakes but in this tourney stuff like that is brushed aside with no harm done. Not much to your second attack but I can see you're building to something. Nice regeneration too. I like how you mentioned that your new form was weaker, it keeps things interesting. I also really like how you turned MetalMan's transformation against him, crushing his chest like that. Followed up with the culmination of your build up, exploding parts of MM, it was a sweet post.

Solid damage sprinkled with smart moves: 7

Inferno vs Repster
-------------------------------

This battle contained a lot of "who's doing what now?". Having never watched DBZ I think I'm missing some useful information.

Inferno: Dragon character, so we fight on a volcano! That's what I would do, you're playing to your own strengths after all, but I hoped it wouldn't stunt your ideas for attacks. Insta-teleporting irks me a bit at least you got the battle off to a vicious start. Your next attack was basic but you took a few sentences to describe it and that really helps the reader. Just disintegrating the chains and magicing your eyes better is fine to continue the battle but your guy is starting to seem a bit cheesy. But then you made Aidan pissed by removing his booze! Nice...

But then, urgh. Rep took time to put you in a compromising position and to beat it, you do another cheesy teleport. Stuff like that takes very little imagination and becomes quite dull for the people reading it after a while. I liked your last attack however. The pillars idea was cool, it reminded my brain of Metroid Prime where you fight Meta-Ridley. Plus you did some decently imaginative stuff, with a random lighting bolt for good measure.

Ragdolled Aidan nicely but the attacks weren't imaginative enough for a higher score: 6

Rep: So, Aidan has a twin? Or he can be in two places at once? Whatever the reason, double the Aidan ain't a bad thing. Nice imaginative blinding move at the start, followed by an even more imaginative attack! I was picturing the look on Inferno's face a split second before you ripped the magma from his body and enjoyed it very much. Restricting Infernos wings so you both splashed into the magma was cool, then turning his attack on its head was another great move. Too bad you got blasted anyway. But in retaliation, man. Tearing his feet of like that was stellar! Definately in keeping with this tournament.

Endlessly creative attacks that just kept coming. Remind me never to fight Repster: 9

X-3 vs Guildmaster
-------------------------------

A nice setting keeps this battle less fantastical than the others which is no bad thing.

GM: The chef is in! Nice character but how he used a frying pan and butcher knife to make a massive cake is anyones guess. Too bad he didn't last long. Interesting transformation but I think I would've enjoyed if the chef was there for the whole battle. Just my opinion. You did however, pull of my favourite attack of the first round. First you weakened X-3's arm, then his shoulder before the pay off. Man. There have been other attacks in this round that have been more fierce, more bloody, but you just described it so damn well. It was really vesceral, and describing the blood vessels like boiled noodles was perfect.

Next up was some regeneration, but you took on a weaker form, always good. This attack didn't do it for me though. Maybe it was the formidable size of the paragraph (ahh!) but it was probably trying to imagine a black creature with a legspike impaled into somes forearm. It just seemed odd to me. I like you bringing in the side characters. It made this battle a tad more interesting but really they could've been cut out and the battle wouldn't have been much different.

Good attacks and good descriptions. A solid round for you: 7

X-3: Another interesting character with different attacks to bring to the game kept this battle pretty cool. Though having said that, it really was only one attack throughout, the claws! I liked how you infused them with blood but there needed to be a bit more variety to satisfy me. The fact that you kept going without getting your arms back was noble but it probably hindered your ideas for new attacks, leaving you with no choice but to finish with a simple kick.

Interesting character but needed more variety in attacks: 5

------------------------------------

Aaaaaaand we're done! A quick shoutout to Scripture and Luigiman who've cruised on into the next round; I look forward to your posts, just make sure and make them violent!

Man, judging this is way tougher than I thought and super time consuming. Next round is going to be sweet though, less battles plus I can take notes while the battles are going on rather than after closing time.

Now all we have to do is wait for Gale to post to see who will be making it through to the next round!

:yay:

I won my first tournament battle!

Thanks again for the battle, Vapor. I think I did good on my first, third, and fourth battle posts, but I feel like I might have cheated you with the lack of replies. If only I could've found more time during busy July...

Great style, I'll rematch you anytime.

In all honesty, the third isn't really needed, anyway. Not unless they're sufficiently different from the first or second one, and in my experience, that isn't usually the case.

...

Either that or in the rare case a tiebreaker is needed.

Yeah, the third was just around to balance out the whole "adding this **** up" thing, because a lot of judges used decimals and it looked pretty snazzy to add all of that into one number as a final score. Hell, one judge would be enough, but generally the third is just there to balance out the other two in the case that there's this drastic difference in opinion. In tournaments like this, there's usually a general consensus as to who won what. However, in later rounds the line between winner and loser begins to draw a little closer, so I think I'll definitely be getting somebody to do the third judge thing by at least round three. For now, we have what we need.
