I'm surprised we don't have a third judge yet. So many great judges of yore just hanging around VGF, and none have signed up. Although, most of them are extremely busy...
But the combatant spots should fill up within the next couple of days. Tourney's like this draw some big names to just sort of pop up out of nowhere.

^^The rules of combat in the NLBFT are the same as the usual Gunjin rules. Check the rules topic that's stickied at the top of the forum, and there be your answers.
As to 'what order the fights take place', they all happen at once, and in one topic. I'll set a date for when I call time and, whether the battle is 'finished' or not, it stops there and we judge it, usually on a scale of 1 to 10 (sometimes specific to the decimal point). The person whose cumulative (not average) score is highest wins the fight.

It's kept to divisions. Typically I randomize the battles by, say, drawing names out of a hat or whatever method is necessary to create a randomized battle. I think the first time I ran the NLBFT, one of the judges did the randomization, and after that one I did it. Since I'm a judge this year, that responsibility will fall to me once again, I'm sure.

^I think the reason we've always done three is because it allows differing opinions without causing too much concern for ties or gross score differences. As well, 30 is a good, round number, and 3 scores of ten is a little more solid in figuring up a fair winner.
In fact, after getting nostalgic and rereading my horrid performances from previous years, I was considering dropping the judge's seat and filling in that last Beta spot myself. Probably won't, but it's on my mind.

They're all the same. The eventual winner of Alpha will face the winner of Beta in the finals. Furhtermore, most people's questions will be covered at nauseum at the outset of round one. I know there's lots of new people this time around but let's get the spots filled up in this topic. There is always a separate discussion topic for teh tourney where people can ask whatever they want.

Define "Crippling" as I take it the the Red Lions event is more brutel then the NLBFT. However I don't see why even in a less bloodthirsty event why it would be frowned on to impied your foes ability to retailte.
