Crono and Cyrus weren't rivals though. Cyrus NEVER had a rival. Crono's closest thing to a rival is probably Yakra. -CSM

But Tidus and his dad aren't either. The rules, as we've both witnessed, aren't definite hero/villain rivals.

This also makes a good excuse for Cyrus to be in some form, playable.

Oh please like Square cares about any of thier fans, even if they did the number of fans that they would activly favor would be the ones in thier homeland of the way they released supplamentery materils/games in both the FF and KH is any indecation.

Also why so diehard about playing Cyrus? He had what all of 10 lines for character development if that? Granted i'm not much better as I'd love to see gen leo back in action again, though he atleast was breifly playible and got to go out in true hero fashion while also elping to cement Kefka's status as an ******* of truely grand calibur. (I mean really how many villains actuly get to meeet thier goals to the extent he did?)

Flint and Salsa in Mother 3 both spring to mind. I also really like all of FF4's cast. I was very excited when FF4 GBA let me use all of them. It's my favorite version of the game because of this.
Fun Fact: Leo has the best base stats of any character in FF6. Banon has the worst.

Magus would like a word with you. As for Crono's "rival," the closest I can think of is Dalton.

Cyrus should have been a playable character from the start. A character doesn't rely on lines alone, but actions. Crono dying in battle against Lavos said more about him than most of the characters even mentioned in this topic IMO.

NIRVANA STRIKE

But hey, I'd be happy if they put ANY combo of CT guys in it.

Also, I liked Leo too. He had honor.

i'll admit that lines arn't what matter, yet Cyrus has more of an impact on the storyline BECAUSE he's dead his death was a key part of what made Frog who he was. The events of Cyrus and Frog's attack on Magus is while not overly important but still a vital part of the storyline both for the three involved and for the story as a whole.

Add in the fact that having both playible would make one or the other useless, witch is probly why Square chose not to make both playible too many character can really futs up a storyline much as I love the size of the cast in FFVI/6 some could have been left out without much an impact on the story as a whole.

Leo indeed had honor, and the ability to get to know him abit both inside and outside of battle just added that much more dramatic punch to his death at kefka's hands. I don't know about your or anyone else but on my first playthrough of the game I was really ready to introduce Kefka to the reaper after that part of the story. Then Kefka the brillint loon that he is managed to top that atrocity by bringed about the end of the world!(Yes I know I'm rambling a bit, also considering that this topic has a spoiler warning I'm not got to mess with the tags.)

What I mean is that Cyrus should have been playable in his time; make an entire playable memory of those events that transpired. Cyrus meeting Glenn, becoming a knight, battling the Frog King and hunting down Magus. It should have played out like Cloud's flashbacks.

Kefka never seemed menacing to me; the only time he concerned me was when he killed the Emperor. That caught my attention.

Ah, I can see how that might be intresting (not really needed though a hell of a bonus) Not needed because while it would be great to play as him and we would get a better feel of both him and frog because of this it would just eat up time and could be considered padding.

I'm kinda surprised that Kefka never got to you considering all he's done, I'll even list it for you.

1 Mind controll (To such a degree that not only did she lose most of her memories but the ability to make desicions on her own once freed.)
2 pointless slaughter of his own men (buy use of one of terra via mind controll).
3 Burning an aillied nation's capitol city on a hunch.
4 the poisning of doma's water supply thus leading to a near total genicide of said nation and killing some of his men that had been captured durring the seige.
5 invading a nutrall city and intending to sluaghter all within including helpless non-combatents.
6 Truely expert manipulation of the heros, Magictech factory and the saeled gate.
7 Violation of a peace treaty( raid on Thasma) and murder of a comrad again (Leo)
8 Killing Gesthal, and awakening the aring triad.
9 Picking off rando town with a death ray for kicks.
10 attempting to destroy all reality as a "monument to non existence"

None of the above affected you untill number 8? And I thought I was a cold hearted cycnic.

Haha, well, ten strikes me. I must have never got there yet.

But eight hit me because I seen Kefka as a bumbling psycho, then when he killed who I thought was the main villain, his own boss, I knew that character was truly mad.

The rest are expected evil. It takes a lot to get me to care at all about an act of evil.

And yeah, the Cyrus extras could be seen as padding but it would enhance the meaning of his death. I am waiting for a CT remake, a perfect modernization of what is a classic. I wanna see Glenn's horrified look in 3D as Cyrus roasts. Yup yup.

Ten is part of his truely grant rant just before he faces the heros for the last time at his tower. I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy his final rant as he mocks the heros with a very famus line. I think you might have missed it but his backstory implies that he was once a great genirel before he volenteered for Cid's exparimental magictech infusion witch wraped his mind, or broke his brain depends on weather or not you like the sound of it.

Oh yes a good 3D remake (and I mean full 3D like RE Chain of memories) of Square's SNES RPGs would be truely excilent if you ask me. I'd snap up FFIV/4 FFVI/6 and CT if they did that.

Actually, I did get that little bit of his backstory.

FF4 DS isn't 3D?

I don't have a DS so I don't know,(plus I've never been able to play an RPG on the handhelds the screen's too small for me to read the text got to love my GB player.) but you've played Chain of Memories Remic right? It's on the same level of graphics as KH2.

^ I wish I played the remake. I only played the GBA one.

If ya can't see handhelds, I suggest playing PSP. Big screen.

Again about CoM: why did they remake that newer game of all games? Their decision making process must be made by monkeys.

I'm glad they remade COM because I didn't know about it when it first came out on the GBA so when I got my copy of KH2 I was very confused for my first play through. you should be able to track down Remix COM as it came out on the PS2 December 08.

Speaking of the KH games i know you needed a partner in Atlantica in KH but something about Ariel in combat just seems odd but that could just be me. though I must say Aladdin and Peter Pan were great to have in battle hee hee I loved flying.

Yeah, Aerial is a nono. Aladdin is okay but Cap Jack was better. I liked Skellington too.

Do you know anything about KH3? Too lazy to Google.

Not really no but I do know that we won't see it untill after both Birth by sleep, and 358/2 days come out.One gives the Orginasation XIII another chance to shine while explaining what roxasa was doing during the year Sora spent in deep sleep. While the other takes place ten years before KH takes place, so expect the canon storyline of the KH games to keep getting more and more complex possibly to the point where you can't make heads or tails of it.

I gotta applaud Tetsuya Nomura and other writers for Kingdom Hearts for leaving so many open holes and promises them to be filled. It's like Lemony Snicket's "A series of unfortunate events" series, except not quite as humorous, and hopefully doesn't end without giving you the answers you've read 12 books to find out. I see some chatrooms and IRC channels dedicated to talking about theories of Kingdom Hearts, and they get about as riled as people do about interpreting what some things mean in literature, or other games like Shin Megami Tensei series. Whoever does the writing for Chrono Trigger also accomplished the same.

I didnt' really have anything against Ariel joining the party in Kingdom Hearts. You know in the game, she plays the role of a "Princess" (although not that kind), but she actually is more like Estelle, and that's a GOOD thing since she's a princess who can fight back instead of get kidnapped. (Peach tends to alternate between the former and the latter) She was alright, although many of the temporary allies in Kingdom Hearts 1 had similar arsenals of attacks, and I found her a little more useful in [strike]Hell[/strike] Atlantica because her "watch-me-inflict-nearly-an-entire-health-bar-of-damage" attack was like Peter Pan's and more reliable since she'd almost always get the same amount of hits.

But one could easily argue that Cyrus and Magus are rivals as well as Frog.

Infact. Cyrus is the reason they're even rivals at all now.

Not to downplay the sheer awesomeness which is Frog, but Cyrus should be in the game. As should Crono.
