Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon

#1

Post by Sim Kid » Mon Feb 02, 2009 12:45 am

For the first time, the original Fire Emblem is being released in the U.S. and Europe, legally and remade so that we can play it after having been spoiled by all the additions of stuff like Supports and levelable healers.

it's been out in Europe since...I think December, though out here it's being released this month. I'm quite looking forward to it, especially to see an accurate translation.

It's nice to know that Fire Emblem is getting the fame it deserves.

Too bad everyone says it sucks.

I'll be over here, enjoying Dragon Quest V.

Regardless i'm sad they didn't update the games with more modern features, the pre FE 6 games had some glaring problems

Whoops.
Taking GameFAQs reviews seriously is one of the signs of having HypoCommonSense.

Considering how many people on GameFAQs wet their pants upon hearing the name "Marth", you would think there would be more people blowing up scores.

I wonder how many of them expected it to be like Radiant dawn giving you godlike units. *shrugs*

Generally it's a good idea not to judge IGN-fan reviews or gamefaqs reviews. So many of them (myself included...since I was on there when I really wasn't reviewing that well) really don't know how to write, even.

BUT the answers has actually been pretty good. o.o

One of the reviews state that Intelligent Systems has been murdering the Fire Emblem series.

Personally, strategy isn't my thing so you do whatever you want.

So anyways, a few of the common complaints are justified, but some actually are just people who've been spoiled by all the fire emblems they gave us, since back then, we didn't have all that cool things they gave us. Heck I'd get spoiled too after Radiant Dawn giving us buddies and those god units with three-tiers of promotion. And for Marcus, Seth, Titania, and Sothe actually being pretty good Jeigans (Titania is arguably the best paladin in Radiant Dawn) Jagen meanwhile, DON'T use him. He sucks balls after awhile. They know this and they even put in a house saying "Don't let Jagen do all the work!". (Ironically, I had Jagen go into the house where the person said that)

As a note, Marth can enter villages. and he's the one who usually recruits people. It's best assume you should have Marth talk to an enemy unit. If you're starting out in Normal mode, you'll get quite a bit of money and healers gain quite a bit of experience. Especially since you get the Mend and Warp Staves so early. (Warp gives a lot of experience)

But one thing I'll tell you is that while normal mode is alright (VERY good for inexperienced players), the harder difficulties are supposed to be a real challenge, and keep in mind that you're practically supposed to lose characters. In fact the only way to get the Gaiden chapters is to have less than 15 characters, and they're really supposed to give you characters since you're doing such a bad job at keeping people alive. And one of the chapters, in order to unlock, requires that you have lost a specific character and DON'T have the falchion...if I recall, you could miss the Falchion in the original version. Makes for a good self-induced challenge, though.

It's not exactly a spoiler, but you're gonna have to sacrifice one character in the prologue.

This is only really a first impression. I'm not gonna go in-depths for awhile, so far I'm gonna give this game a 7/10...but on my scale, "5" is "average", so that's "good".

Okay, FINE, I bought it. Yes, it's freaking cheesy with its story, yes it sucks about not having godly units.

BUT IT'S STILL A GREAT TACTICS GAME OKAY?

*Sob*

one thing you really gotta know with this remake is that it's, well...

...old.
