Mage worthy weapons?
Thinking about something yesturday, mages have a lot less weapons for them. I tried to list a mage weapons and come up with these.
Staff/Staves.
Books.
Dolls (FFX)
Batons/Wands
Ball and Cup (ToS)
And that's all I could think of, surely there should be more than that.

Sorcerors or other "bad" mages might use daggers or knives. A wizard or such "good" mage is more likely to use staves, rodes, canes, sticks or scepters.
A "knight mage" might use swords.
Didn't the Necromancer class from Diablo II have shrunken heads it could use as a weapon? It might have been a "shield", though. I think it was supposed to just magnify your spells or something, though.

A Knight-mage or a battlemage may use swords or some other melee weapon. Jade and Magus for example use polearms and a scythe respectively. Rarely you might see them using a bow and arrow, like Rosa.
oh yeah, speaking of Final Fantasy IV, I forgot to mention Rydia, she uses a whip when she rejoins.
A shield? Well a shield or an off-hand item can technically be anything, and I'm not gonna mention every thing they got in Guild Wars.

VARIETY
Well, in Romancing Saga, provided you're willing to spend the effort, nearly anyone can use nearly any weapon- though that doesn't *really* count so much, I guess.
In Shining Force II, one of the better mage weapons was the 'power stick', which was actually some kind of gold-plated tonfa. Some of them could also use a thing that looked like a winged potion bottle on a stick (?!), and one of the enemy mages fights with a ball-and-chain morningstar.
If you count the fact that Naruto was originally going to be a manga about a bunch of shaman (!!), then you can include basically every ninjatastic (or ninja-wieldable) weapon ever, seeing as it's been made into a positively ridiculous number of video games.
FFT had Rafa and Malak, who literally wielded bad and good luck, respectively.
It also had wossname- Rys or something? Started out as a dragon? She turned into a swort of swordmage or something, and wielded breath weapons and blades.
Grandia II's offense-mage, Millenia, wielded a crossbow, her high heels, and numerous pieces of a dead god of evil. And a fish-launcher at one point. Don't ask.
That's all that comes to mind at the moment- I'll probably be able to come up with more later.

Hmmmm....Thanks. You've all given me food for thought, but here's some reasons why I don't like these weapons for mages.
Enchanted Weapon. It just has magical properties, therefore it still can be used by anyone.
Mace,Morningstar,Knives, light swords,Clubs. Again can be used by all...well I wouldn't give a Ninja a morning star, unless he was a battlefield ninja.
Rings, Necklaces, Amults, Armbands. Fall into the Enchantments area. Therefore can be used by anyone.
Whips. MMMMMmmmmMMMmmmeh. Never fond of these. Had these down as more of a thief/Ranger weapon.
Fans. Mostly a Ninjas weapon. Fail to see how a mage would use it.
Gloves. Had these more as a Monk/Ninja/Thief sort of weapon. But I guess it could.
Scrolls are split with me. Again their mostly used for people who have nill Magical Knowledge, and tend to disappear once the spell is cast.

Well the fans was seen in Tactics Ogre. In both "Let us Cling Together" and "Knight of Lodis", fans were available as weapons but the only class who had a fan as their preferred weapon were the Sirens and in Knight of Lodis, [strike]hooker[/strike]Sorceress.
Still though, Fans actually CAN be quite the deadly weapon in the right hands.
