Vue's Wayward path (Blake)

Cheering and laughing could be heard all around the kingdom of Cair Valdune. It was the night before the priestess Vue Carche would be leaving on her pilgrimage with her guardians, and the kingdom was celebrating her safe trip and eventual return. The King had come personally and was supposed to speak, but had passed out drunk before he could make his speech, to the pleasure of everyone there, since he tended to ramble on.

Vue and her guardians were of course, the center of attention, with people coming up to her and her guardians, and toasting her or giving them offerings or items to take along on her journey (mostly keep-sakes, good luck charms and items for sacrifice to the gods).

As the night grew late, the Bishop approached Vue and motioned for her to follow him, and started to walk away the party.

You can take control of any and all of your five characters and roleplay them. The rest of your party can remain at the party if you want, or they can sneak off and spy on them, or walk with them or basically whatever you want them to do. At any time, you can have them converse with each other as well. Sometimes I'll speak for them if I want to do a longer post, but for the most part they're yours to control.

Oh and just to make sure, Huey and Gent are father and son right?

OoC: Yeah, Huey and Gent are father and son.

---

Vue saw the Bishop motion to her and fade away into the darkness. She was a bit skeptical of what exactly the Bishop wanted to tell her, for she knew the Bishop wasn't entirely fond of her training as Priestess.

When she was in her younger age of 10, she had trained as a priestess under the bishop and had intentions of becoming one of the most peaceful and serene priestess in her tribe. However, that all changed when Vue met Jade, who not only became her best friend, but also introduced her into the world of combat.

After classes with the bishop everyday, she became more and more interested in combat. She would fence with Jade often when she should have been practicing her priestess skills.

Quite fortunate she was that not only did she officially become a priestess, but her party was selected to go on this sacred mission.

"Heh, so the man wants to have a word with you huh? Why not invite him with here?" Jade chuckled. Jade constantly teased the Bishop on numerous occasions for fun which drove the Bishop nuts every time, including teaching Vue combat skills. Ultimately however, the two did get along and would miss each other's company when they parted.

"Oh, the least you can do is let him be tonight! I'm sure he has had enough of you by now." joked Vue. "I'll be right back."

Vue got up and headed towards the back of the party, where she had seen the bishop.

Blake was ready to get up until he felt an arm fall on his shoulder.

"Calm down, you're over protective at times," said Huey. "You'll have more than enough opportunity to make sure she's safe on our journey."

"I suppose you're right."

Blake sat back down and had another drink. He glanced and noted the other priestess and guardians who competed with them to get the journey. He noted the two gruff warriors looking intently at him. They had every right to be jealous, however they could not accept the fact that Blake's survival skills and Huey's navigation skills would benefit more in this journey than a couple of elite warriors.

Blake held up a mug with a drink in it.

"Cheers."

He clashed the mug with Huey's and Jade's. The three drank a little more and waited for Vue's return.

The bishop was waiting for Vue away from the crowd. He smiled as she walked up to him.

"Sorry to draw you away from everybody else, I just wanted to give you some advice and a word of warning and I didn't want to spoil the mood for everyone else. You've been like a granddaughter to me these past few years and I'm going to miss you."

His smile turns to a frown and he speaks again.

"Despite the pilgrimages that are made, its come to the attention of the clergy all over Etheria that the seals are weakening. This journey is likely going to be far more dangerous than the ones made before you when things were more peaceful. As the seals weaken things will get worse long before they get better. I want you to be careful, and keep those friends of you on your side. Do not trust anyone else too carefully.

I'd also like to give you these."

He holds out two rings in his left hand.

"Wearing one allows you to communicate mentally without regards to distance or obstacles. I wish I had one for each of your group plus myself so I could talk to you anytime, but alas, all I have are these two. I'll give you these two to make use of on your journey. I wish you the best of luck and I'll pray that you return to us after your pilgrimage."

"This is an invaluable gift my lord, I am afraid I am not worth of such a gift."

"Don't frown upon your mistakes. No one is perfect you know. In fact, I must say that kid Jade has taught you a very important lesson to protect yourself should you be separated from your guardians. That is why I chose you and your group to take this journey. Your group has sharp wits, experience in dangerous situations, and most importantly, an inseparable bond of friendship."

Vue was shocked. Despite the many mistakes she had made while training to become a priestess, the Bishop forgave her. He forgave her of all of her mistakes.

"Go now, I can't keep your group waiting any longer."

Still shocked, Vue finally spoke back up. "Thank you. For your generosity and forgiveness, I will return. That much is certain."

Vue smiled once more at the Bishop before turning away and slowly proceeding back down to a large bonfire her friends were near.

"It's getting late and the party is just about over," said Huey. "We'd best get a good night's sleep and leave relatively early tomorrow morning after one last breakfast. The more distance we cover in the daytime the safer it is for all of us."

After a few more toasts with the people of the kingdom, the group got up and waved and cheered back to the drunken and lively villagers as they headed back towards an inn that had been offered to them for free. Fortunately for them, they had the luxury of sleeping in a suite room tonight. Tonight would be a peaceful night for them, hopefully the upcoming days would remain that way.

Vue woke to the sound of someone knocking on their bedroom door. A glance out the window told her that it would be soon be dawn, but it was still dark out. None of the others had woken up from the sound, neither her Brother, or Huey, both who spent a lot of time out in the wilderness and had become light sleepers over the years. She felt a weird tension in the air, as if something was very very wrong.

Vue was quite concerned about the suspicious knocking coming from the door, especially at night time. However it was too risky to open up the door.

Instead, she opened up a drawer of their nightstand that contained the communication rings. Vue slipped one on her finger and put the other on Blake.

In her mind, she gently whispered to Blake who was still asleep.

"Blake, can you hear me? There's someone at our room door. I have a bad feeling about this. Wake up quietly if you can hear me."

Blake stirs from his sleep and looks around confused. "Vue? What is it?"

A moment later you can hear the person knocking and Blake wakes up completely alert, and then immediately gets an uncomfortable look. Vue can tell from the expression on his face he can feel the heavy atmosphere in the room too.

He mouths to Vue "What's going on?"

"There is someone at the door and I fear it is someone dangerous," she spoke telepathically to Blake.

Blake got up slowly and crept towards where his axe was laying and cautiously picked it up before speaking.

"We did not request a wake-up call, sorry to say. Let us be."

CRASH!

The rest of the group was awakened by something hitting the wall hard. A groan could be heard outside and than someone screaming and than the sound of running. Not even seconds later a second person could be heard running and the footsteps of the first person growing quieter as they got further away.

Blake and Vue's heartbeats nearly doubled. Something extremely disturbing had seemed to just occur outside their room and the two both knew they did not want to confront it. However, how much longer would they be safe in their room? The shoddy inn walls didn't seem very reliable at this point after the alarming crash of someone, or something.

Blake neared the door cautiously, shaking and shouted "Hey! What's your name out there and what do you want?!" rather tensely.

The other confused members were wide awake now. Jade jumped out of bed, racing for his equipment after seeing Blake armed with his axe.

"What's going on dad?" Gent asked his father nervously.

"I don't know, son. What was that noise?" Huey looked to Vue for answers.

"I don't know," said Vue. "I heard something knock on our door and I woke Blake up. Something very terrible is happening here; we can't stay here any longer."

"Alright, let's get our stuff and get away from here as soon as possible."

Huey glanced out the window to see it was probably around 4 AM in the morning.

"In a few hours it will be sunrise, and there is tint of light outside. We'll be able to see much better outside than in this dark room and corridor here."

While packing their equipment, either Jade of Blake watched the door cautiously should someone, or something approach their room.

"Okay, I think we're ready," Blake said. "Listen, the corridors here are narrow so we will need to move in a single file. Jade and I will be in the back and front of the pack and Vue will be in the middle. Huey and Gent, one of you will be between me and Vue while the other will be between Vue and Jade. The back members will guard for any attacks from behind and must move backwards. We will move as quickly as possible, but we will only move as fast as the group can. We can't afford to separate too far from each other. Also, be very careful of the doors while we proceed down the hallway, there may be someone waiting in ambush. Are there any questions?"

"Yeah," Jade began. "I heard some screaming and running, was that headed towards the entrance of the inn? And does anyone know any other exits to this building?"

OoC: Was the moan and scream from the same person? Was the running towards the entrance of the inn? And are there any other known exits out of the inn should I need them?

I should ask too: are we on the first floor? Usually the suite rooms are on the top floors(if the inn has more than one floor that is) if I recall so I may have set myself up for a difficult scenario, meh.

Once everyone was ready, Blake slowly reached out towards the door knob and grasped it. Right when he was about to twist the door open, his hand jolted away, trembling for but a moment.

"Wait." said Vue.

Vue's sudden voice had scared the living daylights out of Blake.

"We may be able to get out through the window. However, we are going to need to quickly gather the materials."

"Well you guys go and take a look. I ain't letting up on this door. The first person to breach this door is going to meet my blade.. in a rather informal way."

Vue, Huey, and Gent immediately ripped the covers off of their beds and begun to wrap them into a string-like substance to create knots between each of the sheets to create one long rope.

Gent quickly opened up the window and then returned to aid Huey and Vue to lift one of their beds and place it near the ends of one of the sheets wrapped into a rope to support their weight as they descended down the home made rope.

"Alright, we're all set to go," said Huey.

There was a moment of silence. None were ready for what awaited them outside.

Jade nervously shifted his eyes around the room at his partners until he finally made a decision.

"Alright, I'll go first. Blake, if you'll watch the room I'll make sure everyone gets down safely."

"Alright, sounds good," responded Blake.

Jade began the descent. As soon as Jade landed the next would be Huey, then Vue, then Gent, and finally Blake.

Jade climbed the make-shift rope safely to the ground, and than signalled to Huey that he was going to look around the front of the inn.

He dissappeared around the corner as Huey began his descent. When he reached the ground, he jumped as someone around the corner screamed. Jade ducked back around the corner, breathing rapidly.

He gasped out between breaths. "Some one... ran out of the inn, followed... by a monster-ish looking man. The second man caught up to the first guy and snapped his neck just like that.

Huey's eyes widended as someone came up right behind Jade. He stood a little over 6 feet tall, his eyes blood shot, and his face almost feral. He began reaching for Jade just as Huey shouted "Look out!" and Vue was reaching the ground.

Jade felt the dark presence right behind him, its acrid breath sending a quick jolt down his spine. He immediately rolled forward towards Huey and Vue and spun around, unsheathing his sword at the enemy.

Huey unsheathed his short sword as well and stood next to Jade as the two stood in front of Vue and prepared to engage the menacing foe.

Vue let go of the make-shift rope she was on and landed immediately. She charged up a fireball and would release it as soon as she had a clear shot.

Meanwhile on the top floor of the Inn, Gent was ready to descend when he heard his father shout "look out!" He looked out the window and saw the tall dark figure below near his group members.

"Blake! There's a monster below! What do we do?"

Blake knew he could not leave the door and that he could not order Gent to descend. The two were essentially trapped on the top floor while the others were trapped down below.

"We're trapped..." Blake muttered.

"What? NO!" Gent lashed out viciously. He ran to the edge of the window and pulled out one of his knives and raised his arm back. A moment later he flung the knife towards the cursed figure below.
