Crazy, I saw some rumors floating around but didn't even bother mentioning them here because a remake seemed so unlikely, yet here it is!
I don't remember the last time I've been so hyped for a game. Now SMRPG2 doesn't seem so impossible after all...assuming this sells adequately, of course.
If I had to nitpick I'd say I'd say the menus seem sterile compared to the original's. I'd also have kept closer to the weird, unique little chibi look the characters had, and the texture of them (they seemed almost claymation-esque). But hey, I'm not complaining.

My initial reaction about 4.5 hours in:
The new battle mechanics are fun (the timed-hit chains and triple moves), but they make the game much easier, and the original wasn't exactly a difficult game to begin with. So far I prefer the original over the remake, but I am enjoying the remake for what it is and still recommend it for new players who don't have access to the original and don't want to emulate it. For experienced players, wait until it's on sale.
The timed hits are one of the things that make Super Mario RPG one of my favorite turn-based RPGs, and I do still enjoy the humor, so those are refreshing to revisit.

I think the biggest mistake they made was adding an easy mode but no hard mode, I wonder what the odds of them adding one might be. Pretty low, I assume.

(suggestion for Nintendo company: amend this game with option of using "Y" button as a (possibly more comfortable) way of making Mario run in this game)

I've been taking my time with the remake, I've been enjoying it so far! I'm quite thankful that they added a button indicator for the Yoshi race mini-game... but my god I still hate that mini-game lmao
Still looking forward to the post-game superbosses o: (no spoilers of course)
