Incidentally, even though chess broke me, I found 'Brawl Chess' thoroughly charming. It had an endearing silly aesthetic, in a sort of cartoony 'Adventure Time'/'Fat Princess' kind of way, and the mechanics were sound. Like, my objection is to chess itself, not to 'Brawl Chess'.
It's like...a person can despise dogs with all his black sinister heart, and still think that his uncle's dog is very nice and mannerly and pretty. 'Brawl Chess' is a good girl to pet.
