FF7 definitely. I got it for Christmas and I haven't stopped playing it yet. I'm on the Huge Materia quest, just about to go to Junon, but first I wanna raise a gold chocobo (wark!) so I can go to the Materia Caves and get KotR and Vincent's waterfall and whatnot. I've got a green chocobo so far, and it's too early for the parents to get me a blue one.
FF7 has much cooler characters than any other game I've ever seen. Vincent could beat the living crap out of Shadow. Sometimes I wish you could fight with 4 characters so I wouldn't have to part from either Red XIII or Vincent, cause they're both really cool. Also, the story is great. However similar it may be to FF6, I just find it more sinister and compelling.
My second favorite is FF9, the first FF I played. I played FF6 in hopes that it would be just as good, but I was dissapointed. I just can't get myself to like the characters as much as the ones from FF7 or 9 (except for Aeris, she's a loser). I mean, which would you rather have, Vincent in his most powerful form, or Shadow in his most powerful form? Personally, I'd rather have Chaos (even though I haven't seen it yet. But I'm hearing great things about it).
