Well, duh he's not. As long as he's not the main character, he naturally won't be on screen every second of the game.

Ugh, I didn't want to have to do this, but...

Terra - Brainwashed imperial soldier; an Esper
Locke - Returner; brings Terra to the rebellion
Edgar - King of Figaro; Returner spy
Sabin - Edgar's brother; Returner
Celes - Ex-general in the Empire
Shadow - Mysterious ninja
Cyan - Knight of Doma; only survivor of Kefka's attack
Gau - Homeless boy who tags along with Sabin
Setzer - Free agent gambler
Strago - Citizen of Thamasa
Relm - Citizen of Thamasa
Mog - helps Locke protect Terra; later summoned by Ramuh
Umaro - Mog's friend
Gogo - mysterious mimic

EVERYONE, except for the secret characters and Shadow, lead the story at one point or another. That's because FF3 has a composite plot. The first group of people are Returners, but later other random characters are recruited for one reason or another. But they all still drive the story at some time. I hate Strago and Relm, but they have their places. The only people who contribute NOTHING AT ALL to the moving plot are Umaro and Gogo.

Like I said before, if you want to truly see useless characters, look at Chrono Cross. Turnip? Funguy? Who the hell cares?

Earthbound: Ness is destined to save the world; Chrono Trigger: Crono is called upon by an entity (Schala) to stop Lavos; Ocarina of Time: Zelda dreams about Link being the hero; Final Fantasy: The four heros are the heros of legend; etc etc etc

Kefka: the first victim of Magitek power. As you find out, the experiments drove him insane. He later became the Emperor's advisor. From his actions, you see how truly twisted he is (poisoning Doma, abusing Espers, ruthless actions.) Naturally, what do all men with power want? More power. His greed and insanity peak when he kills Gestahl, his boss, and moves the statues, which he knows will ruin the world. The guy's got character. Also, his actions make you hate him. For that reason alone, Kefka is one of my favorite villians of all time. I mean, damn! doesn't killing a whole kingdom and then laughing about it piss you off?

Compare him to Sephiroth, who, well, who is sealed in the Lifestream half-dead for the whole game. Umm, you never see him develop at all because he always stays dark and quiet. Even with his projections, he marches around, speaks in code, and then kills Aeris. Sad, but honestly now, is that it? I like Seffy, but he lacks Kefka's whole atmosphere.

He wasn't leading the story; he just had a major event.

Ok, maybe that counts.

"Seffy was just a 2 by 4."
"A 2 by 4 of evil."
"Still piece of wood."

Gogo is Adlai Stevenson, dammit.

... Actually, he's not. That's just one of the retarded theories running around.

I agree with everything you just said. My oppinion, however, is that some characters are more important than others.

My point on the "Chosen" thing (this is addressed mainly to Wyborn and Bolt) is that it's not much less random than FF6. Sure, the characters are "destined" to save the world. But why?

Why? We don't always know why, but the fact is that they are. FF3 characters are just thrown into a situation that starts to grow.

It starts small, but it all blows up in their faces into an epic struggle for the fate of the world.

Or something like that.

I say that FF3/6 would not be as grand, as gripping or as enthrolling if there was a true main chairicter to the game. That's something I don't like about RPG's they are limited in perspective by a main chairiter.

^ I would rather have one fully fleshed-out main character than several undeveloped characters. One of the reason that FF6 is so great is that it develops several characters.

I still don't the the I must always have ________ in my party because the game revolves around him/her/it. It limets the perspective of the game too much for my taste also while I'm not a scial guy in Real life i like the ability to connect with more then one chariter in a game that's another reason why FFVI is my fav RPG that and the story the battle system and the great tunes and vilion too. well these two posts equal my 1.3457 cents.
