travel preperations

traveling can be long and boring, whether it's a 12 hour train ride or 2 45 minutes flights with 5 hours between them, there is always some waiting in travel.

So what kind of stuff do you bring with you or do to pass the time or entertain you while traveling?

I am going to new jersey tomorrow, and there if about 11 hours of traveling from leaving town to arrival, I get headaches if I play games when moving so for those times I have downloaded half a season of game of thrones, the lego movie, and the fifth estate on my phone, and of course made sure my 3ds and vita are fully charged and have the game I most want to play in them for the hours that I am waiting around at the airport. and if for some awesome reason the airport happens to have free wifi I'll use my computer, but the chicago airport doesn't and that's the only airport I'll be at for a long time (since the others I will only be starting and ending in)

well usually I'm driving so I just load my six-CD player as best as possible

The only times I have flown, though, I mostly just played my 3DS. I also talked to a guy on my return trip about Game Boys so that was pretty neat.

(for the record I played Tetris and Metroid II)

Laptop is a must, and hopefully I can find some place to recharge it. With that, I have movies, TV shows (I always bring at least one season of something), games, discussion, information, basically enough to keep me entertained pretty much indefinitely. My next choice would be PSP since I have a bunch of games stored on the memory card. Otherwise, I might get like a book of puzzles or something at the airport gift shop, and a deck of cards is a simple way to pass the time, particularly if you have a guide of how to play different solitaire games. I remember when I flew to Europe. I even went so far as to read a book.

I'll attempt to sleep on a plane if it's a long flight, though it's tough to get comfortable. No way I'd sleep at an airport, however.

Music is important too. Oftentimes if I know I'll be traveling long distances soon I load up on new music and save listening to it for the first time until I'm travelling. Books and magazines are also really good for the short portions of the plane trip where you have to turn off your electronic devices.
and that's the waaaaaaaaaay the news goes

I can't sleep in cars, trains, or planes. I usually read and listen music to pass time.

Definitely the laptop. Also a book if I'm flying.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Yes, music as well. I'd bring my iPod.

I don't leave home without my laptop. I cannot read or play video games in cars or planes... motion sickness catches up with me. Instead I watch movies... lots and lots of movies. On long distance flights, I watch movies in languages that I cannot understand to put me to sleep. ;) I also take a crossword book with me for the time I'm in transit for short periods of time... you know, sitting at the gate for 20 minutes until they herd you all on the plane. ;)

On a train, I play video games and read. I love travelling by train best but the longest I have been on a train is 3 hours. I hope to one day do a cross-country trip on a train.

Have a great trip, thanous, and send postcards!! :D

Once went on a 13 hour train ride, they are quite a lot of fun.

Trains? Yes. But not when you are on a plane.

International flights are nice because they have free in-flight entertainment. Usually I bring my 3DS, some movies or TV shows or a (puzzle) book.

I think there's that "free internet by Boingo" which gives you 15 minutes of free internet at Chicago airport, but that's it. And get some of Garrett's Popcorn and/or Eli's Cheesecake while you're there.

Bing makes it sound like Australia is big. I was thinking getting across the country would take an hour and a half.

It lets me use their website but that's it :/ luckily somehow my data magically started working :D

And yes I must check out the cheesecake it looks good and it's only 12 gates away I'll probably check it out after my phone it's charged since getting a seat with a plug can be quite competitive around here
