Anniversaries -- How important are they?

#1

Post by The Missing Link » Thu Apr 08, 2004 1:07 am

In marriage, it's a well-believed stereotype that men are horrible about remembering anniversaries while wives struggle to find something to please their husbands. In relationships, boyfriends and girlfriends are always so excited to celebrate their year anniversaries, their four-month anniversaries, and sometimes in the extreme, their two-week anniversaries.

Just how important is the celebration of anniversaries within a relationship? Your thoughts. Discuss. Now.

I'd say they're fairly important. It's a marker of how long the couple has been together. Of course, there are the more important markers--such as being together for half a year, then the year, and then the year after that. I feel that the month markers are just there to satisfy it until the relationship reaches the year length.

Anniversaries don't always mark good events... but we'll discuss the good ones regardless.

They're important to the people concerned... and often big anniversaries are shared with others. The first year anniversary always seems to be counted down excitedly as the days draw close to it... :D

I don't really care about anniversaries in the dating context. You're dating. So what. Big whoop. Unless it's a year or half a year, even, I don't really give a damn.

Wedding anniversaries are far more important, IMO.

Like HotD said, not all anniversaries are happy. Blargh.

Important enough to "take a day off."

...

*sighs* 2 years... damn.
