No surprises that I have never driven in the snow!!

I can, but I prefer not to. The car is a Sonic, and because of its ultra lightness, we have to keep bags of salt or cat litter in the trunk when it snows, to help provide traction.

That's easy. I don't. If forced, I will, and my car handles pretty well in the snow and has good tires just in case. I'm more concerned about other people who tailgate and don't slow down because they think they can drive just like normal. I've never caused an accident, but I have been rear ended once or twice and also broke down in the middle of a freak storm and ended up just getting a cab to drop me off at a hotel because it took hours to even get half way home. I've learned now to monitor to weather because we have a couple days advance notice prior to any storm.

I see people on the roads and wonder where they have to go that's so important. Not just a handful either. I expect to see a steady stream of traffic no matter what time of day or night or how bad the storm. Some people have jobs that can't wait or something like that, but if you just have dinner plans, save them for after the storm ends.

It is a regular concern around here, though. We're getting our first noteworthy storm of the season tomorrow. At least we've gotten a bit of a break so far, but it is normally a headache for about 3 months of the year.

When I was learning to drive, my parents made sure to take me practicing in snow. And I only ever buy snow tires for my car.
As for hard ice: You don't drive on it unless you're desperate.

I gave up on snow tires and just buy good quality all seasons, though I try to avoid driving in snow at all unless absolutely necessary, so I might change my mind if I were driving on it more. Winters around here are worse than most places in the country, but overall it's pretty manageable.

Driving in the snow is simple. Drive slow. I mean you could go the extra mile and put chains on your tires.

About Ice ( particular black-ice ) You assume your on snow but it is ice, because your driving slow it gives you better chance make evasive maneuver. The only problem is that if the person behind you wants you to speed up or you feel because the person ahead of you did not crash you want to speed up. No. Driving slow with caution is the best way

Black-ice is a real deadly killer. It is simply when it rains and a cold-front comes into your area which freezes the rain while the road appears to look clear and clean it is really nothing but a sheet of ice waiting for a speeder to come by. That being said if their is a cold-front or it is cold enough ( Weather reading ) for anything to be frozen you should be aware that road is black-ice. Especially if it rained or is raining and it is cold enough for things to freeze. Black ice is one killer that is still problematic today.

No, not really. We had a freeze a couple of years ago in Houston and there were over 800 car accidents that morning. Even if I knew how, I wouldn't do it around the rest of us down here.

Good grief O'Reilly, but I want to knock some heads together.

...I mean, I understand, I do. It takes a minute for things to go from 'stock-still' to 'SWING YOU SINNERS', but they've been predicting this goldang snowstorm here in Wisconsin for the last several days, and I'll be schneed if I can see an ounce of preparation or execution. I shouldn't need three instances of 'slip and fall down on my back without dignity while everyone laughs' to get from here to the corner diner and back. We have snowplows, and gigantic mountains of salt. What in blue blazes is going on.

Ended up driving through the snow today on the way to Denton for work. Up until the last 5 miles to my hotel the roads were perfectly fine. The last 5 miles took an hour.

Everyone slowed way down and we were all slow and steady for just about that whole 5 miles. Then I exited the freeway and my tires lost traction and I got stuck at the intersection. Some Rhodes Scholar behind me didn't think to leave any room between our cars, so my boss had to get out and direct traffic around my car in a way that left me space to try to go in reverse and try to get moving again.

Incidentally, the overpass at the same intersection was apparently the point at which the road slope and icy surface combined to become unscalable. The local news seemed to be covering it from my hotel parking lot.

It snowed like three inches in the last day and a half, and the jackasses across the alley have their snowblower running. They have had it running for fifteen minutes, now. They do not have a large amount to do, and it has taken them longer to do than it took me to shovel my driveway and front walk combined. And now they're finishing it up with snow shovels anyway.

I wonder if I could get away with murdering them and blaming it on Jack Frost the Killer Snowman...

^ Maybe if there was more snow, you could hide their bodies and build him atop their snowy grave. Nobody would suspect you then, I reckon.

I have to drive in the snow sometimes and I hate it, but I know the basics of don't brake or accelerate or turn suddenly, pump your brakes, and don't turn in the opposite direction if you're sliding. I also make sure to test traction by braking suddenly at low speed (<10mph) when there's no one around and see if the car slides, like when I'm not sure if the roads have been salted yet. I'm not amazing at it or anything, there are a lot of better snow drivers than me here, but a lot of worse ones too.
