Have you been to a cemetery or graveyard for a tour? Or to visit someone who was famous?
Do you love to roam through cemeteries when you're on holiday? If so, there's a word for what you've got: "taphophilia", a love of graves and the rituals of death.

Taphophiles, also known as "gravers", are the people who pore over epitaphs, gravestones and the history of the dead — more often than not, the famous dead.
Romania's Merry Cemetery is known for its hand-carved gravestones, inscribed with funny stories about the departed.

Or do you go for personal reasons? When was the last time you visited a cemetery or graveyard?

I believe the last time was a year or so after my grandma died. She and Grandpa were interred side-by-side; my mom and I went to visit their gravesite on their wedding anniversary.

I've only been to one twice. Once was as a kid after my father died, and then sort of a second time at night around a year later but only outside the gate. So that's about 20 years now.

They're certainly unlikable places existing out of mere necessity, and I won't be going again until someone else I know dies here in town, or it's finally my turn.

I actually like graveyards in fiction though, stuff like Nightmare Before Christmas and such use them to good effect. Horror games definitely benefit from them too, there's a real spooky one in Resident Evil: Code Veronica and MediEvil's scared me when I was a kid.

Coming from a family who visits the cemetery for anniversaries/birthdays/Christmas, etc, I go often. I am fascinated by some of the very old headstones, and last year, I visited other people's family members during lockdown when they couldn't and sent them pics!!

I've been to relatives' graves, of course. But my 5th grade teacher also once took us to a cemetery near the school to do etchings of gravestones. That was kinda cool. And I played in a graveyard once at a friend's birthday party.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Arlington is a pretty nice cemetery. Went to the tomb of unknown soldier and JFK.
