University of Queensland (UQ) researchers say they have found a molecule in the venom of the Fraser Island (Kgari) funnel web spider that interrupts the "death signal" sent from the heart during a heart attack that tells the cells to die.
...The research was published in Circulation and funded by The University of Queensland, the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council, the National Heart Foundation of Australia, NSW Government and the St Vincent's Clinic Foundation.
Here's hoping that it turns into an actual viable treatment and helps people in years to come.
