I guess it probably puts lots of desserts of the list. What's in that crap anyway?

Surprisingly no. Well - first of all I'm not much of a dessert person. But even so, the desserts I have are hardly yellow (i.e. chocolate). The only yellow dessert I like off the top of my head is flan, but my mother makes that au natural. So no additives.

I honestly have no idea what exactly is in it other than it's food coloring.

Anybody else get frustrated over similar things while shopping?[/QUOTE]

Constantly.

Like ESSDEE, I am a compulsive label reader. I cannot eat lots of 'stuff' and refuse to eat some others eg. pretend sugar aka sweeteners. Even brands we normally buy need to be regularly checked to ensure that they haven't changed their ingredient list. It does not restrict my diet (well, not too much but can make it difficult for me to eat out), and as already stated, we do tonnes of cooking and baking in our place. I have an extensive collection of recipes and after my trip to LA (a stressful place to eat as labels were sometimes/often ambiguous and I just didn't eat anything that contained ingredients that I couldn't pronounce or recognise... ), I found copycat recipes for churros and clam chowder. ;)

We only buy produce grown in Australia and also only when it is in season. I also only eat some things that are organic. It's expensive but necessary to have a balanced diet.

Good luck with the cooking, IRHP... you can learn to do simple recipes and learn to substitute ingredients... but I suggest that when you decide to try your hand at baking (breads, buns, cakes, cookies, etc), read the recipe through first then measure carefully and follow the instructions exactly. You'll have more successes this way!! ;) :D

^ Ah, churros are great. Love the strawberry filled ones.

Organic is quite preferable. I don't eat it much aside from condiments, though.

Thanks, I'm a pretty bad cook (plus the cookware sucks) so it's tough. I'll find a way, I suppose.

Substitute ingredients are really hard to come by for me. I changed a few things. For example, I don't drink or use milk anymore, and replaced it with rice milk.

I can't think of (or if any exist) for others, or they tend to be expensive (chicken sausage instead of pork is $5.00 as opposed to $1.00).

Put simply, food sucks and in a way I dread eating now.

I only ever had the cinnamon sugar dipped churros. Quite delicious.

If you have a little space, learn to do some container gardening and grow some vegetables.

Cooking is a skill that can be learnt. And if you need to get cookware, try your thrift store.

Ask away for anything you wish to substitute... ESSDEE or I will endeavour to help.

It's always most difficult when you have to change your diet drastically. But I hope it will get better as you find the things you can eat. *giant hugs* :D

^^ The strawberry ones are the same but filled with a great strawberry filling. I like fruit a lot so it makes something great even better. Try it some time!

Yeah, I guess it's time to learn how to really cook. And thanks for the help, guys.

I really hate sugar replacements, they taste awful. Stuff like flavor enhancers such as MSG can make me drowsy, etc, or just make it difficult to focus, so it's important to ensure it's something you only encounter in moderation. Hate to think what it does to your internal bits, if that's the result, you know?

I'm intolerant to a few things, namely mustard. Even if I can't taste it, it can cause an upset stomach.

Food coloring can have different effects, for certain. Some can be stimulating, it's easy to see more pronounced effects in some kids rather than dinosaurs such as myself.

Mostly my body requires a diet high in protein. I don't tend to retain a lot of fat, my metabolism just won't allow it. Things have been weird since I started some new meds, though, so god only knows how that might affect me.

Look at all those acids.

Obviously eating bananas burns a hole in your jaw because I heard about acid from comic books.

Bananas are weird.

I like having one but I can never have more than one. Because then I feel horrible.
