Scary, Non-Violent Movies

#1

Post by Gumchum » Mon Feb 23, 2004 12:39 am

I know it sounds weird coming from a guy (Don't start with the stereotypes either.), but I need a scary, non-violent movie for Saturday night to watch with my girlfriend, my best friend, and his girlfriend.

I can't have slashers. This excludes A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, etc.

They've seen The Ring and The Others.

There's The Exorcist and The Shining, but those are pretty violent (though not slasher flicks).

Donnie Darko's pretty creepy. But its not what you'd call a horror movie.

If you don't mind some older ones, Signs or The Sixth Sense, while not horror per se, could be classified as chillers.

[edit: Wiseguy posted the same thing while I was typing this message... weird]

You could also try some classics, like some of the movies based on Edgar Allan Poe's work. Or have an Outer Limits/Twilight Zone marathon.

"Psycho"? The blood in that movie is just chocolate syrup.

Maybe 'Ringu' or 'The Ring'. They're both pretty scary, and neither one has any real violence. You might try 'Donnie Darko', too. Well, 'Donnie Darko' is more just spooky and atmospheric than terribly frightening, now I think of it. Still, hell of a movie.

Still freaked me out. Just the first time I heard that voice, "Wake up". I jumped. I must have watched that movie three times in one week.

Hell yeah, buddy. 'Ring 2: Electric Boogaloo'. The ghost girl and the reporter chick from the first movie return for the sequel. Their favourite hangout, a community center in a poor part of town, is in danger of being torn down and turned into a new shopping mall; they have to organise their breakdancin' buddies to raise enough money to save the community center while teaching us all an important lesson on the value of teamwork, the power of the human spirit, and the universal struggle between breakdancing and evil.
