Has Toonami become "boys only"?

BTW: I didn't like Sailor Moon any more than I liked Hamtaro. Actually, I might have liked Hamtaro more.

Only a dumbass would take an anime that was out of production in 1996 and make it Cartoon Network's cash cow for about 5 years, and even then, it isn't getting into how it took them years to get more DBZ eps, and how it took them a disgustingly long time to get GT and the original over here. Then you have cleaned up eps, cut scenes, etc etc etc.

I say the hell with it and show Robotech reruns.

Sure DBZ got pretty sucky after the Saiyan arc, sure SD Gundam is stupid, sure it's butchered. I don't really care all that much. It is geared for younger audiences which explains the cutting and editing of shows, but I think it is a great tool for helping to bring anime into the mainstream. Not there yet but it's happening.

Actually Lurch, Dragonball was licensed by FUNimation in 1995 and aired here in America for a short time (can't remember which channel). But it's ratings were terribly poor and it was canceled while FUNimation began working on the dub of DBZ.

I also find it kind strange that everyone here hates DragonBall when it was wildly popular in Japan. [img]graemlins/lol.gif[/img]

I was watching the original Dragonball in syndication in 1995. It used to air at like 6am on Saturdays.

Then again, I also used to watch Saturday Anime on the Sci-Fi Channel around the same time (showed movies: Akira, Vampire Hunter D, 2 or 3 Project A-ko's, 8-Man After, Dominion Tank Police, etc), which wasn't nearly as butchered as Toonami was/is.

I am annoyed that they are showing nothing but the DB series, but not that much. The only thing on Toonami I was watching was Yu Yu Hakusho, and we'll get the new episodes later.

Luckily, the new Toonami is geared at a slightly older demographic, something like 12-16. It also looks like it will have some good shows.
