Ok, so Jack Black is doing a really good job here. Pratt, not so much.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Black is definitely doing a better job than Pratt, I was surprised because I don't like him as an actor but his voice acting skills are obviously top notch.

I think Pratt is doing okay but his accent doesn't seem nearly thick enough. I wonder if that's his fault or just the direction they're taking.

...that's a great trailer. Like, I'm legitimately excited to go see this in theatres now, the way I wasn't planning to before (if I even saw it at all).

(senses no will to see this "film" after having had seen this video and certain other videos similar to this one; prefers "Bowser", "Mario", "Toad", and "Luigi" voices in certain animated series of cartoons named "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show", "Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3", and "Super Mario World")

I am going to burn money on a Mario movie????

I am more of a Kamek fan. The fact they are using his " old comedica man accen" from the
"Super Mario world" cartoon is what makes this worth anything to me at all.. That was the best
character in the entire series and entire series.

Then they did not decide to use the DKWinter Blast peopln and make them sound like English = FAIL.

Then they decided to pull this "Mario reintroduced" bs. Also note tht Mario's head is too big for
his eyes, and or his eyes are too small for his head. Garbage.......... Even the Mick Jagger
film was better.

Mario does not sound like Mario from the "Super Mario Super Show" ( which he should sound like.
He does not sound like the Italian Stereotype. Ironic this was literally around Columbus Day.
Mario sounds like a plain boring guy who is not special.

Then they cartoonishly showed off Luigi.....why?

Also that cut with Toad...........

FTLOGSH just make it into a blasted game. I would kiull for a nother Mario 64 but super-cleaned up
and super-classy.

Mario's design is a bit off, granted, but it's not the worst. Look back at the original design he had before it was cemented in Super Mario Bros. His Donkey Kong design, or even his Mario Bros. design (not Super Mario Brs, just regular Mario Bros) are both examples of worse Mario incarnations.

Everyone keeps harping on Pratt's Mario, I'm kind of surprised. I didn't think he was that bad, all things considered, but I seem to be in the minority.

As for Super Mario 64, I think a proper remake is inevitable. I think the Mario franchise's 40th anniversary is next year, if not counting Donkey Kong. Seems to be a likely opportunity for that kind of project. Hopefully they use the DS version as a base, it added a lot of content.

That is not fair. The original "Jump Man design he had was acceptable but he literally was deemed a villain starting with the same game. Funny because of his typical bad-guy with a mustache and not wearing a tall hat. I mean beyond that was so acceptable there was even an actual Saturday Morning Cartoon. Look up the "Saturday Morning Bumpers"

The "design" was not cemented in SMB. It was gradually changed and accepted via the manga/comics and actual employees within Nintendo. Mario is called Mario due to employees in the US calling him Mario.

SMB did not have the "design" until the second game came around, and the "Final" design did not stick in game until "Super Mario World" which attempted to mimic the art-style featured on the covers, and repeated in the "SML2:Six Golden Coins".

Donkey Kong ( The original Arcade ) had an actual animation/cartoon on air far before Super Mario Brothers came along and far before the "Super Mario Bros:Super Show". Even Koopa had a live-action series playing himself and was very believable.

Chris Pratt is a "Community" college drop-out, who worked as a stripper while weighting tables for the director/actress who "discovered" and cast him. He is a stereotypical-red-neck, red blooded American White-White Whashed actor. He a ginger with muscles and paraded around as American stereotype. I heard and saw the intro. Might as well make Mario shave his beard.

Mario design is so terrible. Trust me. It is like "Sonic" design, the eyes are tiny and small, and do not look anything like Sonic at all. Same with Mario. His head looks big and his eyes are tiny. WTFIT????

If anybody should play Mario voice it should be Captain Louie sound-a-like. This is just a grab-bag like "Wreck-It-Ralph", and is stupid. It is a movie made to suck money from people taking advantage of their naive-ness. Look at @$#@$@$ USSR it is messed up since religion took it over and the crown was over-taken. Look at Afganistan and Iraq.....no logical sense at all...money and time wasted. Peoples lives lost.

Their is no Pratt Mario. Do not purchase the movie, just wait until you could "get it". No sense in paying for this bs.

..............

All of that 3d could be instantaneously used in game. It is a waste of resources. In fact some videogames that are movies or movies that are videogames actually uses the same resources. So maybe just maybe we could get an actual game out of this because this is what this crap movie is.
A marketing for the game not released yet.

By the standards of the time the Jumpman design was okay I guess, but each redesign was a drastic improvement, I don't think the series would have stayed as popular as it was if they didn't change it. Same for Donkey Kong himself, I'd say.

You're right. I forgot that even after SMB there were some adjustments, but it really hasn't strayed too far from that point. Every change after Mario Bros. to Super Mario Bros. was minor in comparison. To put it another way, SMB's iteration of Mario has more in common with the film's depiction of Mario design-wise than MB's design did with SMB's.

I didn't know Donkey Kong had a show before Mario, that's interesting. I knew about the Donkey Kong Country one, and liked it as a kid, even now it's pretty funny at least for the memes.

I don't think Pratt's history factors into his acting ability much, actors come from all kinds of backgrounds. That sounds a bit off though, Pratt is a Christian, I don't think he'd be involved in stripping. The media hates him, I'm sure they'd be bringing that up at any opportunity if it was true. It's probably just some rumor.

The Sonic design was horrific. It was way, way worse. Even the final design for Sonic in the movie is further removed from the real Sonic's design than this Mario film's design is from the standard Mario look. I think Sonic's final design was tolerable but it still isn't accurate enough for my liking, whereas Mario is close enough (definitely a bit uncanny but I expected much worse).

Well, if they really want to lean into an accent then they could get Joe Pesci, he's already got a sort of higher voice too just like Mario is known for. He's an actual Italian so that'd placate the people complaining about race in the casting (which is ridiculous, it's just a cartoon). A Lou Albano soundalike might not have the range necessary for a feature film.

The film's graphics seem way too good to be used in a Switch game, I don't think they'd scale down well enough to be of use and probably weren't designed with that in mind. I do think they are using this to hype an upcoming game though, it would only make sense. It's been a while since Mario Odyssey released, so it's about time for another 3D Mario game of some kind.

FTLOgo-sh..... because we do not say -d. We need to have more respect for our selves.
You do not say "Jack-poo" , we say "Jack-______. I believe in freedom of expression but I also uphold the respect of minding my p's and q's.
Not just lying to peoples faces, or switching persona's. Like when I terrible job this co-worker ( despite having gold, bragging about his brown-stone houses, and his many children from various women, he would not shut-up about vagina, but he did not do it in that particular way, he would talk in a specific way that was just about terrible, like just without humanity or "taste". Another co-worker was voted "employee of the year ten times" but when nobody ( meaning supervisors was around ) was around he would use the N-word non-stop. Not in the negative way but the casual way. Point I am saying is that I try to mind my p's and q's, and enjoying doing so as it allows me to express myself. In fact religion wise ( Christianity variants ) we are advised not to use profanity nore claim things for the most part. So I am obsessive about that. It also denotes insanity to carry yourself in such mannerism. I like to mind my p's and q's because I feel so inhuman even the slightest bit. It does not make anybody a less of a person but this is real life and not the movies (or a childrens-book ). That being said I think like that on default.

If I could be Ned-Flanders and have a frumpy wife who needs pleasing and makeup herself-with nice fluffy hair, and run a business for left-handed people ( because I am left-handed ) I would make-it-so.

Are you flipping kidding me??? The film graphics is just as good as a videogame, if not more or less the same. You have to be blind to even say that one. Movies have been doing this "oh look forget that 3d from PSX/Saturn box-arts or the flying Owl from "Labyrinth", whatever we make now is cannon for 3d.

Take "Pokemon" which has always had great 3d imagery of the pokemon that matches the animation even more or less. The movie "Detective Pikachu" attempting to make you feel depressed with all the off designs of the pokemon. Look at poor Charizard. They make it look like a ficitonal dragon rather then the pokemon which has more in common with Licking-Tongue, and should have a velvety skin at least, with bumped-mapped skin. Nope, They made him with teeth and anger and rage like something that is not even real enough. Even take pikachu...okay it is a mouse but the fur has a certain texture, not just rip fur from a possible mouse. The point I am trying to make is that they just can not respect the actual design. You look at Sonic in all the videogames and all the 3d creations of him. They give him respect. They could have made the Pokemon look like "Clause" where they animated them and then used 3d to make idealistic shadows and shading. But nope, we had to have a design that made no sense and was even worst then "Roger Rabbit".

You look at the Mario movie, it is just a game where Mario head is too big, and or his eyes are too small. I respect the 1990's "Super Mario Bros" movie. Why?
1. It has it's own typefont,
2. It has it's own MCU type ( but all movies do that Take "Escaflowne" )
3. They mixed DK into it somehow and combined Daisy into Toadstool.
4. They even had the King.
5. Everybody was happy they got rid of Koopa,
6. For a kid it was beautiful, and even as an adult I could still appreciate it.
7. They had the Flying-top( as a support Crane Bowser dropped in ), Yoshi, koopa-cousins ( which is what they are ), Boom-Boom Room was good, Jump-Shoes ( which does not get appreciated until the "Super Mario RPG" game ), Super-Mushroom ( that got big instead of making you big ), Even
dropped in a line for the Super-Scope ( I mean omgsh ) and added some Shy-guy references in costumes and characters.

The 1990's Mario Movie was like "Alice in WonderLand" the tv series ( based off the live-action Alice ), and was fantastic.

..................

This is a game. They did not make a world, they made the ground-printing for a game. All of it is a game. Have you seen "Final Fantasy 12" on the PS2? The same thing basically.

But what kills this movie.
1. Crappy writing for crappy actors
2. Making references that are only recent, like captain toad.

I guarantee you they are going to be no suprise how this movie end and like "Wreck It Ralph" or "Sonic AKA Jim-Carry movie" people will say "It was a kids movie you know like "Winnie-the-Poo". You know what they are right, and absolutely correct

..............................

They are going to make a game because it would be a waste of assets not to.

now "Super Mario Bros Z" the flash animation series is probably way more accurate then anything Hollywood ( or current Nintendo ) would ever do.

...............................

About DK. Nintendo did no redesign DK. Rare did. In fact they wanted DK to take place in "Nintendo land" but Nintendo prefer to take place in it's own world.

Rare could have made DK into his original design and can the whole "Startrek Next Generation" bs, and keep DK ( Cranky ) and Jr. ( Current DK ) and scrap all the other characters and even have Mario ( Jump-man ) as the same character.

By logic DK ( current ) takes place in a time-line when Mario is elderly or possible dead and not the Smash-Bros lies we have been fed.

I think you need to play the Switch again, its graphical capabilities are far outdated. Its graphics are hardly better than PS3 tier graphics (which came out in 2006). Switch is weaker than a PS4 and PS4 Pro, not to mention PS5 or especially PC. If they made a game with the graphical fidelity of the Mario film it would need to at least be a PS5 game. Maybe PS4 Pro could run a choppy version.

The Pokemon movie had atrocious designs, but some were okay. Pikachu himself wasn't too bad. Jigglypuff was a disgrace, not cute at all. Most were just awful. They weren't faithful enough to the game, in fact it wasn't just the Pokemon but the main character too. They randomly changed Tim, the human, to black too. I think Mario is much more faithful so far (visually, not sound-wise). Things won't ever be perfect.

I watched the live action Mario film a hundred times, I think it was good and is very underrated. I'm 99% certain there was zero reference to Donkey Kong anywhere though. What are you talking about specifically?

It's too early to say the writing and references aren't good, we only got one trailer, and it didn't really show much honestly. Super Mario Bros Z had incredible animation and choreography, but I don't remember any story elements, it wasn't very well written even by fanfic standards.

Yes, Rare did DK's redesign but it was supervised by Mitanoto himself so it's an official Nintendo design. In fact, the iconic tie DK wears actually predates DKC, Miyamoto added it to his design in DK '94 for the Game Boy.

IRHP are you kidding me. Have you not seen the last couple of Mario games made already? Even "Fallout 3" could run on switch and that would be able to do what this movie is clearly doing. Yes it would have to be properly programmed like "Metroid Dread", but honestly saying "blah blah blah Nintnedo hardware" nowadays is kind of dated. It is not the N64 days. "Final Fantasy 12" was on the PS2, now imagine that today , with no load-times, low-level programming, no CD-rom, and constantly SSD loading. Trust me it can do it, yes I will admit they will have to use many graphical tricks as with SMO. Yeah I play the switch and it is beautiful on my desktop.

.........

" They randomly changed Tim?, the human, to black too?"

What do you mean by that? You mean the flash-back that was a different actor, and honestly the adult could actually make a better Morty, then the live-action-fan movie somebody made with the actor from BTTF.

If your talking about person with African-American related to, I honestly did not notice it all. Even Reggie look like he could be Italian or Dominican/Puerto-Rico but in reality his family ( his military general mom and dad ) was from Haiti. The actor could even Jewish for all I care as with Fran from the "Nanny" was to actually play an Italian woman but they forced changed it to match her heritage ( Jewish ) along with the story-line.

I mean honestly the actor would make a better Morty then the guy who looks like an over-grown Blues-Clues wanna-be.

What is it? You have a problem with white guys with curly hair?

The movie did not suck because of the actors, the movie sucked because your watching a CGI film where the monsters did not look the way they are from the game and had added features.
....

The reference I am making is how Koopa, accidentally turned the Marios competitor into an ape. I could actually see that mutation advancing further and the "Scapellies"

https://www.mariowiki.com/Anthony_Scapelli

They could have instantly made a sequel using this entire scenario. Make it like "ape-escape" where Scapelli while now a Cimpanzee is attempting to pull a planet of the Apes just to make him equal to humans. Then the film would end with him breaking out of jail and kidnapping Mario's Girlfriend ( Pauline ) and climbing a construnction site. That is how it should have ended in the original movie. In fact just to hint that, they could have had Scapelli drulling all over Maro's girlfriend.

That movie is so badarse..............dammit I miss it all. ................That is it, they just should have made a direct to video sequel...

Then we have the shy-guys club and or cult in the real-world but when some police attempts to remove the mask, they would reply "Hey man covid" or remove the mask to reveal a lizard, an ape, and even a bird. Then the only human ( also tall ) would be like "so your all animal creatures" and be like "okay your my bros still". Everybody speaks English, or some kind of accent.

............

Nope the writing is garbage, hey already to start to use references and hints most likely from the comics or what people realize. It is like Lafu ( whatever ) from "Beauty and the Beast". The Gay-Toad joke was done already. We do not need it again. In fact Danny-Krillon-Jerrie-Divito should have played the toad because whoever is playing him already ruined it for me.

Again Bowser in a fire-cloud ( get that a fire-cloud ) on ice marching against obvious British Penguins throwing ice-balls just seems lame enough since all animals are neutral in the Mario universe. Also what hurts it even more is how they have a "ice-land" in the Mario series, so why not use it and not make up another ice-land or whatever palace.

It is one big fanfiction as with the Sonic films. Watch Tails just waltz in and randomly comes to love and admire Sonic, and even brings the plane along at some point.

.................

That is Rare design.

Shigeru Miyamoto made DK, design, and game ( NOTE: Nintendo did not program the game or most of the first gen games until the NES era ), idea/concept. He also mapped/drafted out various points of the worlds he made himself. Pin-pointing where each block would appear on screen.

The Tie was a new concept from Rare DKC game.

DK in the Gameboy game have a "DK" on his tie to stand-out from the other DK. Why? Because DK from the DKC is the original Jr. and DK from the Gameboy ( the original DK ) is the true DK. This is why you see a Tie in future installments of the game to differ from Rareware DK and Nintendo DK.

In fact just to keep things on the straight and narrow. Even the artwork has little or nothing to do with DKC. DKC was basically a handout to Rare from Nintendo ( like a father allow a strange-man to "go-out" with his daughter ) because of the close relationship rare had with Nintendo..........which was ruined by the buy-out.

...............

Now it is like fake-Kirby..... where the Kirby we are seeing is not the true KBDLand1-3 but Nintendo tapping at Kirby and milking it since the NES game. Again Kirby is owned by HAL ( story-Wise ) what we see with Kirby being done with Nintendo is their own relationship of the series itself.

You're definitely overestimating the power of the Switch, or underestimating the CGI in the Mario film. Switch is strong by Nintendo's standards (at least for a portable system) but it's due for a successor soon. I'd be surprised if one doesn't get announced soon, like a Super Nintendo Switch or something. There's been rumors for a while and launching it alongside the new Zelda would make sense.

Maybe you just didn't know about the Detective Pikachu video game (I'll include some images for comparison). I didn't even mention "white guys with curly hair". I'm just saying Detective Pikachu wasn't faithful to the source material, casting decisions were poor (they changed Detective Pikachu's voice actor too). I still liked the movie well enough, by the way, none of that ruined the film completely.
Spoiler.

Hm, I think the Scapelli chimpanzee thing was just coincidental rather than a Donkey Kong reference, since DK is an ape. I agree about a sequel though, it always bothered me how the old Mario film left off on a cliffhanger.

No, the tie was Miyamoto's idea:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donkey_Kong_(character)
The character's appearance was redesigned for the Super NES in 1994 by former Rare character artist Kevin Bayliss with supervision from Miyamoto, who suggested giving Donkey Kong a red tie.
I don't think Kirby has changed in any significant way. Technically, he wasn't pink originally (which is why he has a monochrome color variant in Super Smash Bros), but otherwise I think he's basically the same as he's ever been.

I was afraid they'd do something like this. Peach is an entirely different character now. I guess her not being a badass was "problematic" or whatever. Cringe.

Otherwise, it's still looking pretty good. Some of the comedy is generic and safe, but that Bowser/Luigi scene was really good. The Rainbow Road looked cool too.
