Lost Aether

First off, this will be a Free Play RPG, with possibly a few controls by myself to help advance the story/prevent this from crashing too soon.
Plot - The worlds of Aether existed in peace, watched over by several gods that kept balance in the world and granted the people of the world many abilities such as magic. It remained this way for ages, however one day everything had changed, the gods had seemingly disappeared from this world. Magic that once flourished now existed in only few forms. Even worse for the world, most new life has stopped appearing; those that die remain trapped in the world, instead of passing on and continuing the cycles of life.
The people don't know the reasons why this had happened. Some blame the advent of technology which had rapidly grew over the last century, led and used extensively by the Steel Alliance armies. Others blame the overuse of magic in olden days, thinking it an illness that led to the gods eventual demise. Many sides have taken up arms to remove the problems of the world as they see it; hoping to reshape the world based on the values they share. Between the sides large wars have begun, throwing much of the world into even further chaos.

Factions / Info
True Arcana - An ancient organization that has long remained hidden, rising up in the chaos with plans to recreate the world with them as its gods. They battle with their own strengths and magical relics uneffected by the waning magical powers in the world. They wish to prevent the revival of the old gods and act to gather spiritual might for themselves, so that they can in essence create a new god ruled by them to watch over the world. Its members tend to avoid conflict, acting only when it is needed or when most beneficial to them.
Spirit Callers - A recently formed group containing thousands, most of them members of races and countries that had fallen due to the waning mana in the world. Their ultimate goal is to revive the gods, thus restoring magic and balance in the world, however they face several problems due to the vast wars across the world. Despite any efforts they make to avoid combat, their overall size and influence draws others into battle with them.
Steel Alliance - A gigantic army made of various countries that have taken up the ideal that technology will bring about a new world. They spread the message that through abandoning magic the gods will be able to revive themselves and restore the world to balance. Overall their leaders care little about the state of the world caused by the loss of the gods, the human race continuing strong while others weaken. They merely use it as an excuse to spread war and conquer others, to spread technology and weaken magic, all while increasing their armies strengths. The overall alliance between countries is weak, with many small battles occuring amongst its members.
Silver Guardians - A small army, supported by many weaker countries that are in danger of being destroyed by the advances of the Steel Alliance. They don't feel that the gods have died due to the use of magic or the growth of technology, but instead that they have simply turned their heads to the world due to the evils that have been brought about by the people of the world. They seek to protect the good of the world while rooting out the evil to restore balance to the world. They use a combination of magic and technology to make up for their low numbers.
Neutral - ...Follow your own path, unhindered by the burdens brought about by the many factions dividing the world. ...No real restrictions here as far as technology/magic goes, since really it can fit with any path if needed.
Magic: A force that has long existed, assisting the people of Aether to live their lives. Cast by drawing in and manipulating spirit, it has been reduced to few forms with the disappearance of the gods, and with them the spiritual energy that flowed through the earth. Without the energy, those who use magic must use energy from elsewhere, either from items or creatures of magical origins, or by using their own spirits, harming themselves in the process.
Technology: A force growing greatly over the past several years, with its supporters expecting it to accomplish great things in the future. Can do many things within physical constraints; the more complicated technologies all far larger than others. As a whole, the level of technology for this game is at best, what could be expected from the early stages of the industrial revolution.

You can use as many characters as you want for this. If you plan on using a character only once or twice, you don't have to make a sign up for them, so focus on characters you plan to use constantly for now.
And last thing; if you want any more information on anything just ask. This will start up in probably a few days, or whenever I get something written up to start.
