In the world of Pokemon, many young people aspired to find their place in the world through way of relationships with Pokemon and people alike. Whether it be by becoming a great Breeder and being able to not only raise prize winning Pokemon, but to also care for those not owned by them and push the evelope of Pokemon care to new and previously unknown levels. Some would rather take a more hands off approach, becoming critically accalimed Pokemon researchers, studying the habits and lifestyles of the mysterious Pokemon that fill our daily lives, discovering new aspects, abilities, and wonderous information that could shape how future generation will live and prosper.
Young Agro, however, like many his age wanted nothing more then to become one of the most fun and adventurous of these professions, the Pokemon trainer! Raising their Pokemon to fight and battle, to rise above all challenges and to live only to battle the next opponent, never being satisfied are thinking he is done just because of a won title or badge. And today, this day, was the day Agro would meet his very first Pokemon companion.
After studying hard the summer monthes had finally arrived, and his mother had finally decided to allow her boy to follow his dream, at least, thus far, for the summer. She was stern and believed that studies were important, but did not want to cloud the dreams of her son, talking to Prof. Elm, neighbor and acclaimed Pokemon Professor who lived in the small, homely community of New Bark Town, and he seemed more then eager to allow young Agro a very special Pokemon, one of three he had recently received from the Hoenn region, which he had less then ample time to raise himself, what with all his workload.
Agro left his home and went to Prof. Elm's lab, as told by his mother that Prof. Elm had an errand he would like Agro to run. Not thinking much about it, Agro agreed and now found himself in the very large and sterile lab.
"Agro, my boy! I am glad you came! I need you to go pick up a parcel from Mr. Okemon's home, its not hard to find, its just north of Cherrygrove City, i am sure you know where that is, right boy?"
Agro noded, of course he knew where it was, he had of course been there before, much to his mother's chagrin, so worried about all the tall grass left between the pathes, it was little wonder, she would always say, that he didn't come back with a Sentret ot Zigzagoon latched onto his hind quarters.
"Now, of course I wouldn't want you to run such an errand without a little protection, not to mention the lecturing your mother would give me if I did . . . so, I have a special surprise for you," Prof. Elm suddenly grinned a rather wide smile as he moved slightly to the side, revealing a small, red Pokemon with a tiny fire emblem over it's button hatch. "This is a special Pokemon, very rare in this region too, I doubt you'll see any of these anywhere else in the entire Jhoto region! Go on! Take it!"
Agro received Torchic!
Torchic LV: Low
Health: Good
Attack: Better
Defense: Good
Sp. Attack: Better
Sp. Defense: Good
Speed: Good
Ability: Blaze (In a pinch, Torchic's fire attacks increase in power!)
Demeanor: Friendly
Moveset:
Scratch: A basic attack utilizing a Pokemon's claws or talons, is quick and accurate but rather weak.
Growl: An intimidating growl that can make an enemy lose focus, lowering Attack.
At this point Agro had quite a few choices he could pick from. he could try and talk with Prof. Elm or leave his home, and enter his own home or the home of Prof. Elm himself. He could also look for someone to talk to in town, to simply go off on his adventure, heading West to Route 29 toward Cherrygrove.
He also had to decide if he wanted to give his Torchic a nickname?
Also, whether he wanted to keep his Pokemon in its Pokeball or have it walk with him.

Default: Torchic will not have a nickname.
Default: Torchic is now walking freely with you.
Keeping a Pokemon out of its Pokeball with you:
Although this can sometimes be dangerous with Pokemon that you have just acquired or ones who do not like you, it is also the fastest way for a Pokemon to trust you and to create a friendship with them. At the same time, pokemon not kept in Pokeballs are contantly in play, and therefore have an opporunity to not only level and evolve faster, but can also watch other Pokemon work and possibly gain new moves or 'Actions' (actions will be explained later).
Another bonus is sometimes having Pokemon outside of your Pokeball can open and unlock new challenges, such as your Pokemon noticing something you don't or vice-versa something noticing your Pokemon if it is rare or is needed for an event. At the same time, there is negatives to having a Pokemon out, for one it must eat and sleep as often as you do, unless you make constant trips to the Pokemon Center. They can also be effected by bad weather conditions or misplaced attacks or attacks that hit the entire area (like a massive Sandstorm). Also, Pokemon who do not have a liking of you can try and run away or disobey you, slowing you down in crucial moments. Pokemon who are new can be timid at first, and if startled while not in their Pokemon, can try and run away.
At the moment, Torchic is already quite tame toward people and has an immediate liking of you.
Agro enters his home, to meet with his Mother, who is currently having trouble with a lighter, flicking and flicking it as she tries to light the fireplace to allow some heat to fill the room. Finally she notices you, and your Torchic.
"So you finilly got a Pokemon of your own. You know i still think your studies should come first, but since it is summer break i see no reason to not allow you to divulge in your dream, at least for the next couple monthes . . . who knows, depending on how successful you are, maybe we can discuss the possibility of you being able to continue . . .as long as your grades stay high."
She flicks the lighter again,b ut no avail, when she finally just looks at you and says, "your Torchis is a fire Pokemon right? Can it light this fireplace for me?"
Pokemon can do special 'Actions'!
Some Pokemon can perform special actiosn that can be used from time to time to complete events or help with certain chores! Actions cannot be used in battle, but they also waste no energy, so a Pokemon can do them as long as he is not incapacitated for some reason!
Torchic knows the 'Action' "Spark Fire"!
"Spark Fire" allows Torchic to create small embers to light flammible objects on fire. The embers, though, are too weak to cause any damage by themselves though, and Torchic will refuse to use the Action if it will directly harm anyone, such as lighting a tree on fire to burn down a forest.
