With the rising threat of the Velazian empire, Ronae has called for anyone who is willing to assist in the nation's defense. You have answered the call, and have gone to receive training in your new life in the military.

You arrive at Camp Oasis, the largest military training camp in the nation. There seem to be a lot of new recruits here too, since like you, most aren't dressed in military attire. A woman stands up, dressed in brown robes.

"Listen up. New recruits, head over to the stage over there and take a seat. You will be instructed on what to do from there."

She vanishes, and everyone starts heading over there. You find a seat near the middle.

The woman reappears on stage, and starts to speak after everyone has taken a seat and quieted down.

"Greeting new recruits, and welcome to Camp Oasis. I am Recruiting Officer Ela Sunas. As each of you know, the Velazian empire has been on the move on this continent and on the other, and so we have been calling for people to help in the defense. Each of you will be tested in four excercises to see what you are best suited for, and then given assignment options out of what you qualify for. Possible assignments include various defense assignments, assignment to a raiding party, outland patrols or a special Offensive assignment, only to be discussed if you qualify.

Desert life is hard as you know, so each of you will be given equipment to combat fatigue on the battlefield. You will each be fitted for uniform and given your equipment before you begin the training, and instructed in all of its use, then you will begin the training excercises. After each excercised you will be given a grading of A, B, C, D or F. Each excercise you pass with at least a D grade will give you more assignment options. The excercises will not take a long time to complete. That is all for now. Dismissed."

A woman walks up your general seating area.

"Hello, I am here to get you your equipment. Follow me." She points to a bunch of you and motions for you to follow, and walks off to a large circular building, and opens the door.

You can see rows and rows of shelves, with various equipment, as well as bars holding various robes, dresses, and other clothing.

"Greetings, I am equipment officer Sally Hiara. I will give each of you your standard equipment. Every person in our military has seven standard pieces of equipment. Kara!" A girl comes over. "Fetch the equipment." Kara nods and runs to some shelves, and gathers some equipment. She comes back a minute later.

She holds up A robe, an amulet, a mask, a whistle, a wand, boots and bracers.

-The standard brown Robe: Comes with a belt for holding pouches or weapon sheathes. It matches the color of Sand in order for some camoflauge at distances to the enemy.

-The insignia amulet: Shows your rank, and also is enchanted with a cooling spell in order to reduce fatigue in battle.

-The mask you get consists of tinted face goggles, earmuffs, a mouth and nose piece. This is designed to protect your face in a sandstorm, and the goggles can also be seperated from the device in order to see when the sun is particually bright.

-The whistle, when blown normally is just used to call to others if assisted. However, if you blow on it, while spending a little bit of will power it can be used to deafen enemies.

-The wand is a very useful device. It's used as a magical extension, able to enhance the effects of spells, or assist you by taking some of the strain off of it. Using the wand creates strain on the wand, and after so much use, it becomes useless for a day. It also creates a light which can be set to dim, bright or blinding. U=

-The boots enhance your natural agility some, and also allow you to keep balance and footing when sand gets deep or you fall into quicksand.

-The bracers enhance you natural strength some, and also can be hardened through the use of magic in order to block weapons with. Try not to rely on that though, since it only lasts as long as you concentrate on it, although it can be done without interefering with whatever you were doing.

Now that you know what each does, you will be fitted." says Sally.

That process takes about 20 minutes, and you get all of your equipment. You are instructed to go to the training area. You arrive there, to find the other groups there as well, talking among themselves, when someone shouts for quiet.

"Greetings. We now begin your training. You have all been fitted with your equipment. Your first excercise will be a simple test of skills. You have 5 rounds to deal as much damage as you wish against your opponent, while the other will be allowed to do anything besides do any direct attack against you to defend themselves. After the time ends, you switch and are on the defense and must do anything in your arsenal to prevent them from dealing damage. You will be scored on your overall performance in both rounds, as a whole. Pair up, decide who gets offense and who gets defense, and begin when I blow the whistle."

People start to pair up, and soon there's only one person near you unpaired. She says "I guess we're fighting. I'm Taya. You can have choice of offense or defense. Oh, what's your name?

--------
For purposes of training, you get 1 action for each of the rounds, you may use overheat as a free action. Remember your equipment, you have full access to it.

If she hits an illusion from Dancing Flames when on the Defense does that count as attacking? Cause that'd be my best defensive action.

"My name's Enya. I'll be on the offense first."

Nope, only direct attacking is not allowed when on the defense.

She nods. You hear the call of the whistle.

Round 1
What's your action?

Enya casts Overheat, then focuses Explosion through the wand. Explosion deals 26 damage.

Taya casts Breeze. Taya is healed for 25hp.

Enya: W: 30/45
Taya: H: 39/40 W: 40/50

Attack... Not like I'll get much done with explosion.

Not overall, but you're scored on Offense for this part, whether or not you actually kill them.

Enya punches Taya, who easily dodges.

Taya casts wind wall. A wall of Wind is created in between the two, sending Enya flying backwards.

Enya: W: 20/45
Taya: H: 39/40 W: 30/50

Summing it up to speed things up a bit.

Round 3 and 4 you deal 18 damage each, which she heals. Round 5, you can't make it through the wind wall.

Now, you two are healed and the positions reversed.

You get first move since you're faster

Lets finish this in one turn- Dancing Flames, 5WP to blind, Heal, Heal, Heal.

Enya casts Dancing Flames. 3 images are created.
Taya casts Gust of Wind. Enya is unaffected.

Enya casts Sandstorm. Taya is blinded.
Taya attacks with a spear. Taya misses.

Enya casts heal.
Taya attacks with a spear. Taya strikes an image and takes damage.

Enya casts heal.
Taya attacks with a spear. Taya strikes an image and takes damage.

Enya casts heal.
Taya attacks with a spear. Taya hits and deals 14 damage.

The whistle blows, calling for a stop. You will now each be scored. A few people walk around the arenas, handing out scores.

You get yours and look at it. "A"

You catch a glance at Enya's. "C"

"And now for the next excercise. We'll have to locate to a new area for this one." Sally waves her hand and you all are teleported to a hill overlooking an open area with several small forts. Fort is a generous term, basically being four wooden outer and inner walls with a flag in center. The walls have an opening on two ends, both inside and out. There are two guards at each opening and you can see two guards patrolling the outside area, the inside area and two stationed by the flag.

"Each of you will have 10 rounds, on your own to infiltrate to the center of a fort and take the flag. This excercise will test your tactical thinking. Choose your opening position."

----
In one round you can make an attack and move, covering one side of the outerfort (making it four rounds to circle it outside) two sides in the innerfort (two rounds to circle inside) and of course the furtherst inside fort is just the guards and a flag.

Choose your starting area and begin. North and southwall have an entrance, but two guards by it. You can start outside their range, but waste a round to get to them, although you can still cast spells at that range.

I'll start in the south near the gate and in the range of the guards. I will start by casting Dancing Flames and then moving towards the gate.

Round 1.
H: 40/40
F: 15/15
W: 45/45

They call for you to halt. When you cast Dancing Flames, they rush to attack, armed with spears.

Guard 1 attacks with spear. Guard 1 strikes an image. Guard 1 is defeated.

Guard 2 attacks with spear. Guard 2 strikes an image. Guard 2 is defeated.

Round 1 end.
H: 40/40
F: 15/15
W: 35/45

You make it inside the gate. There's no entrance to the inner part on this side. There's two guards in the area, who haven't noticed you. You can circle around to either side, but you'll have to go past them either way.

Recast Dancing Flames and rush the one to the right.

You recast Dancing flames and rush to the right. The guard stabs at you, but hits an image, and is defeated. The other guard runs at you, and throws his spear, hitting an image, not triggering damage to himself due to damage. He draws a sword and runs after you.

The guards at the entrance start to advance on you.

Round 2 end

H: 40/40
F: 15/15
W: 25/45
2 images left

How about... the same move I've been doing the entire time? Oh, and move through the entrance if it seems possible.

You recast it again, this time taking three attacks. The swordwielder actually hitting you instead of an image. The two spear guards die. You can choose to lower the damage with FP or take the full 25 damage, you enter the inner part, guard following, to face the people with spears inside, ready themselves.

Round 3 end.

H: 40/40
F: 15/15
W: 15/45

I'll choose to take 11 damage this turn. 10 from the attack, and 1 from the wand so that I can cast Dancing Flames Again.

Edit: err... for the half cost effect.

You complete the excercise, earning an A.

Sally speaks up "And now for the third excercise, you shal--" She stops speaking when a messanger walks up to her and whispers something to her. You can see her eyes go wide open.

"Well... we're out of time. I just have been told that the Velazians have troops massed and will attack us very soon. This is a training facility, not a military camp so we don't have a lot of experienced soldiers. They will buy you time to teleport you to the nearest military camp, where you will explain the situation and receive further instructions from them. Any of you that wish to assist in defense, please feel free to take out any Velazian troops you encounter. Now go to the two marble columns over there." She points, then waves her hand and vanishes.

Less than 10 seconds later, the recruits break out into a mad dash for the columns, you following them, but managing to get safely out of the crowd. You hear a roar from above you, and look upwards to see two Soldiers riding reptilian creatures you know as Drakes. These Drakes are blue in color, which you know to be the native color for dragon creatures of the Desert. The drakes fly overhead, landing in front of the group. Three of the recruits stand forward, as the drakes inhale, and breathe out a streak of lightning. The three recruits hold their hands up, and mutter something. A blue barrier appears in front of them, deflecting the lightning bolts away from the group.

You could take this time to cast a spell if you want.

Wand(Power Boost Effect) + Overheat + Explosion on a dragon/rider... try to hit multiple enemies with the radius if possible.
