Here's whats available within the guild. You can be in the same guild as kb if you wish, although he's on a mission right now.

Travel: Travel from the guild mage, to do whatever. There's a lot of ruins, and dungeons and other such things built by odd mages.
Mission: Do a job given by the guild for money.
Shops: Buy equipment
Library: Pay money to advance your spell knowledge.
Test: Pass a test given by the mage guild in order to advance within the ranks. Unlocks more activities within the guild.

You enter the taskmaster's office. The office is a plain room with a desk. There seems to be no files, papers or anything, just an old man in a sort of pirate's hat (without the emblem though) and a long beard.

"Hello fellow mage" he says. "I am taskmaster Albikke. I have work for you if you need money."

He holds up his hand, which begins to glow.

"Low level guild member, near expert in elemental magic, proficient in Solar, Dawn, dusk and heaven magic.

Let's see over in the Outlands, a small village called Dounil, the towns resident mage has predicted that a group of monsters primarily orcs and goblins are getting ready to raid the city. Their mage is particually adept at anything besides divination and healing so they asked us to send a mage to set up some defenses. We're sending another mage over there for wards and such, but if you wish you can lend your assistance and set up some elemental spells to aid the town, perhaps a chasm or something to stop charges (bridges can always be built), or help with the fight. We'll pay you 500gp for the job and i'm sure they'll pay you extra if you kill a few orcs.

Want the job?"

"Alright. Dounil is a week away, so it'll be hard to get to it on foot."

You can leave when you wish too, although it needs to be done soon. If you wish you can talk to Asura, who teleports those who need to travel."

Santhreas: Dounil, but I don't have that kind of cash, and I was gonna buy something when I got back with the money. I guess I'll just walk... unless you'd be willing to lend me 200 gold... and give me a 100 gold discount on the trip.

"Ok. You owe me for this though."

You get teleported there. The city is a small village, no walls or anything. There's a crowd of people wielding spears and pitchforks and such, talking to two people dressed in robes. You can see a few people patrolling about 100 yards or so past the borders of the tower on all sides. The area is primarily grassy, although there's a huge portion of dirtlands for farming outside the village to the north and north east, a river running near it and a small wooded area to the west and south west.

What now?

You walk up to them. One of them is a short man in blue robes, brown hair, blue eyes with a silver pendant around his neck, sort of young. The other one is an older man, graying hair, green eyes, carrying a staff. His robes are red.

They're talking to each other quietly and haven't noticed you yet. What do you want to say?

I was sent to help out with defending the town. What should I do? I've got several Elemental spells that might be useful.

The younger one speaks: "Ah welcome, always glad to have assistance. It's a pretty large force coming so we need to be able to stop their charge to get some time to shoot a lot of them down with the townsfolk's bows and our spells. If you could create some sort of elemental Barrier on the north side and the east side (that's where our diviner friend here predicted they'd come) outside of town, that would be great."

The old man nods at this. "We have till tommorow around noon. So it would be great if you could get out there sometime today."

I'll go out and cast Tremor Split on areas north and east well within bowshot of the town. I'll make it a 10-foot wide, 20-foot deep chasm. Then I'll come back and ask what they think, and tell them I can stay around and help out during the battle.
