Reel has more uses than that... although most of them are for out of battle. In battle its basically useless unless you want to get more EXP without ending the fight or something.

You attack Marrus for 30 damage.
Lothe attacks for 10 damage.
Marrus uses Anchor on Lothe. Deals 30 damage.
Lothe uses Anchor. Deals 30 damage.

You head to the docks with Karna and Lothe and then look for the boat.

Lothe: There it is.

He points to a somewhat small wooden fishing boat. It looks like it could barely fit 4 people in it.

Karna: Thats it? Are you sure that we could get to the main island in this? It looks like a big enough wave would flip this thing.

Lothe: Oh, it would. But today we should be fine, its a sunny day and theres not much of a breeze.

Marrus: Hey! Wait Up!

Lothe: Eh? Dad? Something wrong?

Marrus: I just don't want you running off unprepared. Here, take this.

He hands you a pouch, inside is 100gp and some herbs.

You all get into the boat, it won't be able to travel too far, so here are the closest islands you can get to on it.

Tolas: One of the largest islands in all of Latos, has more trade going to it, and is overall more advanced. Currently has some rebels in South Tolas trying to overthrow the country.
Nohil: Karna's home island. A small island barely more advanced than the one you're on.
