Sheba casts Reveal.

You can now clearly see everything ahead of you through the grass for some distance. There is a camp of perhaps two to three hundred people. On the bank of the Glass River to the west, your right, there are perhaps forty river barges. They do not appear to be loaded. The men in camp are mostly practicing maneuvers, cleaning their armor, sharpening their weapons, doing general military camp things. Nobody notices you.

What do you want to do?

Keep trying to get closer while hiding still.

You close about half the distance. Jayra whispers to you. You can barely hear her.

Jayra: I think if you go in any closer, they'll notice you... I might be able to go farther, but even that might be risky... what are we doing this far in anyway? I'm getting worried...

Could I use Mind Read on any of the others at this range to see what they are doing? Either way, I'll write down what I've learned. Then I'll try and get out without being seen.

Yes, you could use Mind Read. However, I don't know how much you would discern that you can't by just looking-- after all, as I said most of them are doing pretty specific things, and seem fairly engrossed in doing them.

You write down what you've learned (9 uses left). Wanna cast Mind Read on someone, or head back?

Eh, head back, sneaking past everyone if possible.

You stay low and make your way out of the camp safely. After you're quite a distance away, you stand up and walk. You return to the boat and row back. When you return, Jayra grabs a rope and nimbly leaps to the dock, then proceeding to tie up the boat and give you a hand up. You both return to the Outpost. You head upstairs and give your report to Risali. She scans it for a bit, looking concerned.

Risali: Hm... that's bad, although we thought it could have been worse. Okay. Our garrison here is about a hundred strong. Now Chandury still hasn't quite declared war on us, but that's bound to change any day now. However, for now we ought to have enough time to get some reinforcements... physically. Teleportation isn't bad on a small scale, but it is tiring for the 'porters, so transportation en masse is best done on foot, boat, or horse. Toblish raids have been increasing, and we're not the only river town they seem to be preparing assaults against... otherwise I would ask for more troops. However, I think another hundred should be enough, especially since we have the Glass River between us and the Chands. Hm... why don't you go back to Xanton-- we'll 'port you, no problem-- and give them the news? Then you can come up with the reinforcements. I imagine they'll put you on boats, it's much faster than walking. I'll put out sentries, prepare defenses, all that. If they attack before you can arrive, we'll hold them off as long as possible. Otherwise we'll be that much stronger.

She pauses for a bit, then continues.

Risali: Ah... we don't have any resident Diviners here except for myself. I'm a Scryer, actually. If you want someone else to help us out on that particular front, you can ask for a Diviner as well as the other reinforcements. Generally though, I'd say we could use... oh, twenty healers, fifty slingers, and thirty apprentices. Split up the slingers and apprentices into battalions-- two of each-- and then distribute the healers into each one. It would be a good idea to have someone more experienced to command each battalion-- archers for the slingers, mages for the apprentices. Perhaps even a cleric or two to help out. Okay then... we'll 'port you on back, unless there's anything else you feel is urgent?
