I know it was established by Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite, as a way of...trying to give back to the world for how rich it had made him? Or to atone for all the deaths dynamite had caused, maybe? I don't remember that part. The former sounds a little too Carnegie-------the latter, a little too Winchester.

I can name a few Nobel guys. Mostly Peace Prize winners. Obama was in there, and the Dalai Lama. Gorbachev. Liu Xiaobo, the Chinese democracy advocate who died in prison a few years back. I don't know---------Mandela, I assume? And then I seem to recall Gabriel Garcia Marquez had one for Literature, but I might be mistaken.

I only know one off the top of my head, Obama. They must not be worth much after that, just giving them away.

The categories are physics, chemistry, literature, physiology/medicine, economics, & peace.
Marie & Pierre Curie and Linus Pauling technically make 5 recipients; Marie & Linus each won in 2 different fields.
