what did you answer to the question, “what do you want to be when you grow up?”
How do you feel about your childhood answer now?
I wanted to be an astronaut, a hairdresser and a teacher. Maybe not all at the same time.
I'm still interested in space and would love to see Earth from orbit. Not interested in hairdressing (and not sure now why that was something I answered), and my current work allows me to teach.

When I was really little, I said "scientist", but back then I thought a scientist just poured things back & forth in beakers.
By middle school, I had pretty well settled on what I wanted to do, & I've done all those things (& still do them).
And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

...I mean, when I was really little, I wanted to be a styracosaurus.
I guess I wanted to do some kind of hero crap-----------I remember wanting to be a copper, a fireman, an army guy, a ghostbuster (before I realised that wasn't really an option). I made it as far as being an Eagle scout and camp counselor; then I just became a grocery clerk, like you do.

I wanted to be an astronaut. I was pretty into astronomy. Eventually I sorta gave up astronaut as unrealistic, because so few people get to be an astronaut.
Further along I got to not really being keen on the idea anyway. Space is super inhospitable. Also; the things that are in space are beautiful and wondrous, but the actual space between those things is terrifyingly, incomprehensibly vast and I don't like the idea of how easy it would be to go off course and be adrift forever. Odds are you'd never even crash into anything, I think.
